When I was visiting his office about 12 years ago, I sat next to a patient in the waiting room. He was an older white man with a thick German accent. I was a 20 something black woman probably reading a gossip magazine or playing a game on my phone. On the surface we had nothing to talk about or in common. But as time and boredom grew, we struck up a conversation. I commented about his cool accent and that I was hoping to travel to Germany one day. He shared Germany was a wonderful place but that he didn't travel back often. As the conversation continued, he eventually shared that he had been a German solider in World War II. That even now (2013) he felt that the media was always trying to separate people. He had trusted what he saw and learned the hard way that we all have more in common than we don't. I knew what he meant by saying he was a German solider in WWII and I had NEVER expected to ever meet someone that had fought for Germany during that time, let alone disclose it. I had always made monsters of the people I read about in history books. I also, never thought about the humanity and wisdom of someone that had believed something at one point in their life and had changed. "We should have nothing in common, but look at us. We could talk all day." I have never forgotten his vulnerability and candor. I think about this interaction a lot. I wish I had had the foresight to have recorded it. I believe it would have been impactful as a reminder that we are all vulnerable to our echo chambers and to challenge what divides us. If this man was your father, granddad, uncle or friend and he's still alive, tell him thank you and ask him to scream his wisdom from the roof tops. I'll forever be grateful for that conversation. I write to inform former, past, and future clients that they may or may not be correctly diagnosed…read more Before I explain, I want to say the Dr Itoro was an accomodating and nice lady. She tried her best to meet my needs while I was 3 hours away for college. For that reason, I was grateful. However, I was misdiagnosed as Bipolar by Dr Itoro. During the 1.5 years I was treated, I chose to believe the diagnosis because I was desperate to return to my original self. I followed every guideline and suggestion. Took every pill, even when I felt emotionally worse, gained 30 lbs in 2 months, sickly, yeast infections, and my flawless skin turned cystic (rolling scars to this day). In an attempt to be a 5 star patient, I joined a Bipolar support group. It was during those weekly sessions that I realized, I was unlike the 30 regular attendants. So much so, the group leaders and the group consistenly inquired about my diagnosis, believing I was NOT bipolar. From there, I sought out other professional opinions. Not two, three, or four, but seven! Each and every one told me to immediately stop my medication for it was doing more damage than good. 1 month after stopping all medication, the depressive cloud faded, acne cleared, chronic sickness haulted, and I began to lose weight without trying. I felt balance the best I could be for having Post Traumatic Stress (my REAL problem which is in a good place now). A few months after stopping the medication, I tried to schedule an appointment with Dr Itoro to explain what happened, and ask questions. Her response was to find a new doctor since I did not see her during the last 3 months.... Lesson learned- seek mutiple opinions before signing up to prescription drugs. It will be three years come February since I stopped all medications prescribed by her (AND from anyone else). I STILL have reactions from those drugs.

She's a psychiatrist, not a therapist, but she talks to me! And she listens! She has told me things about the meds I've been on for 16 years that I never learned in the 12 years I was on them before beginning to work with her - about interactions with OTC drugs and possible long-term side-effects - and she is extremely diligent about monitoring for these effects via asking questions and ordering regular blood tests. Dr. Ibia asks incisive questions about my life to determine whether anything medically significant is going on, while at the same time being warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental. Her stated goal is to keep me in a place where my symptoms are being managed - not just where I'm surviving them - and she strikes what I perceive to be an excellent balance in being willing to "tweak" my meds to deal with changes in my mental health, without reaching for drugs as a solution to everything. She is competent and caring and extremely concerned that I am getting the most helpful care possible. Possibly the best doctor - not just psychiatrist - I've ever had.

A friend of mine recommended that I try cognitive behavior therapy…read more I reached out to this practice group and asked for a particular therapist. He was fully committed so I was pushed by the patient coordinator to see Dr. Suro. I did not want to see her because she did not seem trained in trauma but I was assured that if I did not like her they would put my money towards another therapist. During the sessions I felt that she was unprofessional because she spent our time in therapy describing traumas she went through. This made me fee that I needed to spend my time in therapy to give her therapy. It felt strange and uncomfortable. I was starting to study for finals at school so I thought I should take a few weeks break from this therapy. I simply did not want added stress of giving therapy to my therapist while in finals. Nonetheless, she contacted me during finals, while I was at work,regarding billing. I embarrassingly stood in the bathroom of my job for almost 15 min explaining to her that I would ensure payment even if the 3rd party did not pay her. She constantly told me that she should have listened to her gut and not taken me as a patient. Of course that comment really made me feel terrible. I told her that I wished I hadn't seen her at all because it was a lot of stress. She said "wow" and threatened to give away my personal information from our sessions to the 3rd party asking for payment. I spent another 5 minutes to give her therapy and calm her down to try to neutralize the situation but felt betrayed that she would say such things. I was shaking and stressed for the following two weeks. The crazy thing was that I had already coordinated payment previous to therapy. Anyway, ultimately she received payment. Since our sessions were stalled for a few weeks, I wanted to speak on the phone before continuing to understand what I need to prepare. She told me that she had already called me enough. I thought that was strange since the times she called me she was trying to work out billing. The entire interaction with her as a therapist was horrible at best. I have been going to a therapist to get therapy from this entire mess. When I complained to the patient coordinator I was told that they would get back to me in the near future. Needless to say, they did not. Thus, I would not recommend Dr. Suro or the practice group. This entire experience left me feeling betrayed and taken advantage of. Buyer beware.

Dr. Dennis is an extraordinary therapist who empowers and supports patients towards true healing…read more I am so unbelievably grateful to have had him as my therapist and can not say enough good things about him, so I will simply say that he has therapeutically changed my life in ways I didn't think were possible. His care is evidence that cognitive behavioral therapy works if you are willing to put in the effort. The practice does not accept insurance, but from what I've heard, the good ones rarely do because insurance is a pain to deal with for mental health providers. If you can afford it, and are willing to put in the hard work, you won't regret it.
