Marcus and his assistant, Devon, came out yesterday to repair our back deck. The deck was built 20…read moreyears ago without professional guidance, so some of the woodwork was kind of wonky. The top part of the deck, made from teak, is still fine, but all the rails (aside from the main supports) and bottom of the stairs were pine, so many of those parts needed replacement due to wood rot. Additionally, the slats that framed around the porch weren't attached properly, so Marcus took them all off and reattached them correctly and securely. He also removed an electrical outlet that wasn't working and capped off the wiring. The baseboards were also replaced with PVC. It was a full-day project, and these guys worked hard. I can't say enough for their professionalism--from the quality work they did (plus explaining everything to me), and beginning and ending the day with cordial words. Such politeness is not a give in these days. The day began with a friendly greeting and ended in the evening with, "Have a nice night," not to mention polite interactions throughout the day. They also cleaned up perfectly, removing all the old wood. Even though they went beyond what we discussed, and Marcus did the extra work (wooden slats that weren't attached properly and a piece of wood behind the stairs that was replaced with PVC which we hadn't talked about initially) Marcus stuck to his original estimate. ***I would recommend these guys without reservation.*** I will also add that their pricing was very fair with an estimate given ahead of time. One with a tear off of the original roof, one with shingles right over the existing roof and estimates with and without our outbuilding. A complete description of the shingle products followed and we were allowed to keep some of the sample colors for a few days to make sure we chose the right one. The estimates were not the cheapest and not the most expensive, they were just right. We signed the contract and scheduled the work. The crew consisted of a few hard working, courteous men who cleaned up all the debris when they were done. The roof was done quickly and looked great. We even had a chimney inspection done after the new roof was put on and everything around the chimney was in perfect condition and sealed up properly, according to the inspector. I would highly recommend them. In fact, someone from my neighborhood hired them after our roof was done and so did a co-worker. Both had commented on the high level of professionalism and the great job that they did.

The house is from 1908 and the walls were challenging to get the tile installed and look perfect. Tony was definitely the right person for this job. He left the job areas clean and worked quickly coming every day including weekends to complete the job. His company is definitely the one to use for any tiling work.

I have friends who have had them build both of their homes and the homes are lovely. The attention to detail and follow up is second to none. And the finished product? Breathtaking. Old world craftsmanship in today's throw away world. In my case- I needed to have an old home rebuilt with new brick work, a new porch, balcony and stairs. Even more difficult was that it was located in Wisconsin and with me being in Chicago, I had to trust that the work was getting done, on time and on budget. And I couldn't be more pleased with the finished product. My old house looks like new . . .better than new. The brick work is impeccable, the blending of old and new seamless, and they even fixed a framing problem that they found when they took a section of the porch apart. Our window started leaking after the other contractor finished the siding project. When we tried to contact the other contractor, he would not return our many calls, texts, or emails. We tried to contact a couple other companies (including the company that originally installed our windows) for help, but no one wanted to get involved or would help us because they did not want to be liable for the other contractor's work. Shaun Murphy (owner of Murphy's Exterior Construction) just happened to be working on a project at our neighbor's house during this same time period. We asked him to come over to look at the work that was completed on our house and he immediately started pointing out significant issues with the way the siding was installed. He also immediately reassured us that he would help us and would complete any necessary repairs. Shaun had to come up with a unique way to fix our windows to prevent future damage, since the other contractor had done such a horrible job and had ruined all the trim around our windows. Shaun repaired all the issues with our house shortly thereafter, which avoided significant damage that would have happened to our house had these repairs not been completed. He is very reliable and does amazing work. He even agreed to help us when we told him that we may need him to testify on our behalf against the other contractor in a lawsuit. I would highly recommend Murphy's Exterior Construction!!

Fast forward to Ricky at Garage Door Pro who went above and beyond to research for options outside of his normal network. He ended up finding a Harmonn model that fit the bill, which was more reasonably priced. The new supplier had a delay and shipping issues that weren't Ricky's fault but he constantly kept tab on things for us. After a couple of months, the door arrived and Ricky delivered/installed it within a week in less than 4 hours. It came with a fresh door track, trim and other parts. So far, we haven't had any issues and I don't anticipate any but we have a 90-day service warranty and 3 year product warranty. I decide to call Clear Flo again, figuring there was always a chance that it might be something that could be repaired. Bryan made an appointment, called to say he would be a few minutes late. When he arrived, he immediately checked the circuit breaker (my first guess, too), then removed a small panel on the water heater, pushed a red button, and the problem was solved. Total charge: $0.
