I am taking a moment to update my review given over a year ago for Garden of Joy Montessori…read more I am still beyond grateful for the dedication and support that has been given by Miss Sierra Tan and all of her support staff at GOJMIS. My son has continued to thrive and excel at SO MUCH, since being under the care and instruction of Miss Sierra. At just over 5 years old, my son is reading with ease and proficiency. He is able to grasp and understand a variety of mathematical concepts, and shares anecdotes of many other things he has learned throughout his day at pick-up (and throughout the week!). We speak only English in our home, but the exposure to Chinese and Spanish has brought the recitation of stories and lessons taught into our home. My son sings songs in Chinese (and can explain to me what they mean and what he is saying), and does the same in Spanish. I am in awe that he is becoming a tri-lingual speaker, and hope to carry on the exposure once he enters grade school. Miss Sierra's techniques and execution of the Montessori Method is a testament to how well this educational approach works, when implemented by a dedicated and unwavering instructor. I know that I have given my son the best start on the journey of learning, and I have Garden of Joy Montessori to thank. We are still enjoying the wonderful sense of community and involvement by parents and caregivers on park outings and holiday celebrations, looking through adorable daily photo updates and pertinent school communication via an app (Playground), and opportunities to be involved in the classroom (parent-led cooking projects, story time, etc.) This school is truly a gem in the South Bay.

He also made great friends--including a best friend he couldn't stop talking about at home! We are sad to leave Play 'N' Learn as he moves on to TK this year, but the foundation they built for him has prepared him so well for this next step. We are very happy with our experience at Valley Oak Montessori. Our son has been attending here for…read moreabout 4 months. He just turned 4 and is in the Sunflower classroom with Ms. Thanh and Ms. Hillary. This was our first time leaving our kid in the care of others who are not family. We were feeling a little anxious. But when we toured the facility with Ms. Varsha and Ms. Lucy and met the teachers, we instantly knew he would be safe and well cared for. They are very warm and welcoming and most importantly our son felt comfortable with them. The communication is great. We get updates throughout the day about if he's eating and when he's napping. They'll send pictures and videos as well. If there's an incident we are notified. He fell on the playground and got a scraped knee, they reported it with photos and how he was feeling. And they cleaned him up. Any concerns or questions that we have, they respond quickly. We get weekly lesson plans and weekly newsletters that report what they learned in class and what parents should focus on at home to reinforce their learning. Their summer program is a lot of fun. Each week their lessons are themed. They have water days and lego days once a week, and they also have people come for different types of activities. They had a petting zoo, a magician, music day, bubble day, and many other fun activities that the kids enjoy. Our son has really blossomed at Valley Oak. He's become more sociable with kids his age. His confidence and independence is growing. He's learned skills that he wouldn't have gotten if we didn't enroll him into Valley Oak. He can count to 100, write letters, use scissors, identify the weather, and he's beginning to understand the calendar and days of the week. We're very pleased with Valley Oak. We took our 2 years old son with us on the visit as we wanted to include him in the process and help make the transition to school smoother for him. The school is part of a church but the preschool curriculum does not appear to be focus on religion. We started with a p/t schedule for about 1.5 months then transition him to f/t. I would say it took him about 2 months to fully transition. However, I did not have any worries as Ms. Jenny and the other teachers/paraprofessionals are very kind, friendly, supportive and knowledgeable of child development. I like that they did not pressure my son with potty training him but encourages him daily to use the toilet. They understand that every child's development is different and that my son is ready when he is. He eventually sat on the toilet but did not do his business and everything clicked when he turned 3 as he is now potty trained. :) Now that my son is used to preschool, he is excited to go to school every day and happy to share with me his classwork/artwork whenever I pick him up. He leaves the school smiling and saying bye to all his friends and teachers. Further, he is always singing songs and talking about things he has learn from school. I am so glad that he is having such a positive experience here and I know that he will definitely be ready for Kindergarten when the time comes. There are 4 rooms connected to each other so it's easy to separate the classes during curriculum and free play, and it's also easy to teachers to hop between rooms as needed. The school provided excellent lunches and snacks, and posted great pictures of the children eating together on the Procare app. Also the outdoor play area is excellent. There are many cars, balls and toys for the children to use. The shade structures are expertly set up, and the playground equipment is fun and safe. With all the children ages 2-5, the teachers and facilities are perfectly tuned to these ages. Such a great school!

It was the right decision, because we have seen her grow so much from her time at scholars. The teachers really pour their heart into nurturing and caring for the kids. She comes home with amazing art work, work sheets and tells us about all the new things she learns every week. The annual spring and winter concerts are very well organized and it's rewarding to see the community come together. Overall it's been a very fulfilling experience and we're glad we found scholars ! They encourage outdoor playtime and also hone kids' personal preferences as well. Their reports are also very detailed and specific for each kid. Mrs.Dora is a great and helpful director. I always feel welcomed each morning, greeted with a smile and a warm hello! It's always nice because when I drop off my daughter, I leave ready to tackle traffic and a long day at work but with everything I endure first thing at daycare, I'm able to have a smile, I'm able to feel secure and safe as I leave my child. It sets the right tone for my day, thank you to all the staff and specially our teachers Mrs. Juanita and Mrs. Daisy. Some professional areas I love about the school are the academics, the social skills and manners that my daughter learns daily. She comes home singing and is overall happy.
