If your back is sore, then you dislike Backburn. But maybe you'll like Blackburn. It's like when…read moreyou burn your little black book with all the names of your fave and least fave people to sleep with, and stuff.
First-Hand Experience: As someone who has seen Blackburn play live a dozen times, and was a supporter of them (during the Dalglish days), I feel very connected to this club. I have to give them a 5 star rating for that even though they're currently being run into the ground by a Chicken company from India.
A truly great club. I've seen them as a kid, as a teenager, and once as an adult as well. Every time was fantastic. Great support, great fan base, and a great stadium too for that matter.
Anyway, I used to be a massive fan of this team in the mid-90s. Because Liverpool, my fave team ever, let their best manager (arguably) go, their biggest legend. I mean, he quit, but they didn't beg him to come back and they should have. Instead they moved on and got someone else when rumours were that he wanted to come back.
His name was Kenny Dalglish. So instead, Dalglish went to a team languishing in the second tier, and together with owner Jack Walker, they built a dynasty. Absolutely amazing work from King Kenny, as he brought in the likes of Stuart Ripley, Colin Hendry, Kevin Gallagher, Graeme Le Saux, Henning Berg, Tim Sherwood (yes the guy from Spurs and Villa lol), Tim Flowers (no relation to Brandon) in goal, Chris Sutton, and of course... the legend... Alan Shearer.
That team was just so good, and played together so well, that they had 3 or 4 amazing seasons in the Prem, and shockingly, actually won the Premier League. They were the last provincial team to win the top flight, and the only time it's ever happened in the Prem era. Before that you'd have to go back to Ipswich or Notts Forest winning titles, but even then, they're much bigger towns than Blackburn. A town the size of Blackburn hadn't won the title since probably before WWII.
Amazing.
So I still have to give them 5 stars, but let's be honest. Venky's, the current owners, have virtually ruined the club. If their chicken is half as bad as their ownership, then the club is in trouble. They're out of the Prem now, and not doing so well, but I'll always love them, even with these awful owners. Hopefully they get back where they belong soon. Why the hell did the Walkers sell to these chicken people anyway. Idk.
So I'll always remember when Kenny lost his final match of the season at Anfield, but still managed to win the league because Mr Alex choked. Loved it, loved it, loved it. You know Alex is still angry that Kenny beat him to several titles at Liverpool and then came and did it with Blackburn too. Ha. Ha. Ha.
Formed in 1875, this is one of the grandest old teams playing in beautiful blue and white halves. Capacity 31k, usually not full, lol. They were founder members. They are loyal (Paul Robinson is still their goalie). They are forgiving (Chris Brown may have beaten Rihanna, but he still plays for Blackburn as their #9. And John the Baptist would be proud of the on loan Alex Baptiste. Oh and they still have David Dunn and now wee Jay Spearing on loan. Great side. One of the Olsonn's plays here too. Not Mary-Kate or Ashley though.
Damien Duff, Andy Cole, Tugay, Benni McCarthy, Craig Bellamy, Roque Santa Cruz, are all recent legends of this club. Great players!
And they have won THREE titles, as well. 1912, 1914 (the boat sank, get over it), and of course Kenny's legend of 1995. Yay! The SAS! They are also six time FA Cup Winners which is amazing. All before the wall street crash of 29, and 5 of them are in the 1800s. They only won the league cup once, but it was very recently - in 2002! So they are one of very very few teams that have won silverware in all three centuries. Not even Liverpool have done that.
GG BRFC! We're all waiting for Rovers' return.
