Below is the email I wrote to Richard Nicholas salon three days ago. I have not heard back, and I am still in extreme distress over the haircut I got several days ago. I want my money back but truly nothing can stop me from crying every time I look in the mirror. Hi, I am writing to ask who I can speak to about getting a refund for my haircut yesterday. It is a terrible haircut, and it has caused me significant distress over the last two days. I am extremely unhappy with the results. Not only is it too short, but my bangs are completely uneven. I asked for curtain bangs and said I liked how my hair looked before and just wanted to keep it fresh and healthy. The bangs I got are not curtain bangs at all, and I look completely different than how I did before. I attached a photo of my hair straightened showing the complete difference in the two sides of my bangs. This is not what I asked for and I can't even style it to look normal because the sides are so uneven. I am going to have to pay to have it fixed and styled, as I am graduating this month. He lightened them up a bit did a root shadow & gloss, evened out some of the previous color from where I had gone previously. He did exactly what I asked for, which I loved! I felt like I was ripped off :(.... I gave a star for location & friendly service by the stylist. I was in town for work and needed to get my hair done. I was reserved with Kellie, she was friendly, attentive and provided advice. Unfortunately my experience at the end was disappointing. Kellie asked if I wanted to have my hair blow dried, I said "sure, but not straight". She grabbed the blow dryers and half dried my curles. In the end when the owner or manager charged my card she said $$$ I said WHAT? I asked her to brake it down for me and when she said I paid $50 dollars to dry my hair I felt horrible!... I asked her why she charged so much and told her I never get charged to dry my curles, it is nothing special... her response was "that's what we charge, next time say you dont want to have it dried" I wanted to tell her next time make sure to disclose the cost to your customers before you do it, but I was so in shock that I kept to my self. I did not get the color I wanted and my hair feels dry. Not going back and cannot recommend based on experience, but if you want go make sure you know the costs. read more

Could not be happier with my experiences here! I came in about a month ago for a simple trim with Wyatt and got a really lovely cut (1). He didn't take off too much length, which a lot of stylists I've gone to in the past often did. Today I came back in for a BIG color change (went from ~9 month old blonde balayage on a dark brunette base to a beautiful auburn, a color I've never done before) with Amber Lastoskie (@ambsthecolorist on Instagram), and honestly this is probably the BEST my hair has ever looked (the other photos)! She did a spectacular job and made my hair look even better than I envisioned! The color is so rich and my hair has never been shinier. I showed a few friends my hair and their jaws literally dropped because it is so gorgeous! Plus Amber was so sweet, just an absolute joy to be around. And the prices are very reasonable- high quality results that don't break the bank. I'm willing to shell out a lot for good hair care and what I paid was worth every penny. I walk in and say "i need a bit less length, but do whatever you want beyond that" and leave looking fresh and feeling absolutely great. Joey knows how different hair textures behave, and works with your hair to give you the best cut possible. My hair is curly and heavy, and Joey is a master at managing it. I was looking for a new salon and tried Richard Nicholas because it was close to work, had great Yelp reviews and they also have convenient online booking. I booked my cut with Nick Jr and I love my hair!! I have thick curly hair that I keep short but it loses its shape quickly and gets unruly with frizz easily. He just knew exactly what cut would be most flattering to my face. I didn't have to do much explaining - which is part of what I think makes a great stylist....when they can just look at you and know how to give you a flattering cut and style. I also didn't make a color appointment ahead of time and they accommodated my request when I arrived. Everyone who works there is very nice and provides great customer service. Great experience! Nadine is a truly fantastic hairdresser, and she has a very pleasant personality. Her cuts and skill level are as good as it gets. She never pushes my teen kid to add processing/color and (kindly) discouraged her from getting keratin. I really appreciate how she sees a teen as still a kid, and does not push for more expensive chemical processes. I chat with the salon staff when I drop the kid off, they are all very friendly, polite, and professional. I see a lot of other hairdressers doing really great cuts too. When I first moved to center city Philly from NYC, I scoured yelp to find the #1 Best Colorist in the area. After going to a few sub par colorists, I was lucky enough to finally find John Brown, my Master Color Expert, aka Color Sensei. Not only does John do an amazing job making my blonde foil highlights look completely natural, (I'm actually a brunette) he also mixes custom toner to perfectly match my complexion using color contour techniques. You can totally tell that he is one of only a few Wella Educators who is also a Master Color Expert (MCE) in the country because he always seems to be teaching advanced color and cutting techniques to the other stylists, who all seem very eager to learn from him. He even won Wella's North America Educator of the Year in 2016, which also seems to be a pretty big deal in the hair field. He creates vivid jewel and pastel colors and tones for more adventurous clients and has expert level hair cutting skills, customizing my hair cut with thoughtful attention every single time. He recently even cut my husband's hair, who normally goes to a high end barber, and he absolutely loved it. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a new regular colorist/stylist or even just for a special occasion hair cut or color. John, I'll follow you wherever you go! read more

Made an appointment with Joey very last minute when my regular stylist at another salon canceled my appointment due to the flu. I should have known it would not go well as I was able to get a same-day appointment for that afternoon. I have very fine hair. He used a razor on my head. Without warning or consulting or getting permission, he used a razor on my hair! I was appalled when I realized what he was doing on the back of my head!! It's a total ROOKIE mistake but he has been in the industry for a while so I can only imagine that it was sheer ignorance or laziness. It took months to grow it out! I WILL NEVER GO BACK THERE! Models, beware of Charlie. He will offer you free services and then commence stalking behavior. He reached out to my photographer to ask if any models wanted a free blowout. I took the offer and texted with Charlie to set up an appointment. He seemed a bit flirtatious over text, but alarm bells weren't ringing yet. When I got to the salon, he quickly ushered me upstairs away from other clients. During the blowout, he interspersed awkward objectifying comments. He kept insisting that I needed to send him BTS pictures from the lingerie shoot I was about to do, to which I answered noncommittally "I'll try." Once I left the salon and went to my shoot, he started texting every few minutes asking for photos. I sent him one photo of me fully clothed. He kept insisting on more photos and then started demanding the address of the studio. Granted he had the (male) photographers number and could have asked him, but he kept asking me. After 5 or 6 texts of "C'mon, just tell me where you are!" I put my foot down and said I would not give him the studio address as that was not my information to disclose. He finally left it (and me) alone. I'm giving the salon 3 stars because I had experiences here with other stylists who were professional and lovely. However, management needs to fire this creep. read more

I read the several positive reviews which prompted me to schedule an appointment with the stylist, Josie. Unfortunately my hair is nothing like I wanted. Upon consultation I really felt like we both were on the same page. The color cape went on and the bleach was applied in a rather heavy way which worried me a bit but I remained calm. To add, I think the overall process of 'hair painting' was a bit more painful than I would have wanted as my hair was pulled by the brush strokes and clip a lot. After the bleach was applied I sat under a dryer for a bit and noticed that some bleach had got on my eyebrow and bleached it ;| It was fixed, but that still sucked. I was done processing and taken over to the sink where I got shampooed etc., then had a toner put on for maybe what was too long? I'm really not sure if my hair didn't lighten enough or the toner deepened the blonde too much BUT the blonde is pretty orange-y. Also, the blonde is SO heavy in my face, nothing like the 'natural' look I asked for. I simply wanted beachy streak hair, but got something totally not that. You may ask why I didn't say anything while at the salon, but that's because I was so concerned with how much I hated my blowout (which was extra- something I am used to paying for, but fyi). I had approximately 4+ products put in my hair from start to finish which left my fine silky hair feeling like straw. I'm positive you could have woven a basket with it. Now I am stuck with this hair-do as I don't live in Philadelphia (was just visiting) and until I can let my hair repair from the processing. This all came for a price tag of $150 plus tip. I got a super short haircut today from Juaquin and i love it. He's the first hair stylist i've ever had who actually went as short as I said,. Other stylists kept it longer than what i wanted, making me look like a Beatle instead of Girl Interrupted Winona Ryder. Also, this might be a plus for some people, as it was for me: Juaquin does not make a lot of small talk while he's working. Personally, I like someone who just lets me be quiet and relax while I'm getting my hair done. read more

So I cheated on my stylist and went to Richard Nicholas last Wednesday. I knew it was time to try someone new I just needed to shake things up in the hair dept. So with a deep feeling of guilt I went in and saw Joaquin who came highly recommended by my friend Erin below. I am not a product person but did very much enjoy all the bumble and bumble products used they smelled amazing. Joaquin was great just what I like straight forward to the point and not alot of idle chatter. Also he offered an opinion on what I should do which is always nice. I hate going somewhere and you ask them what they think and the just kind of look at you like you were supposed to know when you walk in and how dare you ask them that. Anyway he was great and my hair came out looking and feeling healthy and happy. My blowout was fantastic(wish I could replicate it on my own) and the price was reasonable $60 for a cut and blowout.
