It is a little south of the city and west of the interstate but it is absolutely worth the detour. It is a rustic place called the Apple barn and parking is right in front. Their website gives a lot more information about it being more than just the main shop that is in the barn. They began as a family apple orchard and expanded over the years into a collection of attractions including two restaurants, a general store, a creamery, a winery, a candy factory, and a Christmas shop, all centered around the original barn built in 1910. We only visited the barn with the bakery goodies and the very friendly staff who helped us get some delicious snacks for the trip back to the hotel. It was great! Even if you don't plan to buy anything, it's worth taking some time to visit to get a snack for your trip or, if you are going to walk around the site, for the extra visit. We found it to be one of the more enjoyable stops to the area capping off a great visit to the Springfield, Ill area.

They have a great variety - soaps, lotions, locally produced honey and jams, accessories, gifts, etc. I've mainly purchased the soaps - these are my FAVORITE hand crafted all natural soaps. I've completely shifted my self care routine to these soaps and my skin is thanking me! I prefer the oatmeal and honey one as I'm sensitive to scents but I did get a candy corn scented one last year and the fragrance was perfect. I have purchased soaps from other stores as well, but I prefer the meant to be ones as they are a nice size, mild scent and they last about a month each (with only me using them in the shower) and they are a great price point at $4-5 a soap. I've also enjoyed the honey from here and let me tell ya - that started a peanut butter and honey toast habit. The honey is so silky and delicious! The service here has always been top notch. The employees offer to help but do not hover and will do their best to make recommendations as well.

I checked their website everyday to see if they have any for sale because I am low now. Anyways, it is that good that I would drive an hour and half to just get their milk if it's available! Vendors that offer freshly made breads, pastries, jams and jellies, can almost be classified in either group. Those who are true artisans, are offering handmade jewelry, candles, cutting boards, canes, dog fashions, clothes for children and original pieces of art. That's just a sampling of what you can find walking up and down all the aisles. When I first started coming to this market it was only one of the parking lots. It has now expanded to another one and the variety of merchandise is mind blowing. It is well worth a visit. When you arrive, stop and get a coffee at Joe's and then start your stroll to shop local.

But I went once this past summer because my then-boyfriend was feeling really stressed out with life and I wanted to do something sweet to make him feel better. He loves the outdoors and looooves blackberries, and blackberries happened to be in peak season. So I found this farm and took him out there. The drive to get out there was very pretty. It's in New Melle and I got to drive down winding roads past farms and quaint houses and gardens - very scenic. Parking was convenient, the staff people were very friendly. The blackberry farm was huge! And they were BEAUTIFUL. There is NOTHING like blackberries right off the bush. They looked like big sparkling gemstones. No lie. And the bushes were thornless, which was really nice. The only downside is that you have to get here EARLY. We luckily got there right as it opened and were able to get a good haul of blackberries, but when we wanted to try the blueberries (which was a significantly smaller field), they had already run out for the day. It took less than an hour to run out. Also, the line got LONG. Like I said, we were there early enough and didn't screw with the blueberries, so we got a good place in line, but man. We were starting to feel like we had to elbow little old ladies out of the way to get the berries quickly enough to not be last in line. Apparently it's always like this - a scramble to get the berries and running out in less than an hour - you'd think they would plant enough to serve the customer demand, but what do I know? They also had the most delicious wildflower honey I've ever tasted. I unfortunately missed peach season. If it wasn't so far from me I would totally be back. The blackberries were huge, juicy, ripe, sweet, and no tasting of pesticide like the ones I buy from the chain-grocery stores. Most incredible tasting blackberries I've ever had. A hidden gem nestled in Monticello for picking blueberries with the family. It is not a very large…read morefarm but there are plenty of rows of blueberry bushes to make many a picker happy. They have a Facebook page but we noticed no Yelp page. It seems they are a relatively new family business but they are so friendly and kind. Came out here with my toddler and the bushes are just about the perfect height for him to enjoy berry picking. The farm provides the buckets and you can have your pick of a large or small bucket to use. They were open 8-8 yesterday and today. Price per pound was $3. You have to check the Facebook page to see when the different patches of the farm are open for picking. As of this morning there was still plenty left to pick from. Definitely wear a hat and bring sunscreen! They also sell their own raw honey until sold out. If you don't want to pick they have a nice seating area in the field as well as some chairs on the porch (with shade).
