I recently had cause to take the Concord Trailways bus from Bangor to Portland. My wife was making…read morea long drive north and I was going to meet her in Portland to take over the last two hours of driving in Maine. And if we could hang out in Portland for a while also, that was a bonus. I went online to check into the cost and details. I saw that buses left Bangor for Portland about every two hours. (Greyhound only seemed to have one mid-morning trip available.) My ride to Bangor was going to land me at the station just 15 minutes ahead of departure, so I ordered the ticket for 7 a.m. The ticket is not easily refundable, but I saw that seats were not assigned and the ticket would be good for any trip to Portland. (Though later I wanted to double check that, and that info was only in one place on their site and hard for me to find. My only minor complaint about the ticket process.) So I arrived 15 minutes before departure and got right in line, so I didn't have to sweat out going inside to buy a ticket. Therefore, I can't report on the inside of the Bangor station at all, since I didn't see it. 30 seconds before we left, a young guy jumped out of a vehicle and ran over to board. He slept all the way to Portland, so I guess he had a rough night. But he made it! The bus itself was terrific. The seat was comfortable and with ear buds ai brought I listened to classical music, while others watched local CBS television. There is a charging station at your elbow so I charged my devices as I used them. The seat beside me was empty until Augusta, when I obtained a seat mate to Portland. But unlike with plane seats, there was enough room for me not to feel crowded in. I didn't see any free water or anything as some reviewers mention, but perhaps that is for those extending farther south than Portland. The transportation center in Portland is large, clean and safe. There are vending machines and clean rest rooms. If you've a mind to, you can also board the Northeaster train from here for trips to Boston or Brunswick. Or a bus to Boston, of course. I would not hesitate to use Concord's bus service if the need ever arises.

Station can get you taxi services, Bangor Transit System, Down East Transportation and so forth & place does package express services, interline tickets with other carriers & such so might be small but be careful on assumption.

We stumbled upon this company's advertisement sign just 4 minutes before pulling into our AirB&B at 2am, and it ended up being the absolute highlight of our trip. We booked a small plane with pilot Neal who was fantastic! He was very well trained, accommodating, highly thorough and informative with all things Maine and sea related, and we explored 12 lighthouses and beautiful remote islands from a breathtaking perspective above. Jaimie took us all places that were in SK books, tidbits about his own life and how his dad bought the Best Bookstore that is now Patty's Pub and Mr. King would do book signings there. Be sure to ask Jamie about house #19 next to his parents house. I liked SK a little but now after this tour I like him a lot!!! We now want to read all the SK books so we can see it through SK's eyes and see the places we visited in our minds. We do hope to be back this way in the future and will take this tour again! The tour was absolutely phenomenal from start to finish. Not only do you get an incredible, deep-dive look into the life and inspiration of the King of Horror himself, but they also weave in fantastic history and local lore about Derry/Bangor. It turns out the town has just as much character as the books it inspired! Fun side note: I'm pretty sure I checked over my shoulder for Pennywise at least twice, but don't worry - the only thing truly scary about this tour is the thought of missing out on it! Sean, the owner, is so friendly and will work to make your stay very pleasant. He secured my friend and I a very early check-in, let us use the laundry typically reserved for their maid staff, and had plenty of treats for my friend's dog. He also gave us recommendations for local restaurants, which turned out to be great. The room was basic but comfortable, and the AC really worked well, which was key after long days hiking in Acadia. Would not hesitate to stay again!

It was our most expensive room on our 8 day road trip and our least-nice, as well. The bed was wildly uncomfortable, and the room definitely needed a little TLC (maintenance wise. Cleanly wise, it was very well taken care of.) Overall though, we would stay here again, it just would've been nicer to have a comfort spot to sleep after a full day of traveling.
