We live a couple hours away, and travel all over antiquing for Griswold. I liked stopping in here because I grew up in Danbury, and found things from my local childhood as well. We took a friend into the store with us last month, and decided it would be our last trip here. The employees literally followed us all over the store, and continuously asked us if we needed anything. We are all three very capable of asking for help, should we need any. It got so irritating that I told my husband the next time that lady asks me if I need help, I swear I'm going to walk out. So I rounded the corner to pick up another nice piece of cast iron we had decided we wanted to buy, only to be greeted by the same employee asking again if I needed any help. Instead of even picking up or purchasing said item, I told my husband " I'm done"... and we walked out. I understand loss can be a problem in retail, but to treat EVERYONE as if we are stealing will definitely ruin a business faster than a rude customer service associate in my honest opinion. You should not have your employees following three retired people all over the store. I can understand if we have things in our hands that need to be brought up to the counter, but at no point had I even picked anything up yet... and we all had sales ladies following us all over the store. It became extremely annoying... and that was enough to NOT make me spend my money here on that trip or any future trips. What a shame! Maybe use your cameras more, and tell the employees we aren't all thieves! We spend a lot of money on our collectibles, and like to relax, take our time, and look around. I personally love to look in every locked case, where the more valuable items need to be kept, yet felt as if we were being constantly watched. Not a great feeling for sure.

I don't think I've ever come a cross a thrift store with this much versatility. Out of the Closet is serious about HIV/AIDS advocacy and they prove it by putting their money where their mouth is. Like many other thrift stores in Montrose, you can expect marked up (but still fair) prices compared to the larger ones with piles upon piles of clothes to sift through. 96% of all proceeds at this store, however, go toward supporting the AIDS Healthcare Foundation. Free condoms are offered near the cashier counter; free HIV testing and a not-for-profit pharmacy sits in the back. The roots of thrifting inherently lie in supporting the community. This is usually accomplished through the affordability of everyday items, but this shop takes it to the next level by showing their dedication to safe sex and access to healthcare. Give this place a visit the next time you cruise through Westheimer -- they deserve your time more than you know.

When we walked in, we were greeted by the owners who are still hard at work making this store all it can be and more. The store is a nice blend of old and new, with clothes, jewelry, glassware, linens, furniture. There are items you will want for yourself and wonderful gift opportunities as well. At the back of this space you will find ROC's, where delicious treats await!!! At this time they are serving soups, salads, sandwiches and desserts.
