It was a…read morestrange surprise when I excitedly went to play a newly purchased RED HOT's vinyl and realized the actual audio of the vinyl itself was mis-pressed with a different genre entirely! Naturally there can't really be any blame, as the label even read exactly as it was supposed to. Bit of a bummer as it was a rare record, in my price range, and I was super stoked to acquire it. In all fairness the staff attempted every available option to solve the issue. Unfortunately, they couldn't give me my money back, but instead store credit, with a small bonus. This kinda sucked as I am broke and didn't get what I was hoping for. I wasn't aware of the store policy of no refunds. However, the staff was super solid to handle the intensity and I am on a list to hopefully get it replaced when a future order comes in, as to benefit my Uplift Mofo Party Plan. I hope to have continued good vibes with this business. They do a great job. In past days I have recommended them extensively and will continue to, especially when someone is looking for something specific. I would slightly hesitate to crown them as the best record store in Edmonton, only because all the record suppliers of this city have different strengths and virtues to their skillset. However, this store is like an air strike of vinyl and the selection available is impressive and formidable. Plus, the staff is as knowledgeable as one can hope for. Long story short, looking forward to eventually getting said record, finger crossed. No bad blood intended, as other times it has been dimes and good luck. Honestly, this is a premier record store, especially if money isn't a huge issue. Literally 98% of your record dreams can come true there! Keep the music alive!! Viva Rock 'n Roll (and) Revolution!

They're frequented by the fedora-wearing music geeks with black-framed glasses, usually seen carrying a leather shoulder bag with a a big flap (presumably to carry their records in.) If you can imagine a universe where Joy Division never broke up, the Chemical Brothers became the new Beatles, and Lisa Loeb is still hot, than you will enjoy Listen Records & CDs. The staff at Listen is awesome. Very nice, personable guys with a lot of patience. My wife went there recently with a long list of items that she was seeking out for me. She said that the dude working the check-out was totally cool and didn't mind looking up every item on the list to see if it was available, and if not, where she could find it. He didn't even exhibit any signs of musical snobbery towards my classic rock and metal leanings. She came home full of raves (and records). If you're into metal or older rock music, Listen won't be your ideal stop, but it's great for people who aren't into mainstream stuff. Listen has a demographic in mind and they who know their target audience is.

The staff is extremely helpful and know their music. If you tell them what kind of music you like they are always good at suggesting more music you might like. Also if you really can't find what you're looking for, they will gladly order it for you. I find this store to be better than HMV only music they don't mainly cater to the mainstream.

The staff is super helpful and will provide recommendations based on your purchases and questions. Blackbyrd's prices are much better then other stores in Edmonton for the same items (believe me, I comparison shop all the time). If on Whyte and looking for something new to put on your turntable, drop in to Blackbyrd and take a look around - you're bound to find something great.

Whenever I go to this store, yes there is a variety of music in all genres.. lots of great prices…read more. my only complaint is the man-bun wearing staff member that served me made and me feel like I shouldn't be in the store, by correcting me on my pronunciation of a band name and over educating me on my "lifestyle" music.. Not to mention the time I went there on a Sunday and the guy was hung over and disinterested in actually being there. My daughter and I were discussing how there is a snobby air whenever we walk in.. sorry I don't have a man bun, and pronounce things the way he does, excuse me all to heck. If you don't mind feeling like a foreigner, getting corrected on your pronunciation and getting lectured on your taste.. do go here. EROC wouldnt even stock items in that condition as I havent seen any junk here. I found some rarities and did not leave empty handed. Despite being called "curmudgeon" the staff were friendly and helpful. Also, did I mention the poster collection? From classic rock to modern acts, the poster selection is pretty epic. Serious music fans need to check this place out.

We walked in without a particular game in mind, more just wanting to browse their Pokemon, Zelda, Kirby, and Fire Emblem stock, plus any other nostalgic games we came across. Sure enough, they had large selection of Nintendo games available, from GameCube, GameBoy, DS, Wii and the Switch. The store was very quiet, as we were the only customers inside during our whole visit. The front employee was very friendly and helpful, ensuring to check up on us periodically as I took my time looking through their selection. The way this store is organized makes it more suiting for those who have a good idea of what they are looking for, as most of their games are stored in cases or behind the counter. For those just browsing like I was, it is really hard to see what they have behind the counter, as there is a fair distance between you and the shelf. I did appreciate that they were alphabetically organized though! Many of their games also don't come in cases, so if you're curious about what the game is about, you have to look it up on your phone or ask the staff. The other inconvenience was that the games are not marked with prices, so again, you have to ask the employee each time which I found a little tedious. As for their game selection, there were very limited Pokemon and Zelda games, and no Fire Emblem games. That's obviously not a fault on their part, but if you have a particular game in mind, I would recommend calling ahead of time to see if they do have it available.

The Old Strathcona Antique Mall is a fun place to check out if you're around Old Strathcona/Whyte…read moreAve. There's free parking lot for patrons, which is a bonus in this area of Edmonton. They are the largest antique store in Western Canada, and so there is a lot to see here. From vintage license plates to toys to furniture to everything in between (and then some). I like coming here just to browse and see what they have. The Old Strathcona Antique Mall is filled with different antique/vintage vendors so trying to hunt down a particular item can be hard, and might be in more than one spot. That said I've been on the hunt for vintage travel postcards from specific destinations I've visited (and there's a particular style I want). Postcards are in several different spots so when I come here I try to go through them all. I've done pretty well on my mission, but there are still some destinations I don't have. Oh no that means I have to go back to The Old Strathcona Antique Mall, probably pretty soon.
