At the end of November, just after Thanksgiving. I phoned Daisy to find out how car-buying works at Rio Vista Chevy. I told her my desired build and colors, and she asked me to send over my driver's license and insurance policy. She put an order in for me and said she'd continue searching inventory for the car. We kept in touch and texted every few days. 10 days later, she gave me a call, left a voice mail, and sent me an urgent text and email... she found the EXACT car I wanted. I couldn't believe it. She found my precise specifications and color preferences and offered the below-sticker price I wanted including special GM incentive discounts. I had a build sheet with my name on the car, showing "Retail Sold" order type. In 14 days, the car arrived at the dealership. Arrived on a Sunday afternoon, knowing that my Volt would not be able to make it home to Santa Monica. Service department closed, of course. But the folks on duty in the sales department showed me how to set up an after hours work order so the car could be looked at the next morning, and managed to find me a loaner car to drive home with, so I didn't have to try to find a place that was open on Sunday to rent a car from. The car was repaired by Tuesday, and they managed to get the work covered by warranty (my car is 7 years old with 45,000 miles on it) so there was no charge for the loaner or the repair. And then they set up a way for me to pick up my car and return the loaner after hours on Tuesday when all departments were closed. read more

I found Rio Vista Chevrolet on a recommendation from a friend who purchased his C8 Z51 Corvette from them. I placed an order for a C8 Z51 in June and was told it would be about a 10 month wait. Both my friend and I live 500 miles north of the dealership and since I was planning on getting a full PPF I didn't want to risk getting a rock chip on the drive home I started researching dealers in my area that would handle the Courtesy Deliver for me. I was also told by Rio Vista that they would not be able to install all of the GM factory options I had selected for my car which I thought was strange since these were options on the Corvette build website ETA and my local dealers install these items during PDI. I found a local dealer that has accepted 100's of Corvette Courtesy Deliveries and they were very eager to help me with this project. They said they could even install all of the options I had selected that Rio Vista wasn't "comfortable" doing. A couple of weeks ago I found out I was #5 on the waiting list so I asked the receiving dealer to contact Rio Vista regarding the Courtesy Delivery. A couple of hours later the Rio Vista sales rep called me to let me know they cancelled my order and that they are no longer interested in doing business with me under any circumstances. You would think a call like this would come from the dealership's GM. The excuse they gave me is that they are friends with my local dealership and do not want to sell a car "in their backyard". They didn't have a problem selling a car to my friend who lives in the other dealer's backyard and they've known my address for the past 6 months and never mentioned having any issues with selling cars in my area. And if this was truly a mistake they could have simply filled my order and prevented it from happening next time. Apparently, the real issue is that the other dealer found out about the transaction so Rio Vista promptly cancelled the order even though the other dealership wanted to go forward with the Courtesy Delivery. None of this makes sense so be sure to get everything in writing if you're getting on the waitlist with Rio Vista. I learned the hard way by wasting 5 months and now have to start the wait all over again at the end of the line at MacMulkin Chevrolet who will gladly accommodate the Courtesy Delivery to my local dealership. read more
