We recently (June 27-29) spent two days/nights at the Rio Bravo campground within the Orilla Verde Recreation Area. I have never seen dirtier bathrooms. Not even in gas stations. Clumps of hair on the counters, in the showers. Very dirty sinks with unidentifiable items. There appeared to be rat or frog poo all over the outside dish washing sink. There was a camp host there but they were never out in the campground. The counters, toilets and showers were so filthy that we preferred to use the water spigots to wash our hands and faces. I spent time picking up large trash (over 20 paper plates and other items) during my stay. A 'ranger' came thru on Wednesday and only picked up the recycling. No trash was emptied during the 2 days we were there. We also noted that 3 or 4 of the riverside sites had tents staked to them but no one was actually staying there. Just empty tents blowing in the wind storms.
Since there was no one to tell, the men's room light and fan will stay on all day and all night unless turned off manually. Which we did numerous times since both the light and noise was completely ruining the quiet of nature we look for when camping.
I hope that the camp host is not being compensated for being there as they are not overseeing your campground at all. We took a walk to the Pilar Campground and its bathrooms were very clean and welcoming. So this must be an issue only at Rio Bravo. read more
