We had a very unpleasant experience with this establishment. From a revolving door of teachers to…read morethe absence of communication from staff and administration, much was lacking at Central Montessori. The communication issues were evident from the start. We never received a school calendar or got added to the mailing list upon enrollment, so we were surprised with several school closures in our initial time there. Over the course of roughly six months, the teachers were unable to follow through on the meager commitment of one short note per week to let us know how our child was doing in class. We had no idea what he was doing during the day and eventually he returned home with language and behavior consistent with a complete lack of Montessori principles being used in the classroom. ("I'm a bad kid... I'm going to sit in the corner....etc.) After voicing concern about multiple changes in teacher with no notification, the director told me the new assistant teacher wasn't certified, didn't have the requisite experience, but was "super interested in teaching Montessori." At this point, I started enquiring about our location of waitlists elsewhere. It is clear that Central knows they have parents trapped due to the lack of options for childcare in the area, because they let the disorganization and unprofessionalism continue. We eventually could tell that our child was not receiving the care or education we were promised, so we found a new school where he is absolutely thriving. I sincerely hope that a change in leadership can turn the tide at Central for the sake of the other children and families still enrolled.

What drew me to RWS was their philosophy around educating the whole child. The skills that children learn in a Waldorf program are designed to build a healthy, educated whole individual. You can teach a child very specific skills at any school. Waldorf is helping to develop and nurture children's natural curiosity which is something that can't be found in a textbook. A curious child that is nurtured becomes a life long learner. Not everyone is familiar with the Waldorf education and it's fundamentals. The standard of education is very poor. Our children were not allowed to read until 2nd grade. This alone makes it hard for your child to get into any other school if you try to leave this school. Starting at 2 years old they get to go the gym to work on Gross Motor Skills, each day. This is in addition to going outside to the playground. There is no other program that focuses on the Gross Motor Skills starting at such a young age. In addition, there is music, life skills, special events put on by the school to make the families feel included (Family Night, Donuts with Dads, Muffins with Moms, Christmas programs with the family, and so many more). I recently took a Adult Beginner's Sewing Class: Level 1 at Sew Fun. I have been eager to take a…read moresewing class and found a lot of local adult art classes near me fill up quickly. So I was really excited when I found this sewing lesson shop. It was $125 for three classes. I took Monday evening classes that were meant to be slotted for 2 hours, but our sweet teacher would go earlier and stay later to let us finish the projects. Do know that this is not a true beginner class. I wish they noted that you want to take machine fundamentals before, but as a beginner I was lost a lot of the time. Our class felt like it had way too many students at times, because our teacher took a 1:1 approach and sometimes you'd be waiting for her help for a while. This does not affect my review, but our poor teacher got sick before the second class, so there was a lot of rescheduling. She did her absolute best to accommodate us which was really kind. I wish in the Level 1 we got an overall explanation of how to do things so we weren't left lost and waiting for our teacher to help us. Do know that a good amount of the tools here are well loved. On my second class, I ended up at two broken machines and wasn't able to finish my project that night. Thankfully the teacher let me come early the third class to finish it. Each class you create a new project. We made a tote bag, a zipper pouch, and a little bucket kitchen bag. I think if I went in knowing more about the machine I would've had a better experience. If you're a true beginner, be sure to take fundamentals beforehand or learn machine basics first.
