Love this place, donuts and kolaches hit the spot after visiting family on way to NOLA.

My family and I swung in here for donuts this morning. All baked goods were executed to perfection. It was busy as you'd expect on a Saturday morning. The owners were there overseeing operations. They were friendly and very gracious. My daughter loved the inflatable sharks they displayed, I assume because it's shark week. The kolaches were dynamite. We also got donut holes, 2 glazed, and 3 blueberry cake donuts. All were fantastic. I highly recommend Rickey Meche's Donut King. They do it right. read more

The donuts were incredibly fresh, soft and full of flavor without being overly sweet. There was a great selection to choose from, and everything looked tempting. At The original Meche's i stopped in for supplies for a morning meeting with 27 attending. What a donut factory, friendly and efficient AND delicious ! I purchased 30 kolaches and 3 dozen glazed donuts. The kolaches were the big hit (i sampled the ham and cheese - delicious ) as they were gone in 10 minutes! The most overrated business/donut in this area. And don't get me started on the "king cake". IT'S NOT A KING CAKE. It's just donut with Mardi Gras sprinkles on it. Whomever invented actually king cake should sue Meche's because they shouldn't be allowed to call it a king cake. If you want a real, authentic king cake try Great Harvest Bread Co. or something because what Meche's makes is honestly just a donut. It's a joke and they should be ashamed of themselves. Wow! Growing up in New Orleans, I've had my fill of King Cake and am rarely impressed, but Meche's did just that. It's a donut shop so there's no frills, but between the service, made sure I knew what my potions were as well as extra wrapping as I was traveling with the King Cake, and the King Cake itself, it was a treat, plus the price was very reasonable. Should you find yourself in Lafayette during Carnival time, do yourself a favor and stop in for a treat. read more

Meche's has some amazing donuts. I thought KK was beat until I had these original glaze donuts that melted in my mouth! My mouth instantly watered from the smell of the donuts. The staff member we interacted with kept getting our order wrong but we eventually got what we needed. I strongly advise you to go early so you can get all the goodies that they offer. We wanted a boudin kolache but they were all sold out of them all. I can't wait to return to Meche's the next time I'm in the area! read more

I am only giving three stars because this place has the cutest decorated donuts for every holiday! However, today I went in and got the cutest Easter donuts, and I was so excited to bring them home and put them out for the Easter party until I open the box and noticed she had crammed 11 big donuts into a medium sized box! I have not been on site to Meches. But, I have ordered King Cakes two years in a row. Their cakes are exceptional. Bavarian creme has been my choice. I shared a piece with a friend who makes gourmet cookies that she sells. Her response, " this is the best cake I have ever eaten". So I cannot say enough how good those cakes are. Not so good for the hips. The only downside is the shipping. It costs more to ship than the cake. But they are excellent and survive shipping well. Can't wait till next year!! read more

Incredible, amazing, life-changing and spectacular are all words I would use to describe this place. I drive over an hour to get here twice a year to get king cakes from them. They're my favorite king cakes in the whole state of Louisiana! I love how they're deep fried with great texture and the icing is perfect! My favorite is the chocolate filled king cake! I have always loved these donuts and being from out of town was so excited to be back here and have my kids try them. They would have been amazing if they hadn't smushed them all together in a tiny box ruining the frosting. They were a sloppy mess and we couldn't even eat them. The best donut shop around! A must stop if you are in Lafayette. The donut holes are spectacular and they definitely give you more than you order which is awesome. The regular donuts are also wonderful and very tasty. If you visit, you have to try the shredded chicken kolache or the smoked sausage and jalapeño kolache as they are to die for. Went completely out of my way to come here even called to make sure they would be open after seeing everyone say they close before there bis hours. They may have good donuts, but their king cakes are the best! My last visit here, my husband and I picked up a couple of pre-made king cakes to share at the office. Their king cakes come in two sizes...big and bigger. We got two of the smaller ones that were half and half fillings. One was half chocolate and half bavarian cream; the other was half chocolate and half raspberry cream cheese. Both were good, but the raspberry cream cheese part knocked my socks off! Surprisingly, the chocolate was my least favorite. I was hoping it would be creamy and pudding-like, like the bavarian cream, but it's more like an icing. Not bad, of course, just not what I was expecting. They cost us $43 for two, with tax. We were introduced to Meche's during our first Mardi Gras experience 2 years ago, it was the first King Cake we had ever had. After a week in Lafayette and New Orleans, we had tried a few different cakes. Meche's was our favorite. Since we couldn't get down south this year, we threw a Mardi Gras party up here and ordered our favorite King Cake from Meche's. They shipped it to arrive the day before the party, it was sealed perfectly, and tasted super fresh. Used to be my favorite and only place I would ever buy a king cake. I moved states so I had it shipped this year and was extremely disappointed. I checked extra filling and there was hardly any filling whatsoever in it. It was very dry and not worth the money. Sad they even gave extra filling as an option only to totally ignore it. Absolutely just straight up GOOD. King Cake season here is where it's at and it can be extremely busy and I can see why. The King Cakes are moist, flavorful and never too sweet. Outside of King Cake season, the kolaches and filled donuts are a hit. Kolaches are always filled with plenty of cheese and whatever you may have chosen plus it's always super fresh and hot when it is served. The donuts are also a hit and again not overly sweet. Other selection vary from any kind of donut and treat offered at any donut joint plus more. The prices are very affordable and I can easily see myself making Meches a part of my breakfast routine every now and then. After a sad meal down the road from these guys, we stopped to pick up donuts for the family. Meche's is new to us. We soon found out why they are a Lafayette favorite. Service was quick and friendly.
