I will try to put this in as few words as possible "you get what you pay for" Ringers made me realize that Landscaping is an art and the guys at Ringers are artists. They take Landscaping very seriously. They are very knowledgeable and do amazing artwork. if you want "the best", go with Ringers Landscaping if you're trying to save money and get things for free then take your chances with a less experienced Company. I did want to comment on the reviews left about the dead bushes and flowers. You have to realize that once these new things are planted, they have to be watered daily and if you don't have Ringers install sprinklers you have to stay on it otherwise the plants will die, including grass also, you have to water them when the sun is not beating on them, so I would recommend if you get plants or trees installed to get a sprinkler system installed. it will save you time and money in the end. PSA: Avoid using Ringers Landscape Services, inc. We had them install a new underground drain for our sump pump. After they collected my non-refundable deposit (which was over $1K) they then let us know a few days later that the job wouldn't start for over 10 weeks. I was stuck as we had no choice or lose our deposit. It was never communicated ahead of time that they were booked so far out. Had I known this in advance I would have gone with another company. Our old drain was clogged and causing a huge mud pit in my back yard. Got my final invoice to only find an email xtra $175 charge on there for the $25 permit and a $150 "processing fee". Called to ask as my quote clearly said $0 on this line item so I assumed it was included since we negotiated the price down. Had I known I would have also asked if I could pull the permit myself. Was told that it's right there in the quote so I'm responsible. While true, I feel the quote is intentionally misleading to make their quote look better. Gave 2 stars instead of 1 because the work was very professional done when it finally started. The crew was quick, clean and professional. Unfortunately their front office doesn't match their skilled labor. Either on its own I probably would let it slide. Won't use them again and advise my friends to do the same. Poor quality work. Compared to other reviews, I did not receive proper service. I was taken advantage of CLEARLY. It is a shame when a business is not consistent. If I pay money for a service, I expect it to be done properly the first time. Especially if you claim to be great at what you do. I should not have to continuously ask for things to be fixed. Ringers helped us grade our entire back yard with a swale to guide rain water to a creek. They also re-graded and adjusted part of the rock creek to get the water to flow properly. They re-seeded after all the grading was done. It was a big job and took some doing but the results are amazing and exceeded our expectations. Everyone was so nice and cordial through the whole process. They had to come back and make some adjustments to ensure proper water flow after the first big rain but they made good on their work and it is...dare I say...perfect now. read more

They did a fantastic job putting in my water system in the backyard, but the sod that was laid died in several areas, shortly thereafter, even though I watered and fertilized as instructed. The staff worked with us amazingly even after we changed our mind about the original pavers we chose. They had no problem when we went in and changed the original pavers that we had chosen. Ringers has the WORST customer service ever. As long as your project doesn't run into a snag they may be fine for you, but their customer service is terrible. We had an overactive sump pump issue leaving our yard swampy. In July, they installed a dry well to contain the water. The dry well was installed on a Friday and the very next Monday we had water coming to the surface of the ground again. We spoke to Mike after that and he was arrogant and just kept saying "the job was adequately done." While we never disputed the adequacy of the job, it didn't solve the problem we set out to solve. So naturally they took offense to the fact that their work needed to be augmented.  Then it took over 3 months before a new job was even put into place. They said it took longer because the city said for the new project to hook our line to the city sewer they couldn't dig underneath some concrete but had to cut through it. Hence causing the job to cost more too. Little did we know they sneakily put in the contract that they are not responsible for asphalt problems. Knowing that they spoke to the city on how it needed to be done. Now we have to pay for more asphalt to be repaired because it didn't meet the city's guidelines. We pay you to be professional and know what to do, not to sneak a clause into the contract to save your ass because you knew your procedure would not suffice. Mike and Russ are owners and the ABSOLUTE WORST at dealing with customer issues, they approach issues arrogantly like their work can NEVER be wrong.  Their communication is poor to say the least. We would get a different story from both of them, then would get Lisa calling and emailing days behind as well. So not only can they not communicate in a timely manner to their customers, they can't communicate within their own office. Well, you both are shady business men and totally took advantage of an old lady. There's no way you can sit there and tell me that after speaking with the city you knew your fix wasn't going to suffice and don't tell us, conveniently put in the contract that you're not responsible for anything after footing the bill on us for your shady practices. There is no way we would have known to look for that sort of detail within the contract you presented to us. It was almost as though you had your fingers crossed behind your back grade school style while we sat there like fools and signed, while you smiled and took our money. The workers were seen taking extended naps (I have pictures) on what was supposed to be a one day project that ended up being three days.   Ringers definitely lives up to their namesake and RINGS the hell out of you. He was flippant and unconcerned that he was leaving me in a serious bind at the time of a first major snowfall. The men who work for this company have been so kind to us in so many ways. They have seen me out in the yard dealing with a particularly stubborn batch of weeds, and have stopped what they were doing for a moment to give me some advice. They have seen us struggling with our gigantic driveway when our tractor was down, and have taken a moment to take the bobcat down the driveway once or twice for us. This is absolutely how to run a landscaping business! From start to finish their professionalism, courtesy, cleanliness, workmanship, and attentional to detail exceeded our expectations. In dealing with Erik the owner for our backyard sod and landscaping project, his enthusiasm for his work was obvious. I had estimates done from a couple other companies, and Ringers was definitively not only the most in depth, where several options were presented, but it was also the more economical choice. But what really sold me was not the price (although that was a big plus), it was the genuine enthusiasm and interest in getting my lawn and backyard get-away to being its most beautiful with bang for the buck. They went above and beyond to readjust existing flagstone pathways, and also professionally installing an arbor that I had built up which I had planned to do myself, but they took care of it for me doing a much better job than I surely would have. We worked with our share of shady landscapers before we met Erik and Megan at Ringers. From our first meeting we knew these were our people - just normal, trustworthy and they do elevated design work. That was 5 years ago for our new house in Lake Barrington and since then we've had them do all our landscaping, our landscape lighting + built out our hardscape back patio + they do our lawn service. Megan's design work is GREAT- doesn't look like every other house, using unique and interesting plants. Multiple neighbors have told us they copied a lot of what we had. If I was rating JUST the work the did on my lawn, they'd get 5 stars. If I was rating JUST the customer service, they'd get 1 star. I'll start with the good. Our lawn was a disaster when we bought our house. The previous owner did not maintain it and there were two big trees blocking out much sun. Ringer's removed a bunch of branches and then laid sod down, and river rocks along our house and the back yard looks amazing now. The 3 guys who came to do the actual work were awesome. The detail they put into their work was impressive. They even started watering the lawn for us as they finished other details. The guy who led the team of 3 whose name I cannot remember should start his own business; he's that good. The cost was also very reasonable compared to other estimates we received. Now the bad. I started taking notes on each issue we had. This is going to get lengthy. 1. When e-mailing back and forth about all of the work we needed done, I specifically asked how much it would be to remove a large limb on one of the trees that for some reason had a metal wire tied around it and it's strangling the limb. I received the price back and it looked great so I said go for it. When the tree guys came to do the work I saw them just cleaning some branches off that limb and I asked if they were going to remove the whole limb. Their response was "Are we supposed to"? I called Erik, the owner, and it turns out he miss-read the e-mail and thought I only wanted the branches cleaned off that limb. That limb is still on the tree. 2. We had quite a few limbs removed from both trees. Ringer's didn't seal any of the limbs. I've heard this can cause rot, and I know someone who actually had a tree come down due to this. The biggest limbs were low enough I was able to seal them myself, but there are a lot of smaller ones that are not sealed because they're too high for me to get to. 3. The first invoice we received for the tree work had an extra charge on it. This was removed after I questioned it. 4. Response times from the office were awful. The above appointment with Erik was somewhere before March 28th. On March 28th I e-mailed Erik and the office with questions based off our meeting. I had to follow up twice and didn't receive a response until well over a week later. 5. I know scheduling work is difficult in the spring when dealing with the spring rains. But Erik and I had talked about the work being done between April 16th and April 20th if weather permitted since we would be out of town and wouldn't have to worry about the dogs. On 3/31 the wires and utilities were marked in our yard. I texted Erik to make sure that was for him and he said yes, and he had us on the schedule for that week, and he'd let me know what day for sure. Never heard from him that week. I e-mailed the office at the end of the week and asked about this. I was told we were on the schedule for the week of 4/16. I responded saying that's weird, Erik said we were on the schedule this week. Did not receive a response. 6. Erik finally called on 4/8. We discussed some changes to the plan. I asked how much he would charge to take down our 7ftx7ft shed. He said $150. I thought this was high but I didn't have time to do it myself so I said OK. When it was time to remove the shed I noticed the guys hauling it out in one piece. I laughed at how they were doing it and the head guy said one of the other guys wanted it, so they were going to load it on the truck and take it. OK. Fine with me, but I'm not paying $150 for them to keep the shed. I mentioned this to Erik and he said well they still had to do the labor so he cut it in half to $75. I'll take the $75 in savings but I think it's ridiculous I paid Erik $75 for his guys to take my shed for themselves. I should have just sold it online. 7. Again, I know the rain makes scheduling difficult, but the communication was awful. Erik said we'd be on the schedule now for 4/10 or 4/11. The forecast for 4/10 at the time was already terrible so I knew they weren't coming that day. 4/11 came and there was no rain in sight, and no landscapers in sight. I texted Erik at 11AM to see if they were coming and he said he called his guys off the previous night because the forecast was calling for rain and it changed dramatically overnight. I don't know what the forecast was so I can't confirm or deny this. But he said they'd be there the next day, 4/12, at 7:30AM. So I made plans with work to work from home that day. I then received a text from him at 8PM on 4/11 saying we were getting too much rain overnight, they couldn't do the work in the morning. But there was always rain in the forecast that evening. This hadn't changed, so why was it ok at 11AM when we talked but not at 8PM? 8. Invoice for the yard work contained an extra $250 charge. This was also removed after I questioned. I have talked to Erik about more work I want done in future years, but I can't decide if the great work is worth the hassle. read more

Absolutely no follow through, terrible communication, and unable to reliably show up. Since the season started they have routinely not showed up to mow lawn. Still waiting for gutters to be cleaned for 3 months later. Signed up for weeding as needed. They have been here 3x to weed even though it hasn't been requested. If only they'd actually mow my lawn that often. Put a deposit down for plantings that I doubt we will ever see. read more

My parents had a giant Oak tree (50+ feet) on their property which has been dead for years. The last couple years, the tree really started to deteriorate and it was time to remove it before it came down on the house. My Dad had put this off for years due to the cost for removal, but he had no choice now. I helped him track down a few quotes, and Ringer's gave us the best price. When the crew showed up, the tree was in worse condition than expected and they needed to get more gear to get the thing down. They re-scheduled for the next day and came-back and got the tree down without any issues (Erik, the owner, personally showed up to make sure everything went smoothly). My Dad intended on keeping the wood for their fire pit, so he didn't want the wood hauled off. To help my Dad get the wood into manageable pieces , Erik himself, stayed another hour or so after his crew left, to chainsaw the large pieces into something my Dad could work with. I contracted with Ringers to cut my grass, but with the drought, all Ringers seems to do is cut away the grass in front of my flower beds, leaving more empty space for weeds to grow. My grass is long, and covered with leaves and sticks. I also have had them charge me for services they never performed. read more
