Stopped in to try some wings! We split 12 wings, 1/2 grilled with buffalo garlic (my favorite) and 1/2 fried honey bbq. The wings are huge - super meaty, with good amount of sauce. They came out piping hot. The buffalo garlic was listed under hot sauces but it is not hot IMO. We had carrots and celery with blue cheese on the side. We had also ordered onion rings - they came out hot but we would skip them next time - kind of bland. The place was packed, so it was a little tough to get service but the staff was hustling. Our server was was very friendly and helpful when we were able to get her to our table. TomKen's gives typical Wisco neighborhood bar vibes, with lots of local memorabilia on the walls and several TVs with sports on. Fake spring has come to Milwaukee and it's time for me to explore the city more. I had a chance to get to West Allis on a recent weekend and decided to try TomKen's that I had heard good things about. I had passed by a couple of times when I was near the fairgrounds. TomKen's has classic sports bar vibes. They were busy when I visited on a Saturday afternoon. It took a little while to get my order in. But the people were nice and there was a Brewers game on TV and I didn't mind hanging out for awhile. I got the famous friendly chicken dinner. This was a 4-piece half chicken dinner with coleslaw, fries and Italian bread. It was a lot of food especially for the price. The chicken was juicy and the batter was nicely salty. The fries were the crinkle variety--nothing special on their own but a nice potato-ey complement to the chicken. The cole slaw was solid--a little sweet and not too mayonnaise heavy. One should not eat fried chicken every day of course, but I would definitely come back for a treat. read more

A well known MKE establishment, for good reason. We popped in on a Saturday evening & the place was bustling. Street parking was a bit difficult to find, so we parked down the block. We were lucky enough to find a high top table. We were greeted promptly & our drink orders were brought quickly. We decided to try the fried pickles-as an unofficial pickle connoisseur, these were some of the get best. The actual pickle was delicious, batter was light, the ranch was amazing. It was sprinkled with a delicious seasoning as well. We also ordered wings & chicken thighs. The wings (half battered/half grilled) were very tasty. We tried Buffalo wings the bleus & a special Hungarian sauce. Both were very tasty & not too spicy. We tried garlic Parmesan on the thighs. Decent experience - the food tasted different from what I remember of TomKens. I ordered wings and they were okay. Service was kinda bad. David and I have been to Points East Pub which I've heard it competes with (and we love Points East wings). Let's just say this, they were the meatiest wings we have ever had!! Service was very good and they were packed. Music was really loud- made it hard to have a conversation. Food just wasn't the same as 2 years ago when I was there. Asks for wings extra fried and crispy-not served that way. Our fries must have the end of the bag. Lots of small over fried nubs compared to people on both sides of us. Great neighborhood bar atmosphere. We ordered wings to go and we selected the following two flavors. The nutty rooster which is basically peanut butter sauce and sriacha. Really good and actually tastes better when reheated! It's not too hot and the combo works pretty well. We also got the buffalo garlic. That too was a pretty solid choice. This is a nice place to go get some fried chicken with a bar atmosphere. I like that this place specializes in fried chicken. Most of the bars here have your same old burgers and frozen tenders. Here it is different. You get the whole bar experience to watch a game and whatnot while also getting in some delicious food that's not your standard boring bar fare. We came here on a Thursday evening and boy were they packed! Service was a little slow because they were understaffed but watching the tvs makes the time go by faster. Been coming here for close to two years now. The wings are incredible! My sister and brother-in-law ordered the fried green beans on one occasion and I am hooked! Trust me, you can't eat just one (basket). They have regular favors and rotating flavors. My favorite are the honey bbq, Greek freak, and Insane Yellow Dragon, but honestly I have not had a flavor yet that I didn't like. Super busy, but found a table in the corner and was met by a waitress immediately which was almost unbelievable given the vibe of corner dive bar. Obviously came to try the wings and they surely did not disappoint. The sauces however left a little bit more to be desired, but as this was our first time we tried two on the side as a test. The buffalo had an almost sweet flavor similar to a Thai chili sauce and the bourbon bbq just was not our cup of tea. Still, the breaded wings them selves were great and I'm willing to bet their more traditional fried chicken dinners and unbreaded wings would be on that caliber. I was visiting and really wanted to try cheese curds because I heard that's like native to Wisconsin. So I was brought here for that and "the best wings ever", allegedly. Well, the wings stole the show so I'll give them that. I recommend the grilled buffalo garlic wings. The char on the grilled ones gives it a much better taste than breaded imo. JB3 was good too, a little sweet and spicy, not heavy on the jerk seasoning at all, unique flavor. I did not care for the garlic parm, it had no flavor, just greasy. Cheese curds were good, salty cheesy little bites, until they get cold then it gets a little funny rubbery texture so you gotta eat them fast. Sides were Caesar salad and crinkle fries--can't go wrong with that. Service was friendly. Definitely a dive bar kinda vibe and the music was pretty good too. I was pleasantly surprised to hear some hip hop. I guess it's family friendly as well bc I saw a whole family with child in there and it wasn't crowded or rowdy on a Thursday night. No, it's not the best wing place in the world for me. But they were good. Actually, what makes this place a 5 star joint were the thighs. These were seriously delicious! Really, really well fried - perfectly crunch on the outside and totally steaming moist inside. Their B3 sauce was really good, though probably not keto friendly. On the side option is perfect. We would totally go back to get their whole chicken. Something else that really makes the place AWESOME was the friendly service. Dorothy was simply perfect. Outstanding winds! We checked this place out during the great winter storm of 2024. We will definitely frequent this place for carry out as well. I would definitely recommend the Korean sauce on the boneless as they were our favorite out of the options. They do rotate different sauces so we will definitely continue to check out the different options they bring in! Yet to try the bone-in wings so can't wait to go back. We sat down and were ignored for 15 minutes by the bartender because she was doing shots with her friends, socializing and checking her phone. When she did finally come over she got smart with me and told me I had to wait so long because those were her friends. The bar was empty except for us and her friends so she was not busy or overwhelmed. We have been in here twice before and she had been working. She gave us incorrect drinks and poor service then but luckily there were other bartenders working that picked up her slack and fixed her mistakes. My sister was craving wings, so after we finished our clients we searched wings near us. We were both very happy Tomken's was where we ended up. It was apparently unusually slow, so we had a pretty relaxed experience. The 2 people working were both very friendly, and we chose to just grab seats at the large bar. It looked like they had a handful of taps to choose from and plenty of liquors. I just had water and my sister had a sprite, because noon. There were a good number of longer tables available, so seems like a good place for a group to come. You can choose grilled or fried chicken for the wings and the guy behind the bar suggested fried for the jerk dry rub and the peach Buffalo and it was a delicious choice. I think we agreed the jerk was the fave. I could have used a little more heat, but the flavor was very good. The wedges were also pretty good. We ended with the fried cheesecakes.
