I love all the classes, including Barre, Strength, and Yoga. These classes do not require any pre-reqs. For the Barre class, you do some work on the bar, but you aren't expected to be a ballerina. It is doing workouts where using the bar helps for balance or to target specific areas. For the strength classes, you don't need 20 lbs weights. Body weight is perfectly fine. In Yoga, it's not about handstand, it's about the mind/body connection. The instructors will set you up for success! Come see for yourself!

Gerardo aka "G" was a fantastic host and put me up on their special Olympic weightlifting platform, offered water and supplements and really made me feel at home. Coach Jake (organic Jake) was an awesome training partner for the day and we had a great time putting up some heavy weight! I was in town Easter weekend (Saturday, March 30, 2013) visiting family and I needed to get my…read moreCrossfit on like I normally do in San Diego on Saturdays so I searched for a Crossfit in the area and bingo I found Crossfit High Definition on yelp! The first two reviews were right on. I called up the gym at 8am and spoke to Alison who told me there was a 9am and a 10:30am class that I could drop into. This week everyone was working on qualifying for the Crossfit Games so that seemed a little intimidating, but having been to quite a few classes I decided to go in. The 10:30am Mobility class was a yoga, stretching & joints type of class. Everyone was really open, friendly and positive. We went around and said names because 2 or 3 of us were new faces and then we went over warm ups and breaking down how to do the qualifers. It was very easy for me to jump right in and feel at home, I was able to ask everyone all my Q's about the Games, qualifying, the foundation classes and how they got involved with Crossfit. I even learned some new lingo when they asked me what "box" did I normally go to. What I was really interested to see and inspired by, was how diverse the class was. There were so many different age groups at the qualifer. High school to retirement. There so many different fitness levels as well. Some people were modifying the WOD to fit their beginner/limited ability and some people were pushing themselves past their PRs, some people were seeing where they ranked in the Crossfit Games qualifer just for fun and some were really pushing themselves to possibly go to regionals. Really a great group of people and coaches who definitely fit the Crossfit culture. They tell you to relax and push you based on your individual needs. And by the time I was done I was getting high fives and words of encouragement like everyone else even though I was just a drop in. They didn't let me leave feeling like just a drop it. So I WILL BE BACK. I'm glad I came in and High Def will definitely be my Crossfit home away from home. Highlights: They have a kids playroom so mom and dad can workout, watch your things because the kids may get into them lol (one little girl was looking for a cough drop in everyone's bag), plenty of parking, it's located on Poplar Street near 395 and Main. You can see the storefront of Unit 6 right from the street Bldg A or B, plenty of parking, there's no check in desk so just walk in and ask for a coach or call ahead if it's your first time.

On the first day, I took their complimentary 30-minute intro class, where they walk you through how to use the equipment and finish with a mini workout. The studio is immaculate, smells amazing, and feels like a safe, relaxing space. The staff is incredibly welcoming. Our trainer both days was Emily, and she is phenomenal. She guides you through every movement with clarity and offers great modifications if you need them. I had never tried Pilates before, and I was surprised by how much I loved it. It worked muscles I didn't even know I had--especially my core--and it's definitely more challenging than it looks, in a good way. Today, my friend and I went back for a second complimentary class, which was a 50-minute stretch and mobility session using the Pilates equipment. It was more intense, especially for being only our second time, but we both really enjoyed it. Emily was just as amazing and encouraging as the day before. If you're thinking about trying Pilates, I highly recommend starting with their complimentary 30-minute intro class. It gives you a chance to learn the equipment and see if it's a good fit for you. The staff is so kind, the other class members were friendly, and the environment is incredibly comfortable and welcoming.

Even though I'm just starting out, they always find a way for me to make my workout challenging yet doable. One of the best things is their youth class. My daughter (11 years old) wasn't to motivated to exercise before but now she can't wait to come in and challenge herself. I just took my second class at Peaceful Warrior Yoga in Apple Valley. It was fantastic, as was the…read morefirst. It's located in the historic Apple Valley Inn business park, on the left side by the big main restaurant building. The studio exterior is painted light blue, so it's easy to spot. They require very instructor to have a 200 hour certification, and wow, can you tell and feel the difference that level of training makes. Their cueing was precise and easy to follow without looking. Both instructors at the classes I took were kind, gentle but challenging, and encouraging in the more challenging poses. They explained each pose so clearly, with a constant reminder to breathe, that a beginner could easily follow along and feel great about it. I didn't think I'd be able to do some of the longer holds, but she gave authentic encouragement and I did!! The studio itself is serene, smells heavenly, and feels calm and refreshing. You can feel the intention to be true to the tenants of yoga and it's incredible physical, emotional, mental and spiritual benefits. The yoga room is airy and bright, with floor to ceiling picture windows with drapes to darken the room when needed. Plenty of space around you to breathe, move, and you won't get sweat on by your neighbor. Complimentary hot tea available. The yoga room is tech/phone/distraction free... You'll find no gym-feel here. No competitiveness, no mirrors, no selfies, no one trying to outdo the other. They've made the intention and tone obvious. For YOU to meet YOURself on YOUR mat... get quiet and in touch with what's going on inside, move it through and make space for more juicy goodness. The highly trained instructors guide you not only the physical poses, but continually offer the mindset of yoga as well. It's a huge difference. I'm already in love with this studio. I think you will be too.

The owner, Beth, is very warm and personable! She made sure that she had memorized my name before my first class was over. Yoga tends to be one of the most kind and helpful things that I feel I can do for my body. The deep stretching gives me plenty of endorphins and certain poses strengthen my entire body. I appreciate that I don't need to mess with any weights or machines! I get to challenge myself to breathe past the pose holding and find myself looking and feeling much better! Including my forever aching hips! Even just showing up once a week! My only reservation is that the studio was a bit chilly (which is often nice when my body is warmed up and I'm sweating though!) I can not recommend it enough!
