I had Jill as my stylist and could not recommend her more. I asked for a darker brown balayage and was SO happy with the result. She did exactly what I asked for and was so pleasant. I can't recommend her enough! The salon is very large and open so I felt safe and everyone was following covid precautions.

I highly recommend this salon! I was in town for a conference last week and also had multiple events to attend. I needed a cut and styling, and the salon accommodated my last minute appointment on a Friday afternoon. All the staff were incredibly nice--from the greeting at the front desk to washing my hair, everyone was friendly. Kathy was my hairstylist, and she has decades of experience under her belt! It showed from the way she conversed with me as a client to her professional skills in cutting and styling my hair. Kathy delivered exactly what I wanted. I get haircuts every two years because it's hard for me to trust hairstylists because they always cut my hair too short when I request to "keep the length." Kathy trimmed my dead ends but kept the length and styled my hair based on what she thought would hold for the weather. I loved getting to know her as well! The salon also serves complimentary wine which was a plus. If I'm back in Philly, this will be my go-to salon. Thank you again!

KAIT IG: @thetropicblonde Kait did my hair and really rocked out. She literally gave me the best haircut I've ever had, she's incredible; I am in love! If you're going to this salon, definitely request & book her for your next cut, color or style!

I've visited this one for the first time Saturday to have my hair done for my 50th birthday party. It was a huge event and I was nervous about trying a new salon. The minute I walked in I felt welcomed and could see the level of skill and professionalism by the staff. The salon is very chic and welcoming. Jessica was my stylist and Anthony was the assistant who washed my hair and made sure I was comfortable and had everything I needed while I waited. Sitting with Jessica I explained to her what I was hoping to do and she listened and didn't rush me at all. It was a great experience and I can honestly say I don't think my hair ever looked better. It stayed the whole night even though it was humid and I got so many compliments. Even the party venue staff asked where I had it done. We left the party at almost 2 in the morning and every hair was still in place perfectly. I'm so thrilled I can't wait to return. IPDATE- Nine months later and I'm now a very happy regular customer here and I've seen about six different stylists. All have been talented and terrific.

Big kudos to this salon for being able to accommodate me on such short notice. Josh spent a fair amount of time on me helping me change my brown hair with blonde highlights to something "sleek and shiny," a lot bolder and more daring. "I've been going to the same stylist for the past three years and feel it's time for a change," I told him. He agreed that change is good. As this was my first time with him, I studied his actions carefully and, except for one point when it was busy, he really put his all into working with me. I could tell by the way he cut my hair that he really enjoys what he's doing and has a passion for it. My previous stylist at another salon sometimes left me with a feeling of disconnectedness, like she really didn't want to be there. Not so with Josh. He was communicating with me every step of the way. This salon is a huge upgrade for me. My previous salon used to be nicer than it is now, but downgraded its interior space because the owner cheaped out to maintain its prices, so I was very pleased with the way Jason Matthew Salon looked and felt (and I've been to quite a few, since my ex was a stylist at several of the top salons in the Philly burbs). The large front window offers a gorgeous, scenic view of Chestnut Street where Di Bruno Brothers and several nice shops beacon from across the street. I was originally put off by the salon's second-floor entrance, but quickly became a convert when I saw the view. A second-story salon with a view is the ultimate environment to get your hair cut in downtown Philly. It feels a lot like New York City, my hometown.

I am heading on vacation and wanted to touch up my highlights before going. I came here after looking at the reviews about color and found the whole experience so upsetting that I have to leave a review to warn others. Three things really caused me to leave this 1-star review: 1) they charged me an extra $70 for "balayage foil" and gloss without consulting me, 2) the stylists were not nice at all, and 3) they tried tacking on extra services when I initially set the appointment. 1) Balayage highlights require no foil. I've had them before, I will likely get them again. I asked for highlights, not balayage, and foil was used for all my highlights. The cashier insisted that my hair was highlighted with balayage with foil and charged me $150 rather than the standard $110. An extra $30 was added for the gloss, when I did not ask for it. The current highlights also start about two inches from my roots, which means I will need to go back sooner for a touch up. 2) I tried numerous times to make conversation with my stylist as an hour and a half to spend in a salon is a lengthy amount of time. After responding curtly to my questions, she would go silent or prefer to speak with others in the salon instead. 3) When I initially called to make the appointment for highlights, I received an email confirmation of highlights with a haircut. Upon calling to say I didn't want the haircut, they asked if I would want a blow dry instead, which was included with the haircut but not the highlights. The blow dry was an extra $40, and since I was going to be heading to a workout class, I didn't want to get a blowout. The lady on the phone: "so you'll just walk out of the salon with wet hair?" Beware their rude demeanors and sneaky ways of charging extra services on that you never needed.

I've been needing my highlights & cut done during the week. I know it's tough these days for stylists and the days they work have to accommodate the the salon with COVID. I got an appointment with Jill, Goddess, yesterday Tuesday 10/19/20. She brought me back to life I have massive re-growth and now I'm BRIGHT !! Also she gave me the perfect cut .. thank you Jill for taking the time to foil me up, cut off my mess and style my hair beautifully

Came in today and Josh Demarco never seizes to amaze me. My hair looks better every time I come. He was honest when he told what I had to do to achieve the look I wanted 6 months ago. Josh is responsive to my requests. And teaches me how to properly style my hair at home. You can the best hair cut in the world but if your stylist doesn't teach you how to style it, there's no point. I've been here a handful of times now and the service and quality is consistent. Josh is intelligent at his craft and very professional. I would recommend anyone to this salon and if you had a bad experience, give them another try.

First off, the place feels big. Has nice calming music playing in the background so it's a pleasant experience visiting and even sitting in the chair for some time. The wash was about the same length of time as a wash from other places here in Chinatown, but somehow it was significantly more enjoyable. The people here know what they're doing, and my scalp feels much better than it did before, and I didn't even know if was feeling anything before. Cut was ~30 minutes, and $28 + tip. Overall, it's on the pricier end of what I've experienced so far in Chinatown, although not by much. However, the quality of the cut was much better than others. In other places, it feels a bit more rushed or cursory, but I felt like I was getting focused attention on my cut. He spent a lot of it actually in touch up and layering, which was good attention to detail. Honestly one of the best cuts I've gotten in Chinatown. Definitely beats out in quality over other mainstays like Kevin's, but at a slightly higher price point.

After trying another high-rated salon in Philly and having a hairdresser try and fail to thin out my very thick hair for two hours, I did some research and came across Salon JKU. Even though they don't don't have an online booking platform, it was fairly easy to make an email inquiry, then book a time within the week over the phone. I booked with Amelia, and was really glad I did. She asked a lot of good questions about what I was looking for, then talked me through what she was going for. I get my hair cut every 6 months, so I was really just looking for someone to take out weight and give my hair some shape. Amelia gave me a wonderful short haircut with a lot of movement and texture. Her cut was meticulous and she took out an incredible amount of weight, yet maintained volume and body. After our discussions about my typical haircare routine, she gave me a cut that looks good without any styling. I really appreciated that, because sometimes the cut looks amazing after it's all blown out, but it's not a look that I can ever recreate at home. A few days after my appointment, someone asked me how I styled my hair, and I told them I didn't style it at all. They couldn't believe it because it visually had so much volume! The pricing is higher than other places that I have been in Philly (I paid $100 + tip), but in my opinion, it was totally worth it for one of the best haircuts I've received.

So I went on the phila queens Facebook group and posted for Asian hair stylist recommendations for both cut and color and someone kindly recommended salon JKU to me and after looking at their Instagram and their stylist personal Instagram's I decided that this was the best salon for Asian hair given a lot of the stylist are of Asian descent. I got a full head balayage done by Memmi (@coloristmemmi) and haircut done by Chris Sotos. I cannot express enough how pleased I am with the results. PLEASE note this does not mean the salon is specialized in Asian hair only. I was the only Asian client in the salon yesterday. You definitely don't HAVE to be Asian to come here lol I just really really wanted my hair done by someone of Asian descent since I've never tried that before. Anyway, Memmi did such a good job and was so pleasant to talk to while she was doing my hair she really is an interesting person with such a cool backstory. Same goes for Chris, who I had many things in common with. I cannot wait to return to the salon for my next cut and or color. PLEASE take the time to see the huge transformation my hair underwent in the photos attached to this review. And also please check out their Instagram @salonjku because you will instantly want to go there too, like me. She smiled and agreed, and started cutting. In no time at all, she had cut the hair on one side of my head above my ear, which was the opposite of what I asked for, as I have a deformed right ear from decades of combat sports competition, and I wanted it concealed. As she had already ruined my hair on one side, I bit my tongue as she made the other side match it. I was absolutely furious, but what can a stylist do once they've taken too much off? Absolutely nothing. Now I am stuck with a haircut where my deformed ear is visible for the whole world to see because the stylist decided to give me that haircut that she wanted to give me instead of the one that I asked for. I paid for my haircut with a card and departed in a polite manner, but the moment I hit the sidewalk, I could no nothing but scream profanity as the realization that I couldn't cover my deformed ear kicked in. Now I am not only out $18, but I am stuck with a haircut which leaves me open to yet more questions along the lines of "What's wrong with your ear?" [Edit, I called the place and she offered me a refund, but this doesn't undo the damage she did to my personal appearance. I'll take the refund, but this review stands.] I grew the sides of my hair longer specifically to hide that ear, and the stylist decided that she knew better than me where my haircut was concerned, and forced her personal preferences onto my head. That stylist is very fortunate that I have superior control over my temper, because she has left me feeling disfigured with the haircut she gave me, and now that I'm home and trying to style this mess, I see that she couldn't even manage to trim my bangs straight, and the hair on one side is not symmetrical with the hair on the other side. With the mess she left me with, with my deformed ear exposed, I might just shave my head instead of putting up with this terrible thing she did to my head. I am so humiliated that I don't even want to be seen in public looking like this. I went in feeling good about myself and looking forward to the haircut I asked for, and I left with my self-esteem in the gutter. I get upset every time I catch my refection and see what she did to my appearance. I can't go out looking like this. In short, she was absolutely incompetent & unprofessional in providing a haircut according to the very simple instructions I gave her. She shouldn't be permitted to cut hair, and if she has a state license for cutting hair, it should be revoked. The only reason she's getting one star is because I can't give her zero stars. Attached to this review, you'll see two photos detailing how she couldn't even manage to cut my hair evenly. I could have gotten a better cut from a landscaper with a weed-whacker. There is absolutely no excuse for this, and no apology or refund can do undo the damage. I'll have to wear a hat until my hair covers my deformed ear again. Thanks to a stylist who doesn't listen, I get to wear a hat to cover my deformed ear now. As a craftsman and a business owner, I can tell you that this is not how a professional renders a service to a client. **Update** I spoke with the stylist on the phone a short time ago about the refund she told me she would give me, and instead of telling me when I could come down & get it, she began making all manner of excuses as to why she shouldn't refund my money. This is the kind of experience you can expect to have with this hair stylist: first she will ruin your hair, then she will justify her poor work and back-peddle out of any refund she's already offered you. I should have looked at the other 1-Star reviews of this place, because it seems that those people all had a very similar experience to mine. As a small business owner myself, I'm very enthusiastic about supporting small businesses, but not if they're run by incompetent, unprofessional people who refuse to accept accountability for the damage they do, or offer fair compensation in return for those damages.
