We took our 2 years old son with us on the visit as we wanted to include him in the process and help make the transition to school smoother for him. The school is part of a church but the preschool curriculum does not appear to be focus on religion. We started with a p/t schedule for about 1.5 months then transition him to f/t. I would say it took him about 2 months to fully transition. However, I did not have any worries as Ms. Jenny and the other teachers/paraprofessionals are very kind, friendly, supportive and knowledgeable of child development. I like that they did not pressure my son with potty training him but encourages him daily to use the toilet. They understand that every child's development is different and that my son is ready when he is. He eventually sat on the toilet but did not do his business and everything clicked when he turned 3 as he is now potty trained. :) Now that my son is used to preschool, he is excited to go to school every day and happy to share with me his classwork/artwork whenever I pick him up. He leaves the school smiling and saying bye to all his friends and teachers. Further, he is always singing songs and talking about things he has learn from school. I am so glad that he is having such a positive experience here and I know that he will definitely be ready for Kindergarten when the time comes. The school opens at 7:30 am which is helpful for parents like myself who need time be at work by 8 am. They provide snacks/lunch and help the kids go to sleep for nap time. There are 2 concerts each year that your child gets to participate in, and they have parent teacher conference so that you can be engaged with your child's academic journey. The school is gated which gives a great sense of security and safety for your child and the staff. They are open during the summer and have a summer program. Each week there is a special guest/event such as a bubble lady, puppet show, bird show, bike-a-thon and a carnival day. This is truly a great school to consider if you're looking for flexibility and support.

In the short amount of time, he has learned a tremendous amount, made many friends, and developed social skills. He is making incredible progress in his reading and maths, and comes home curious and full of questions about the topics he's learned at school (such as geography or science). We wish we had sent him sooner as he will be graduating to Kindergarten this summer! We can't wait to start our younger son at EMS this fall.

My husband and I researched several Montessori schools and at-home daycares in the area before concluding SJDN was the one for us. It was important to us that the class sizes were big enough so that there were multiple infant classes with children closer in age, so the crawlers weren't mixed in with those who could walk. We really appreciated how organized things felt with staff wearing uniforms and walkie-talkies being utilized for communication. For our site visits, we were greeted upon entering (usually by Miss Rhysie, who was awesome!!) and it always felt like they were prepared for us to arrive - this didn't always happen during our tours at other daycares, haha. I love that SJDN is a non-profit with a sliding scale tuition. Pricing for infant care is NOT cheap and SJDN doesn't offer part-time care; I don't think many places do. However, we felt that our daughter was well cared for here. At pick-up and drop-off we were always given some feedback about our daughter's day and greeted warmly by everyone while walking through the facilities. Shoutout to our daughter's teachers in room 7 at the time: Miss Samira, Miss Halima, Miss Venus, Miss Diana, Miss Kristina, Miss Berenice. These ladies were wonderful :) The only thing we would change is the location and the lack of a parking lot! There is a only a small curb for pick-ups and drop-off and (paid) street parking only. During busy times, we would have to wait up to 5-10 minutes for a spot to open up at the curb. This was the most annoying thing but it would not deter us from choosing SJDN again. We left because we moved out of state, or else we probably would've stayed for longer! Thank you SJDN!

My kiddo is now 5, same time last year he was dealing with a big change in his young life between dad and I, he didn't handle it well. His last school didn't handle it well either and eventually kicked him out due to his behavior getting aggressive towards other kiddos because he didn't know how to express his emotions and I actually walked in on how the teachers at the other school were handling his behavior, which now I don't blame my son. They were horrible and definitely handling it in such a bad way. After getting booted, I brought him here with his little brother since its smaller environment might be better for my kiddo. He was doing great and settle in well, never had issues until recently (tryna figure out why now besides his delay) and I was so scared and stressed I was going to relive everything with him getting kicked out and not given a chance. I was wrong Angela, Rikki, his teachers in room 1 and Alina have ALL been a blessing to help as much as they can even though his behavior resulted in a behavior plan and kiddo needing 1:1supervision by dad, me or Alina, I SEE the effort. I FEEL the compassion even though emotions got the best of me being so over whelmed. Again, these ladies (besides Alina) don't specialize in this type of situation like my son, but they have tried their best just based off experience and I was to truly thank you all for trying, helping and giving my baby chance after chance (lol) because I know it isn't easy!!! My son getting kicked out of the other school was a blessing in disguise. I understand policies and protocols on kiddo behavior, but we've all seen improvement and I can only pray for more progression, not regression in my baby. I truly want to say thank you to the entire staff for trying and giving my baby chance and hope. The school itself does a good job getting to know the parents and providing detailed feedback on the kids' progress. My daughter loves the hands-on science experiments they do as a part of their STEM curriculum. When my daughter entered preschool at age 3, she knew her letters but was not reading yet. After going through their phonics program, she has started reading and can work her way through small books. The preschool teacher (Ms. Pallavi), is superb. She is very loving and patient with the children. She creates a nurturing environment where kids feel safe and love to learn. She notices what each kid needs and makes sure to support them. When the new school year began, several of our daughter's friends moved on to kindergarten. The teacher made sure to help her make new friends to help her settle back in. The preschool director (Ms. Neena) and Safari Kid owner (Ms. Jaishree) are also very loving towards the children. They make it a point to get to know the children and families well. They both are very approachable and open to feedback. In fact, they actively solicit feedback in an effort to make enhancements/improvements. We are super happy with the preschool program at Safari Kid. Most importantly, our daughter is learning a lot and loves going to school!
