Wow, wow, wow!! My taste buds were singing a song of worship after this stop!!! The Croissants are so light flaky and buttery, it fused with the ham and cheese for a celebration. It was small but mighty! Next let's just say you could share a black n white with a friend, but I took one for the team and powered through!!! We were ignored, we had to ask for help while several teenage girls saw us needing assistance and did not acknowledge us. When we asked for help, we were met with attitude and resistance to help. This is an adorable bakery with a ton of options. They had a whole case of just Christmas cookies. They have single serving desserts and whole pies/cakes. They also have some bread/sandwich items that looked really tasty. I almost grabbed some frozen soup to bring home with me. The gator pasta was super cute as well! I grabbed some LA hot sauce for myself and as a gift. I ended up buying 9 or so items and an very pleased. I always love to ask whoever us helping me what they recommend and get a combo of what looks good and their recs. The guy helping me was great and gave me solid recs. The first time we had to witness a guy and girl make out and flirt with each other behind the counter and not wait on anyone. We had to ask them if someone was going to wait on us. It was the happiest accident ever. This place is not only a culinary delight but a visual delight as well. The array of colors immediately grab your attention. Of my! Tarts, macaroons, beautiful little pies, and baked confections delight your eyes. I spent an hour just looking around, and I had to try really hard not to buy one of everything. Of course we had to sit down and try some of their coffee with a breakfast sandwich. Superb. They also have authentic French sandwiches made with delicious meats and their chicken salad is a treat too. You will also find a ton of local frozen food in their freezer to take home. Poupart's has quickly become my go-to for comfort sweets in Lafayette. I can't comment on the authenticity of it being a French bakery since I'm not that cultured, but seems pretty legit to me! This might sound weird, but my favorite thing to get from there is their sweet potato biscuit. It's always fresh, warm, and perfectly crumbly yet moist. It's got the perfect hint of honey on it. I keep telling myself sweet potato and honey means that it's healthy. Other than that, I don't care too much for their cookies, but all of their cakes and other baked goods are wonderful. I'm always shocked by the total when I go to check-out. You really can't beat their prices. If you pay with cash, it's a 10% discount. They charge a small extra fee for paying with cards. Overall, I definitely recommend Poupart's if you like bakeries. Just make sure you save a sweet potato biscuit for me because they don't always have that many available! read more

We have always looked forward to receiving a King Cake during Mardi Gras season for the past eight years...the donut-style, cinnamon-filled, sugar-coated circle of goodness was a one of a kind, But that was THEN! Now? I received my first cake, tampered with, stale, literally NO filling, and the baby falling out of the cake before even opening the wrapping. So, I messaged the bakery, and to their credit, they sent another one promptly. But it was still stale, no filling (although they got this order wrong and it had nuts, which we do not prefer and never had before), and heavily coated with sugar. For $69, I will say that we will never buy another one from this bakery. My guess is that they are under new management and that family has changed the recipe. But we are done...until they bring back the original. read more

I visited Poupart's during my evacuation from NOLA during Hurricane Zeta. I was only looking for a decent croissant but what I found was so much more! When you walk into Poupart's you immediately see bread to your left, cookies in front of you and macarons to your right. They even have a couple of refrigerators and freezers with sandwiches, cheeses and bisque to purchase. As I walked further down the aisle, I found cakes, cupcakes and dozens of additional sweet pastries. I think it took me a good 20 minutes to decided what I wanted because everything looked great. I ended up leaving with a loaf of bread, a gingerbread cookie, a macaron, cinnamon roll, apple pie and some mini cakes. Everything was delicious except for the wedding cake macaron. Would definitely return again. P.S. There's a 4% tax for using a credit/debit card so use cash if you can. read more

I have one complaint I'll save for the end because overall I was more than satisfied. I ordered two Poupart's king cakes for my wedding reception as groom's cakes. My wife is from Ft. Worth, TX and that's where we were married, so I wanted a little piece of home there. We got so many compliments on the flavor of the cakes; they were spot on. Additionally, they arrived right on time, so that's a huge credit to Poupart's as well. That was a little over two weeks ago, and now with Mardi Gras approaching, I've ordered another king cake to share with my coworkers (I work in Colorado, I know I'm all over the map). Now for my one complaint: In Fort Worth, the delivery guy walks up to the door with the boxes clearly labelled "Fragile", "Cakes Inside", and "Keep Upright!", and he's holding the boxes sideways under his arm. He pulls them out and shakes them a little saying, "Are these cakes or something?" Seriously? The cakes were a mess. Thankfully a friend of my wife's is a wedding planner, so she took it upon herself to clean them up and refrost them. In the end, they looked pristine, and I recognize this issue isn't Poupart's fault, but if it were me, I would find a better company to do these deliveries because FedEx is making their cakes look terrible.
