I'm not eating here simply from the health score. This place is near where I live and wanted to try it since I love BBQ, but the sanitation score turned me off. The biggest NO NO to me is raw food over ready to eat (RTE) . I'm posting this to tell people to look for the health scores too before going to ANY restaurant. Of interest to the beer drinker is a bucket full of bottles of beer. Additionally they offer a party venue in a section of the facility for you personal gathering. First time try to what we'd hoped would be a tasty BBQ spot to add to our local restaurant rotation. The BBQ we had was just average - perhaps a touch above 2 stars. This a very good sized sports bar atmosphere - lots of seating, TV's and large bar area with a good beer selection. We got right in and seated on a late Saturday college football afternoon. Although the menu is heavy on appetizers (wings and such), we went right to the sandwiches. Had "The Hammer" (Philly pork, bacon, cheese and sauce) and a pulled pork sandwich. Of the two, The Hammer was pretty tasty with the bacon adding some nice texture and flavor. The pulled pork was just OK - smoked just fine but really nothing special. Both sandwiches came with fries - the pulled pork had OK slaw on the side. The BBQ sauce on both sandwiches was pretty average as well, which had us scratching our heads about the menu's posted 75-cent upcharge for extra sauce. Really?? The apps on the menu looked interesting. Perhaps if we return (maybe in the summer for drinks on the outdoor deck) we'll give the pork nachos a try. Meats are smoked perfectly. For an appetizer, get the pig wings. They are like boneless wings, but pork and they are amazing. The pork/brisket nachos are also great. Enjoyed my time here and met the owner. I could tell he works hard at his craft. We had a golf outing and went with a large group that was served buffet. Usually this volume of food is not prepared as well right? Not here. Everything was done to my high standards. Pulled pork was awesome and the smoke was perfect. We had chicken legs cooked in a homemade bbq sauce. Excellent and different too. I think maybe less vinegar and more spices. I guess the kicker for me was afterwards. My husband and I thought we'd give this place a try - since we're frequently in the area. We stopped by on a Sunday afternoon to watch a football game and decided to have a beer and a bite to eat. We were pleasantly surprised by the decor/atmosphere (looks much better on the inside than the outside). Anyway, the waitress took our order for beer - and sandwiches. (They had a pretty good beer selection.) She brought us our beers promptly - but the food took a LONG time to get to us. When we received our food (mine was a pork sandwich - I forget what my husband ordered) - I was EXTREMELY turned off. The bread was soaked in grease/fat - to the point that it fell apart when I tried to pick it up. (If I would have squeezed it, oil would have dripped out. Seriously.) I tried to eat some of the meat with my fork, but it was just too greasy. Then - when I thought it couldn't get any worse, I bit down on something hard. I took it out - looked at it - and couldn't figure out what it was. It was round, grey-ish and hard. About the size of a marble. My husband (who grew up on a farm in Iowa) immediately groaned and said "Wow - it's a bone. Trust me, you don't want to know right now." (Apparently, a very low-grade cut of meat coming from somewhere on the pig that I would never want to eat.) When the waitress stopped back at our table, she noticed that I hadn't eaten any of the sandwich bun - and not much of the meat. She asked how everything was - and I told her that it was extremely greasy and that I couldn't eat it. She said she'd tell the Owner about it. (I believe that she did.) Well, long story short . . . no apologies given, no offers for substitutions, no adjustment to our bill. Didn't. even. bother. to. stop. by our. table! This might be an OK place to grab a beer - but DEFINITELY NOT FOOD. We certainly won't be back ever again!! (yech - shudder) read more
