I've driven by here on many trip to Reading and decided to stop on my way home last week. I bought…read morebeautiful tomatoes here, both heirloom and beefsteak varieties which were delicious. I also bought some juicy cling peaches, a tasty little cantaloupe, and a beautiful fresh cut sunflower. They also had string beans, honey, cherries, corn and many other things and shoo fly pie was available for purchase. I noticed you could buy individual slices. The service was friendly. As many have mentioned the parking lot is tight, and I'd advise leaving on US 222 North as trying to go south out of there could prove difficult. I will definitely stop again when I'm in the area.

So after driving by this produce stand on 222 for the past more years than I can remember, the…read morechildren finally convinced me to make a stop on the way back from playing some mini golf at Schell's. The parking area is no more than a small dirt spot, small enough that I can't seriously call it a lot, that can fit only a few cars and you really need to think about the angle you park on because getting back out onto 222 during busier traffic times will be interesting, i.e. deadly, if you have to try to back out or attempt some other similar nonsense. You also can't miss the old wooden signs that they have all along 222 North advertising everything from Shoo Fly Pie, Raisin Pie, Whoopee Pie and all of the various produce items that they are currently selling. Also worth noting is that the location that Yelp has them listed at currently, 222 Pleasant Hill Road in Berks County PA, is of course wrong as they are at the intersection of Pleasant Hill Road and Route 222 in Fleetwood. I've sent in links that show what their official address is per the Yellow Pages but you know how things work with Yelp. Inside the stand they have several tables of produce (potatoes, tomatoes, peaches, watermelon, cantaloupe, honey, cucumbers, zucchini, etc.) along with various arts/crafts items and even a small area with things like pot holders and quilts. There is also a fridge with milk, eggs, and a few drinks and desserts. The only thing worth noting is that the staff are not big on talking with us Englishmen so don't be put off if you are not always greeted or if they are a little awkward if you ask a question about a product. Just let what they sell do the talking and you'll be happy with what you got.

I love to bake and cook, so although this quaint, unassuming store was a bit of a drive, I happily made it on a regular basis when living in PA. It's out in the middle of the country...let's put it this way, you wouldn't run into it while out and about! I see they now have a website which includes a charming history of this family-owned business dating back to 1955 when the current owner's father purchased the property, as well as where the name "Echo Hill" comes from! I believe almost all the employees are family and everyone is always friendly and helpful. Granted, I haven't been here since moving out of state in 2020 and from reading some of the reviews, it seems their prices (like everyone else's) have increased, but this store always had the biggest selection of grains, flours, nuts, and spices, as well as packaging for homemade food gifts. I always found their selection and pricing to be awesome and worth the drive!

Some pork chops, some chopped onions, the entire can of mushrooms and a little cream. A few sprinkles of salt and pepper and whatever else I could find in the spice rack and it started to smell like a something. The mushroom quality was perfect. Despite being canned, they were in very good condition with no duds and nothing extra. From their website, "The Giorgio name goes back to 1928 when Pietro Giorgi built his first mushroom houses in Temple, Pennsylvania. It was the beginning of a proud and long-standing tradition of growing high-quality mushrooms -- a tradition that the third generation carries on at Giorgio. Today, we are a multi-faceted company and one of the largest growers of mushrooms in the world. Giorgio has been "America's Favorite Mushroom" year after year, by upholding the family tradition of excellence and by implementing the innovative "continuous improvement" management philosophy called Kaizen. The Giorgio culture has been rooted in Kaizen for decades and it's why Giorgio's people and reputation are unmatched in the industry." America's favorite? Well, Giorgio's mushrooms are certainly my favorite and will be on a shelf in my pantry going forward. [Review 15037 overall, 539 of 2021, number 554 in Pennsylvania.]
