Absolute WORST experience I've had in a very, very long time. After being checked in, my family…read more(three children and 3 adults) went down to get our floats, got in the water and started to float (no staff was there to help or assist like any other rafting or float place I've been), the staff said it would take about 5 hours (it took 6) - the wind was against us that day and I had to essentially pull us the entire 2 miles - all the while being blown back in the opposite direction. There was brush all along the bottom of the river slowing everyone down. When we finally got to the end, we had to ask someone that happened to be fishing where the exit ramp was. No signage, no staff to help, but a missed call from the front office asking where we were. When we finally got up the ramp, I called and they seemed annoyed and surprised we were 20 minutes after the last group. The driver was quiet and acted mad that he had to come get us, upon check out the lady up front said we had to pay a fee because we were 20 mins "late" (no mention of this in person or anywhere physically visible) - how in the heck can we help the river being low and the wind working against us? $300 plus $60 late fee turned our trip into a nightmare. They need staff in the water guiding/assisting, which they don't have, in case something does happen. Main takeaway - DO NOT GO HERE. It's terrible and the staff seemed annoyed that they even had to be there. JUDGING FROM THE REVIEWS, THEY DON'T CARE WHAT YOU THINK - actually scan thru and read them, but read the RESPONSES from Cape Fear River Adventures as well - GO TO "LOWEST" up top under "SORT BY" and read them ALL - these are normally buried so far down that people don't see them. Many reviews are super similar and it's definitely obvious that they don't take criticism well AT ALL - keep that in mind too! STAY AWAY. This place gives Lillington a bad name.

Parking is available for $7, make sure to get your parking voucher when you pull in. They take cash and credit cards. Then after you park, you will go meet the boat at the loading dock. David is the tour guide and he knows a lot of the history of Jordan Lake and will point out the wildlife. I believe he has been giving tours for 19 years now. We saw bald eagles, osprey, cormorants, among others. I liked learning about the dam and how that operates. It was relaxing on the water and nice to get away from things for a little while.

That's why I was so intrigued when I heard about the Freedom Boat Club at Jordan Lake (which is the closest body of water to me). I describe it to my friends as a "country club for boats". Like a country club you have an initiation fee and a monthly maintenance. But that gives you hassle-free access to a fleet of boats. Your ownership experience amounts to nothing more than reserving your time online, showing up at the lake at the designated time, having a blast out on the water, and then when the day is done handing the keys back to the dock crew and driving away. As far as cost is concerned I compared the cost of the boat club to what I was paying for Hurricanes season tickets. It turned out that 1 year of the Canes tickets would pay for several years of Freedom Boat Club - that was a no-brainer for me. Finally, the staff at FBC are great. They help you carry your stuff to and from the car to your boat, see you off and most importantly to me, are out on the dock waiting for me when I come in to help me pull into the slip. When my 3 boys entered their teenage years I was looking for ways to stay connected to them, and activities on the lake were a great fit. Tubing, knee-boarding (and later on wake-boarding) became a fun way to get them outside and active. They looked forward to having friends out there with them, and were happy to have Dad out there driving the boat and keeping things safe. As a guy with very little practical boating experience, the Freedom Boat Club allowed me to create great times and memories with my family.

Note that you cannot fish off the deck. Why have I not visited this lake before?? I have passed by it several times and decided to stop and enjoy my breakfast here on a gloomy morning. The lake has benches on the grass near the shore, ample parking, trash cans, lost and found, restrooms, water fountains, dog waste stations, posted rules, weight scale, and marked trails. The retreat center has a large, clean deck with picnic tables and umbrellas. The deck provides a beautiful view of the lake and plenty of bird sounds (mainly from the geese). Inside they have resources and reptiles. Excellent area in Holly Springs to learn, exercise, fish, and appreciate nature.

Kept asking personal questions and wouldn't move along so we ended up leaving. On holidays or when the weather is nice it they can fill up. The cost is around $6 per car during peak seasons and free to use most of the off season. Bring your own food and drinks. There is a lot of parking here although it does get busy in the summer, especially on Holidays. Directly across HWY64 is "Parker's Creek Recreation Area". Your day pass covers all parks so keep the receipt in case you want to visit another one of Jordan Lake's recreation areas. Parker's Creek recreation area offers deeper swimming waters and campgrounds.

After…read morea bit over an hour long car ride heading east of Winston-Salem, we found ourselves unloading our fishing boat at the dock of B. Everett Jordan Lake. Everyone there was so friendly, quick to wave as you passed them by while zipping over the waters. The beauty of this place - from the flora to the fauna - is breathtaking; perfect location for camping, fishing, swimming and/or water sports fanatics such as myself. Even the wildlife (falcons, cranes, etc.) will stun you.... in the best way! Whatever (ahem) floats your boat, if you're looking for a quiet, serene location to escape the insanity, Jordan lake is definitely it! My friends (seen pictured upon the boat, in the background) didn't believe me when I said I would dive into the deepest end of the lake and swim my way back to shore... so these selfies snapped are proof of my claims! Hopefully, next time we return they'll be brave enough to join me in making a splash!!
