Riccas sold us two doors in very poor shape that turned out to be unrepairable when returning them we learned that we can only have store credit. Hopefully everyone else will do better than we did, but I would not recommend at all! read more

I stopped in to pick up a piece of New Orleans history to take back to Texas. I've always found that non-traditional souvenirs are much better talking points and hold way more sentimental value than the traditional Tchotchkes or abundance of available magnets. Although I didn't find that one special piece which was small enough to safely throw in my luggage, I saw an enormous amount of pieces I would have loved to own. The sheer amount of old doors is almost overwhelming; almost every period is available for sale, in a multitude of eye-catching colors, sizes, and designs. Street lamps, wrought iron pieces, tin ceiling tiles, and indoor hardware are all there! If you're a history buff, love old architecture, or just like to browse, this place should be on your list of things to do while in "The Big Easy." read more

12 years later... guess I'll re-review. I got an FtR for this business in 2009 and I'm still going back. If you need architectural salvage this is a must stop. And you may need to return on several occasions to get just what you need. I've purchased a window, hardware, trim and a cabinet from Ricca's over the years. When I bought my house I was probably over there monthly. It can sometimes be a challenge to find someone to assist you but the folks who work there really really know their stuff. Be careful as you wander the back of the store and handle doors/shutters/windows what not. My recommendation for closed toe shoes still stand. And it's mostly a warehouse so don't expect A/C... or heat if it ever stops being hot. read more

Good Product. Horrible Customer Service. The first time we went, I just thought they were having a bad day. However after the encounter we had today, this must be their standard, rude customer service. Before heading to their location we verified, that they would be open until 5, by doing a search. However, when we arrived at 3:50, we were greeted with Hi you can't come in we are closing at 4 and the lights have been turned out. Since we were exchanging an item we informed the woman in charge to which she turned and proceeded to tell the next group of customers that they were closed and then she asked another group to move out of the way so she could turn out the lights. It is very evident that our business as well as the other groups of people is not of interest, even though we had traveled almost 3 hours to get here. After stating so and showing her that the closing time was 5 in our search, she told me that it was on the website and Yelp, which it is, but shouldn't you update the place where the majority of your customers would look? We own a business, and as much as our product is important, even more so is the attitude and care that we offer our customers! Even turning off the lights 10 minutes before your "supposed "closing time, shows lack of respect! If this so called rudeness is the norm at this business, then at least do an update on your hours, so that if I want to be abused, I will know what time to show up! read more

I've been to a few of the architectural salvage stores in town, all of which are fun places to shop for whatever you may need for your old house, but what sets Ricca's apart is the fact it's spotlessly clean and extremely well organized. Twice we showed up during business hours, and twice they said they had already closed for the day and wouldn't let us in. I wanted to love this place. But their customer service was HORRIBLE. I was looking for something very specific, and they had a few options. But they close early and I wanted to double check my measurements before I bought something. Especially with their prices, which seemed a bit high, so I went to the cash wrap to ask about calling to pay for it over the phone. There were multiple people behind the cash wrap, and two different people waiting to check out. I waited for what seemed like quite some time before anyone even acknowledged that I was there. There were multiple people just sitting behind the cash wrap not doing anything. They have a wall of intricate figures, glass fixtures, and art in front of the cash wrap. I saw a beautiful piece of circular glass (not sure what it was and I couldn't see a tag) that had a magnolia and some writing, it was about the size of a dinner plate. I wanted to know the price, but first I looked around for a sign that said "ask for help" or "don't touch" and didn't see one. So I picked up the piece and turned it around to find a price or a tag, and didn't see one. I placed it back where I got it and kept browsing the wall, and then heard, very loudly, "Ma'am I'd prefer if you didn't touch that!". It was almost a yell, I was mortified. I had been waiting for someone for some time and the first acknowledgment I get is a reprimand for touching something for sale with no signs about not touching it?? THEN, a different woman came from behind the counter and asked if she could help. I was so taken aback, I just asked about calling to pay over the phone on Monday after I measure, the woman who reprimanded me spoke up again loudly, interrupting the young lady, saying they weren't open Monday. I honestly just felt like she didn't want me in her store. I felt like she was almost trying to make me feel unwelcome. Cue the scene from Pretty Woman when she tries to shop on Rodeo Drive. So, even though they have what I want, I'm not going back. Good customer service goes a long way, and can make up for the overpricing merchandise. Well, all I have to say to the woman who made me feel unwelcome, is "Big mistake". Just like Julia said! read more

I am undecided about this place for several reasons. 1: I love the idea and the purpose behind the business. to find historic/old pieces of furniture needed for your older house. 2. I do not like however, the prices. while I can appreciate that some of the items must be valuable based on simply being available, I also believe that those of us trying to preserve the sanctuary of our homes should not be penalized and be forced to pay some exorbitant prices to do so. 3. many of the doors we were looking at (yes, a random 34"x88" door) had no prices. this makes me leery in ANY type of business, because I cannot see the price; thus I am forced to rely solely on what the employee tells me. Definitely a great place to check out - it has some really great stuff. However, be ready to drop some serious bling for things. Trying to put back together the pieces I feel should be something accessible to NOLA residents to help keep the city as beautiful as possible. read more

Great selection of doors and windows that is very well organized (far more so than the Bank). Lots of interesting oddities and accessories as well (e.g. church pews, giant chandeliers). They offer delivery for a fee and the staff are pretty funny. read more

Ricca's is a great place. The prices are reasonable considering most items and cleaned and stripped - that's a lot of work, folks. If you've ever tried to strip a 100 year old door of 25 layers of paint and dirt you will appreciate the almost perfectly clean condition of most of the items. It is almost impossible to get them that clean yourself with a scraper and paint stripper. I was looking for a set of pocket doors and recieved some very expert advice and attention from Julie - and I wasn't even looking to buy that day. Ricca's has very helpful and expert staff! I'm calling Julie out by name because she was delightfully helpful. read more

Unique, wonderful store! I have gotten a stained glass window there and most recently the carpenter was able to rebuild a custom casement window for me. The window rebuild was very quick and price was right on par or less than contractors I had gotten quotes from. They have a great selection of doors, windows, hardware, and tons of fun one-of-a-kind pieces. Very friendly customer service also. Great New Orleans business. read more

The good news is that this place has an extensive selection of authentic NOLA home replacement parts to renovate and maintain your historic property. The bad news is this is a graveyard of parts and pieces of historic homes we've lost. The prices are also quite eye opening as many of the items are quite more expensive than you would think. I fear such prices will further the looting of many of our abandoned historic homes and further deteriorate them so they become even less likely to be renovated. Entire blocks of historic neighborhoods were torn down in the process of building the new Medical Center of Louisiana on 78 acres so apparently there are forces that would like us to look like strip mall everywhere else America at work. I mourn the passing of so much of NOLA's history and charm but this is probably still the best place to get historically appropriate replacements and repairs to your historic NOLA architecture. read more

I went to riccas to sell some doors that were left over from my renovation. The old lady told me to wait while she got someone. The young kid came out and agreed to buy them. After I unloaded the old man balked at the amount I was offered for them and tole me to go load them up because he didnt want them. Confusing. I took them to the green project and got a nice tax write off. they have some nice doors though. read more
