It is definitely a Build-A-Bear for cars. The people are super friendly and it's pretty easy to understand what's going on because you just go from like one area to the next. The actual cars are pretty cheap most of them being $29.99 but everything gets really expensive quickly. If you want to make it a RC which who doesn't that is an additional price. Luckily my kids did not go for any of the other fancy stuff besides the rims and the guy working with super friendly and was understanding and helpful of my son who had a cast. read more

I saw a coupon for the store. My kid can name car makes and models from 60's to now. Yeah, he's almost 7, and has seen all 11 Fast and Furious movies - he's on another level. 1. Out the door final cost before coupon, $110.00 Components purchased: Top Body, SRT Challenger (it's gotta Hemi!), BASIC R/C package**, tires, rims, blower motor, underglow and side pipes. I used a $10 coupon. 2. We all know we are paying for the memories with our kids. Questions you want answered: Cars can be sold as basic, free rolling cars, OR as R/C cars*** #1 6xAA batteries, lowest speed car. #2 A rechargeable battery pack option, faster, etc. #3 A best rechargeable bat pack, fastest car. Extras were: blower motor, under glow/pipes, R/C package #1 (vs. A free rolling, push car.) Must buys were: rims, tires, body top, bottom chasis (free roll or R/C). The top body was $30. TBVFH, my kid has a walmart F&F drift car and hand me down RCR, 3 cell LiPo, that'll rip your face off at 60mph, so this car was for the memory. Like 'Build-A-Bear', but for kids who love cars. The Ridemakerz car remote control has a "turbo" button, giving a bit more torque, and lighting on off on button. It does make sounds. This performance of this car (***R/C Pkg #1) is no better than your $15.00 R/C car. Yes, those crappy ones. I don't think it has steering alignment lever, and it pulls to the left. We got treaded tires, and it doesn't drift unless youre on ice. You can buy slicks, but the torque doesn't allow you to truly drift, but rather "donut". The steering radius/angle is terrible. If wheels are straight, full turn left or right is no more than 15-20°. If this was his first R/C ever, I would've gotten the #3 package and a rear spoiler for my son, but as I said, it was for the memory. To me, the car's performance is absolute trash. Your kid walks around with a basket, and picks the stuff they want. The only thing with a price tag is the top body. Then you go to the assembly area (see pic). An employee partially assembles some components. They 'start' the screws for the child (4 coarse threaded screws for plastic), so they don't cross thread them. Once all is kid proofed, they do a Pit Stop Challenge, and time your kid when they assemble it. 4 screws with zip gun. 4 rims to tires. Then put them onto car. We, had to remove hood center piece and pop on blower. Slide side pipes into undercarriage, which had basic circuitry to allow for underglow to be powered on. Oh, and for some reason, the blower motor is held into the front hood via a crappy magnet, so when dude crashes, it flies off. I see some JB weld in this cars future. If my son was 7 years old, I would've given a hard NO to this purchase, simply bc the car is verging on toddler cartoony BS. Did I see older boys in there making cars? Yes, but for $50 more, you can buy a ready to go, Hobby Grade, R/C car that'll make any elementary school kid drool. This store would pull more $ if they had a "teenager/dad" option. Faster. More realistic, less cartoony. If you are on a budget, F this place. If your kid is bright, and ahead of the rest, skip this place and go buy a starter Traxxas ($150), or find one used on the market place. This store and purchase are super subjective. Price is absolutely DUMB. What dad sees is trash. What son sees is fkg gold. Your call. read more

This is my personal experience from going, I'm not sure if it happens often but they didn't let you do much on your own. They kind of took over the entire experience part of it from me and that was the whole point in my opinion. He kept taking the things back from me and would drill the screws in for me as if i was a toddler who couldn't handle it....I'm a 22 year old female. Shortly after i watched them let a small boy do the entire thing by himself and that frustrated me alot. It was very rushed and when i spoke to a person about it all i got was "sorry their new". Second trip here and both times were amazing. I have a 3 year old son who LOVES cars and anything to do with them. This is so much better for boys then build a bear! When we went in on a Sunday, both guys that were there were able to help everyone out in a quick way. The wait was not long at all and they were so great with the kids. We made cars here a little over a week ago with our oldest 2 sons totaling over 100$ for two cars and both cars have had stuff break off of them that can't be fixed. If your going to charge that much for a car + add ons I expect it to last longer than a week. I was hoping these would be toys that would last them a while... clearly not. It's a shame had they actually been good quality I could have seen us coming back numerous times, unfortunately they were not. I am the biggest fan of this place!!! I took my boys here to make cars and it was so much fun. The people who work at this place were so nice and engaging and they made the experience worth the money. When my sons were at the section where you take the tools and use them to secure everything in place the people who work there had a race against my sons and we do not know who won or lost to this day, but we know it was a great experience. Well, it is what it is. It's like Build a Bear for car lovers. You first pick your base car ($19 and up) then you add tires, rims, bumpers, hood vents, decals, etc. There are base options that come with the basic car but there are tons of upgrade parts and it's almost like you are Scrooge if you say no. I'd plan to spend $50 for a car if you want to be frugal, I was in line behind people spending $125 for a car. There are $10 off coupons in the broadway coupon book and retail me not. This is a great place to take a child for a special treat. They get to put the car together themselves and the staff make a big deal over how cool their cars are. read more

Like Build-a-Bear but for boys! It is pricey if you get the remote control option or any other add-ons, but the experience is worth it. The product is well-made and durable. One thing that impressed us is once you purchase one vehicle, you can purchase other vehicle bodies and parts that fit on your original chassis. So, although the initial $$ may seem high, you can actually have several different vehicles for just a little more $$. Plus, our son enjoyed switching out vehicle bodies! read more

There is a few times in life when an experience goes perfectly from beginning to end! I took my son to build a car and was greeted by Jacob. My son couldn't decide on a monster or regular lightning McQueen and Jacob took his time showing him what both would look like. He was kind, patient with a calm demeanor. He would just chuckle every time my son would get so excited about building his new car. You could tell that he enjoyed his job and loved kids. We decided at the end to opt out of buying batteries from them because we had batteries back in NJ and we were going home the next day. I couldn't believe what Jacob did!!!!! He took out his own debit card and paid for the batteries! I was shocked and kept saying "no no, we have batteries" he replied "I want him to start enjoying his car right away". I was so touched by the way he cared!! He didn't know my son, he didn't have to do what he did...but HE DID ANYWAY!!!!! What a gem of a human being!!!!! I will be returning to myrtle beach soon and I'll be sure to stop at Ridemakerz to build another car or two. Hopefully, Jacob will still be there, we would love to see him again!! Well, maybe I'm getting to be an old fogie, but this place is waaaaaaay overpriced for what you get. We had been alerted by relatives who had purchased here before, but if you think sticker shock only applies to real cars, think again. Fun for kids? Yes, for the five minutes they're in the store, but then you get to leave with a car that costs 2 to 3 times as much as what you could find elsewhere. Ours came in at over $100 each AFTER the $10 off coupons. Each "accessory" (like wheels and tires) was an up-sell. The battery pack option was skimmed over rather quickly, which left us buying a $5.00 nine-volt battery per car. My advice? Buy batteries elsewhere, look at the cars already assembled in the display strategically placed on your way OUT of the store, or slip the kids a couple of extra bucks and send them to CARMAX for a beater with a heater. It won't set you back much more. read more
