Just like last time, everything was ran efficiently and I was in and out in a timely manner. They did a wonderful job of numbing me up with lidocaine ... when I felt even a bit of anything and would make a wincing face, the attending nurse would notice my reaction and the doctor would give me more. I am such a wimp when it comes to physical pain at all, but it has been almost 7 hours since my procedure began, about 6 1/2 hours since the last shot of lidocaine, and I don't feel much at all. I followed their instructions and they gave me an ice pack to immediately put in my bra on the side of my outpatient procedure and I'm home. They will send to pathology to confirm I am ok and they scheduled me for a follow-up next week. I really love it here. I hope I don't have to come back here, of course, due to the main focus of this office ... but if I did, I would feel I was absolutely in the best hands, and these are warm and compassionate ladies working here, and I truly recommend this place if you find yourself in need of care for your "girls" ... you will be treated with dignity and respect and wonderful bedside manner!

This isn't their fault, but it does mean that you aren't likely to be treated as thoughtfully or thoroughly as you should be in a perfect world. Oftentimes I will have an issue, get an appointment quickly, be seen very briefly, and leave with an RX in hand. And most of those times, that is all I truly need and I'm satisfied with that. I liked seeing Dr. Semidey because she was very bright and astute, but she has left the practice recently. One of the worst visits I had was a same-day visit I requested because the lymph nodes in my throat had been painfully swollen for a few days. I saw a male doctor whose name I can't recall and he dismissed me completely. He said it was likely due to allergies and recommended I take allergy medications that I already take daily because yes, I do have allergies! I knew that this wasn't a typical symptom for me. The next day, I could barely speak and was in immense pain. I had tonsillitis. The office was helpful when I called back and prescribed me antibiotics, but I would never accept an appointment with a male physician again. I have been reassigned to Dr. Jacobs now that Dr. Semidey is not available. The advice I would give to patients (in general, not just Highgate patients) is to inform yourself as much as possible so you can best advocate for your care. Ultimately doctors are the authority, and I'm not the kind of person who is skeptical of the medical field as a whole, but knowing as much as you can about what is going on, what could be causing it, and what kind of solutions you're searching for can help you direct your care and advocate for your best outcome.

At the end of the appointment, she walked me into another room and told Russell (I'm still not sure of his title), right in front of me, that I was "very interested," even though I had no idea what the program even involved. Russell gave a very vague explanation of the program, and when I asked for more details, the only response I received was, "They'll call you to see what you qualify for." I still don't know who "they" are or what the program actually entails. Despite that, he immediately asked if I wanted to sign up for "the whole shabang." I was also told that if I wanted to enroll later, I should text him directly because he blocks incoming calls, which didn't sit right with me at all. What made this even more unsettling is that months ago I received a completely random call saying my doctor had "sent a script" for this exact program- something I had never discussed with anyone. At the time, I genuinely thought it was a scam call because nothing about it made sense. The entire encounter felt less like healthcare and more like someone trying to sell me something. I can't emphasize enough how much it felt like being upsold at a car dealership rather than speaking with medical professionals I've trusted for over a decade. The pressure, the lack of information, and the way I was shuffled around made me seriously question why this program was being pushed so hard. It definitely made me wonder if there is some sort of incentive or partnership tied to it, because nothing about the experience felt patient-centered or transparent. What concerns me most is how easily an older or less tech-savvy patient could be talked into signing up for something they don't understand. If I walked out feeling confused and pressured, I can only imagine how someone more vulnerable might feel. To my recollection, there has never been a long wait while getting in to see the doctor. The waiting room is large and comfortable, but I've never seen more than a couple other people in there. I don't think we've ever waited longer than three minutes ourselves. Once we are taken back to the examination room, the wait is also very short. I was torn between a 4 and a 5, and there are no half stars on Yelp, so just know this is more of a 4.5. The only reason I take a portion away is because until very recently, it's been super difficult to get someone on the phone. We've always had to leave a message, but very recently, I've gotten someone every time I've called. I don't know if that's luck or if they've hired more people or changed some of their practices regarding incoming calls. Just know, you may have to leave a message and wait for a return call. My mom typically would have to drive over to their office to ask whatever question she has or to make an appointment. (Granted, she's 87 and is not only less patient than she used to be, she also struggles with the phone menu. Switching screens on her phone is a foreign idea to her, and she never really knows which number to press even if she somehow accidentally finds the keyboard screen.) Dr. Morelli's staff has also been extremely helpful to me when I've needed it, and shows they truly care about the patients.

My "therapist" was late to every session and I don't think I got a full 30 minute session ever. I've been with PCWNY for 15+ years and I'm so disappointed that I was bait and switched by this third party program that did nothing for my mental health other than make it worse.
