Greetings all. Let me start by saying I have purchased 2 vehicles from Van Horn. I found the…read moresalesman to be helpful an genuine in their negotiation to work within their limits to make sure you're leaving with the car within your desire and affordability. When I purchased my 2nd vehicle a part of the deal was a program called "Tires for Life" with this guarantee I also purchased the bells and whistles of maintenance. I actually use to boast about Van Horn to all that would listen about the promised deal negotiated between us. So for years anytime I needed a scheduled maintenance, repair or a replacement part.. even a factory recall, I drove the 40 minutes to their automotive maintenance for the service necessary. I got to know the crew enjoy the employees personally and trusted their work. Only one time in five years was I forced to receive maintenance somewhere else in the middle of a road trip. After 5 years when my tires needed replacing I approached VanHorn about the "Tires for life" program that I was a part of. The head mechanic I got to know and trust was no longer there, so I was forced to deal with management. I was soon confronted with a much younger ( arrogant beyond his years) manager who suggested I needed some kind of book that was needed to be signed every time I went in for service. I was never offered this book or was informed by the mechanics over the years suggesting they sign off on said book. in fact all the time I mentioned the promised tires for life I was promised that I remain in good standing. I had been lied to. VanHorn shamefully wasn't true to their word and showed no honor while denying me an unkept promise. This promotion was the deal maker... and unfortunately is now the deal breaker. I nor the rest of my family will step foot in a VanHorn show room or garage again. As well, I preach out to anyone and everyone who is searching for a vehicle to avoid this dealer. Being blatantly lied to for years, the set up for the rudeness to follow will not be forgotten for at least a generation. Avoid this lot.

See the second last paragraph on making sure you ask about keys up front**** Bought a used 2012 Equinox LTZ which was a nice vehicle and admittedly the price was very competitive. (I drove an hour from the Milwaukee area to look at it). I was feeling a bit stressed about the process. We kind of had the idea given to us by the people at the dealership that times have changed with car buying and internet use and what you see priced is what you get. But, I feel like some other things have not changed like the silly shenanigans of ''and just for you I can offer this special discount coupon on...'';. I just wanted to buy my vehicle and leave and I made it very clear up front that I didn't need to hear the spiel on extended warranties, financing, whatever but still ended up having to have the attempts made. Ok, well, Wayne was pleasant enough to deal with and I really did appreciate that after the whole deal was done, he could have just said bye and had me on my way but I had a question about something on the car and he went outside and actually sat with me in the car for like 5 minutes and showed me the stuff on the crazy entertainment system and spent time going over all those little bells and whistles that are hard to think about when you are looking at everything else on the car. So, for Wayne, he gets a 5 star in my book. At the end of everything while plates were being placed on the car they did this weird thing having me leave a comment on a laptop about my experience (which I did but it just felt odd). So, I imagine it will end up on their website or some other website. Lastly, apparently I am ignorant in the art of used car purchasing. Even though the car is a year old or less, actually. I never thought to ask about whether I would receive a second key. Kind of thought or assumed or really never even entered my mind. I was getting ready to leave after they put the plates on and they handed me the key and I said, ''oh, isn't there another key''; which I was told that there was not. So I then asked how much they would cost and the response was ''around $50 ''. They keys are the all-in-one transponder key. So, I was pretty disappointed in that and knew it was really too late for me to do anything about it. I was a nervous wreck until I could get a new, duplicate key. I called the local Chevy dealer, (Holz, what a scam or maybe they all are) and the guy told me it would be $75 for a key and another $40 to program them! What?!?!?! And, I know in the world of the fancy key that is not even that bad of a price. But, I called around and a local locksmith, Whitlow Security (wonderful by the way), made duplicates for $50 each and that was with the ''programming''. Got two and they both work great like the original (yeah Whitlow, your my next review) will never bring my vehicle to Holz now. Just left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I was torn about the review rating but I was definitely not thrilled about the process and even less-so about the key situation. The key was what pushed me to giving this a 2 star (fair) rating. It just made everything worrysome until I could procure one. I purchased the vehicle for $25k cash and can't even get another key! Updated on 10/22/12. I was contacted the very next day after I posted this review by an employee at Van Horn to resolve the key issue. They read the review! So, they offered to pay me for the keys I had made at another location. That was very surprising and unexpected. I am upgrading my previous review based on the fact that they actually cared enough to contact me and to correct my main problem!
