So the Kid wanted to get her ears pierced, so I told her that if we were going to do that, it had to be a professional - none of this mall piercing stuff. She was nervous, so I told her that I'd get my nostril pierced so she could see how it worked first. We ended up at Revolution because i work at Purdue and they said they were fine with doing piercings for teenagers. It's a small shop, so we had to wait a bit while Pirate, the piercer, worked on a couple of college girls who wanted piercings. by the way, ladies -- you tip your piercer. It's customary. If they do a good job, $10 per piercing is normal, unless you're getting a complex piercing. Don't be rude. Anyway, so once the flock of co-eds was gone, we had our turn. I had a look at the autoclave and generally reviewed their sanitation steps. I'm not in the business, but I know enough to at least make sure that I'm safe. I sat down on the exam table, he prepped me, and marked the spot on my nose. It's probably worth getting a handheld mirror so we can examine ourselves without getting up for the floor-length mirror (I don't mind, but it probably will make the process more efficient). I had my other nostril pierced a few years ago and retired that piercing, so I would say this time was a little bit more painful than the previous, but that may be me getting older or my nostril tissue getting thicker (is that a Thing?), rather than any reflection on the piercer's skill. The kid hopped up and was done pretty quickly. We ended up going with two labret studs rather than a CBR. The experience was quick, and he didn't push the cleaning products on us, which I appreciate. Neither of us has had any problems with the piercings we got. I don't remember how much the cost was, but I think we paid around $150 after tip for the 3 piercings. I definitely tipped a bit more than usual, simply because I realize that piercing a 14 year old probably requires additional stress. read more

Nice looking place ~ when we first walked it it was empty besides the three tattoo artists. One of them was chilling on the couch playing video games on the TV which I thought was kinda weird but I've only been to one other tattoo shop so maybe it's normal. Seems like a sweet job, nonetheless. We were there to get my fiancé a tattoo and touch up a previous one he had gotten at this location. The touch up was for a red heart - his skin had not taken to the red very well and the tattoo was kindof blotchy and faded. The artist touched up the heart with a beautiful shade of bright red that looks AWESOME. Then he moved on to the other tattoo we came in to get. The artist was pretty quiet and not one for small talk but neither is my man so that worked out fine. :P In the end when we went to pay the artist apologised for the red not coming out well last time my fiancé was here and told us the new tattoo was on the house. So we didn't have to pay anything! I thought that was amazing and we were both shocked and tried to tip the man but he said they only accept tips in cash. My fiancé claims this is his favorite tattoo shop and now I know why. These guys will take good care of you. I highly recommend their shop. read more

I went in for my first ear piercings ever. Having a fear of needles, I had never really had the courage to get a piercing no matter how badly I wanted one. I walked in and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. I was taken care of immediately as there were no prior appointments before me. Pirate was extremely reassuring and professional about the piercing. He was patient and asked me to double check the placement of the holes to make sure I was happy with them. His sterile technique was spotless and made sure everything was sanitary before piercing. Revolution uses an actual needle instead of a gun, but Pirate was very practiced and swift. I barely felt any pain or pressure and almost no swelling after the earrings got out in. Afterward he went over care and cleaning very thoroughly, gave me an informational packet, and gave me his card and told me if any complications or irritation occurs to come in and get checked out. He even sat down and chit chatted with me after all was said and done about the town and city life. Very friendly, very professional, and very relaxing environment. Highly recommend! read more

I got a tattoo (my second) here last year. The guys were decently rude to my friend and I, but we're two college girls getting small tattoos, I get it- we're not your favorite type of customer so I let it slide. My tattoo was $40 and I tipped another $20 making it $60. Not bad. Low and behold as it healed the next couple days all the sharp lines dissipated into huge bumpy blown out lines. At this point I really regret my 50% tip seeing as the size and the severity of the blurring makes it unsalvageable. In the whole tattoo I have found one relatively straight line. read more

My experience at Revolution was short and not so sweet. Maybe I should preface this review by noting that I have 5 tattoos and 14 piercings, so I am used to walking into tattoo and/or body piercing studios and being taken seriously. I went to Revolution after work one day in hopes that they could adjust a nostril screw for me. My boyfriend had purchased a nostril screw for me for my birthday, but he had accidentally purchased one bent for a right nostril when it's my left nostril that is pierced. I walked up to Revolution to find what appeared to be most of the staff outside smoking. I walked in and was not greeted for several moments because the receptionist was playing a video game on a Playstation that was hooked up inside. The place seemed a little unconventional for a tattoo studio, but I have learned not to judge these places on appearances alone. While I waited, I did notice lots of signs for ridiculously discounted piercings (perhaps they are hurting for business a little? And there is no way they're using internally threaded jewelry for the prices advertised!). When I was finally waited on and I explained what I needed, I had to wait several more minutes for the body piercer to finish smoking his cigarette outside. The piercer walked me back to the piercing room. I watched him not wash his hands and just slap some rubber gloves on (he had just been out smoking, wtf?). He then looked up my nose, looked at the nostril screw I needed bent, and gave me some line of bull about not being able to bend the screw the opposite direction. (I know this to be untrue because it has been done for me before at other piercing establishments with no ifs, ands, or buts.) He finally bent the screw a tiny bit and claimed that it shouldn't stick out the bottom of my nostril anymore. I knew right away that this was not the adjustment my piece of jewelry needed, but by this point I had seen enough and just wanted to get out of there. The only reason they get even one star is because they adjusted my nostril screw for free. I usually tip my artists (even for services that are often free, such as jewelry adjustments), but needless to say Revolution did not earn a tip that evening. read more

I got my tragus pierced here last fall, and returned to get my double lobe piercing again since it closed up awhile ago. I was worried about the pain factor for the tragus piercing, but it was over in a few seconds and it has healed up nicely. Overall, the piercers are calm and good at what they do. Only thing I don't like is that they leave the door open when you are sitting in the piercing room which I find kind of odd. read more

I came in here today to get snake bites (two lip piercings). I was instantly greeted nicely by two gentleman. I told Pirate I was very nervous because it was my first piercing other than my ears. He was pretty nice about it and wasn't rude or made any smart ass comments. :p He helped me through the pain. And it actually was way less painful than I thought. I got a conch piercing about a year ago and it never healed. I went to another piercing place and they showed me that the jewelry they used at revolution was plated and chipping causing constant irritation. I replaced the jewelry and it's already so much better. read more

Let me just start by saying I have had 9 piercings in my life. The last one (an anti-eyebrow) I got done at Revolution, which was the first time I had ever been there. Pirate did my piercing and was very nice, the first two days it was healing perfectly but from then on it was just a cluster-fuck of irritation, infections and allergic reactions. Pirate failed to recognize that it was infected when I went in for his opinion and I ended up having to take oral antibiotics for almost a month. What a nightmare. I just had to have it taken out today after two months of hell with it. I went to Tattooed Heart and they were about 1 million times better than Revolution. read more

Very unwelcoming place to walk into. We were not greeted, we thought the person sitting on the couch was a customer waiting to be helped but turns out it was the employee. He was very uninterested in helping us figure out a size and design for a small tattoo we had in mind. I appreciate his advice about making sure it was big enough for lines to not run together with time, but he didn't even try to come up with a design that incorporated any of the ideas we showed him. Very awkward just standing there trying to figure it out as he sat there hardly responding. When we finally came up with a design that worked for him, he would make faces at his co-worker when we asked for adjustments for the placement. He was clearly annoyed with our business. It got to be so uncomfortable we decided to leave and not get a tattoo done by someone who didn't care about making sure it was right for us. read more

I wanted my septum pierced and asked a friend of mine that is a tattoo artist where to go. He told me to go to Pirate at Revolution. I went about six weeks ago and got it done. I am glad I did. Pirate was professional and did an amazing job. I was worried about the piercing because I have had a broken nose and now my septum is a little crooked. He pierced it and it looks awesome! I am disappointed in my experience at Revolution. I had a few tattoos already when I decided to visit Revolution. I had heard great things about the tattoo artists and I had been wanting another tattoo for awhile, so I pulled some cash together and went in. I had a very particular design in mind that involved a fair deal of line work. I ended up working with Asia, who I later found out is still pretty new to tattooing. As I was examining my new tattoo the next day, I noticed that not only were some of the lines not exactly even or spaced correctly, but that she had also missed two minor lines. I went in and she said she would just fill that in when I came in for a touch-up, which she said I didn't have to make an appointment for. A few weeks later, I went in for the touch-up on a Saturday around noon only to be informed that she didn't do touch-ups on the weekends. I can understand that an artist doesn't want to do that sort of work when they are busy, but there was literally nobody else in the shop. So, I scheduled a touch-up for a weekday. I showed up on time and we were making small talk while she was finishing getting ready. I asked her what types of tattoos she enjoyed the most and she said that she liked doing all types except line work because it was "boring and just work, there's no fun in it." She was either being rude or had forgotten what she was about to work on, and both of those options are not attributes of a good artist. read more

Only downside was that they faded quickly in some areas and I found I needed to go back and get both touched up within four months. Both designs were my own so I can't say much about design skill but all their portfolios were great! read more

My experience was totally opposite that of Kristen's. I too was in need of a nostril piercing adjustment. I came to Revolution after going to at least 6 other piercing and tattoo places all over Lafayette all of which were closed at 6 PM on a Monday. I walked into Revolution with a captive bead nose ring in and needed to change it out to a screw. All I wanted to do was purchase some pliers, as mine had gone MIA. The piercer informed me that I shouldn't be changing the jewelry so soon after getting it done, which I already knew but had no choice. My work is apparently OK with nose rings only as long as it is a stud and not a ring. What kind of mess is that?? Anyways, the piercer told me what I already knew, but agreed to change out my jewelry anyway. He was very quick and I really loved him taking time out to explain to me a little about my particular new jewelry, which again I already knew but it proved that he didn't have his head up his butt and knew what he was talking about. read more

Out of all the tattoo parlors on campus, I would recommend, without hesitation, Revolution. The staff is extremely talented and friendly. I got both of my tattoos here and I had absolutely no problems with my session, during and afterwards. I was very satisfied with the work that was done on my body and would trust these artists perform again on me if I ever decided to get another tattoo. They do their work by appointment, so make sure to have your piece in mind and to make the appointment a few days in advanced. They take a down payment for the tattoo, and then you finish paying for the work once it has been completed. As far as tattoos go, they are very reasonable with their charges. They also do piercings, but I have never gotten anything pierced, but I have heard Pirate is very good at doing all kinds of piercings. After your work has been done, they give you a sheet of instructions on how to care for your tattoo during the healing process, which is really nice for someone who is getting their first piece done. I was very happy with this parlor and would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a good place to get a tattoo done. read more

I went in to Revolution today for the first time with two of my girlfriends wanting pretty basic college girl piercings (triples, a cartilage, and a nose piercing.) We walked in and were not even greeted! I instantly felt uncomfortable and unwelcomed (fyi: not the best way to feel walking into a place that is about to put a needle through my body). The piercer just stared at us while he was sitting on a couch watching TV. He rudely asked, "What can I do?" with absolutely no enthusiasm or excitement. I asked about pricing and different earrings, all with blunt, unhelpful responses. As my friend was getting her nose marked, she politely asked if the placement could be changed so her glasses wouldn't hit the nose piercing (a normal thing to ask for, placement is everything when it comes to piercings!) The piercer (I don't even know his name because he didn't even introduce himself) seemed very annoyed by this request. Once it was my turn for my cartilage, he placed the markings not even close to where I asked (my directions were simple and clear: right above a cartilage piercing I already have) and had to ask him to change the placement multiple times. He replied with "you are pointing in 4 different spots, where do you want it?" with a snarky tone. At this point I just got off the table. My other friend didn't even get to hers because we were over it at that point. I have never been to a place so rude and unwelcoming. Thank god I didn't give this place my money. For my 61st birthday I decided to get a tattoo. I explained to Ryan what I wanted- not a standard tattoo at all. He told me he would come up with some ideas and we set the date. My first experience with Revolution was good, got a piercing done and the guy that did it was very nice and careful. After a few months I bought myself a new piercing and tried to change it myself but was unsuccessful. So I decided to stop by and ask them to do it. Some other piercer was there, chubby side and very grumpy. Worst costumer service ever, basically told me I haven't cleaned it properly and there was nothing he could do, which is bull, not my first piercing and never had any problems. I told myself maybe he had a bad day so I brushed it off. One of my friends had the same experience with that guy. I decided to give them another chance and called about having my nose pierced, he answered the phone and I knew it was him, I could tell I was bothering him with my questions so I went somewhere else.
