The worst tattoo experience of my life. Have you ever met someone new and within 2 min you're like, nah, i'm good, I don't want to know this person? This is exactly how I felt about Danny. I should have gotten up and left. Unfortunately I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt and I stayed. THE most emotionally significant tattoo of my life, is ruined. And it can't be fixed because of the nature of the tattoo (my dead mom's handwriting). And obviously, it's on me forever. Danny never stopped talking. He never asked about the meaning of the tattoo or anything else really. He actually never let me get a word in edgewise about anything. After 10-15 min of his constant chatter about his political views I had to speak up. I politely asked him that we change topics. That lasted about 20 min and he was right back at it. So unprofessional!! My sister was also there to get a tattoo. She wanted a sort of outline, with some flair, of a baby elephant. She brought a picture and he said, no problem. He colored in the entire elephant without asking her!!! Without saying a word to either of us about how he thought it would look better. No attempt to explain to her his thoughts, as the artist, about what he thought might look better. He just did it! Again, crazy unprofessional. I don't know anything about any of the other artists that work there. I can only say that there is a snowball's chance in hell that I'd ever recommend Danny to anyone, ever. I got the tattoo over a month ago. I cry over it almost every day. I miss her so much. I deserved much much better artistry for her 'memorial'. read more

I left Rising Phoenix happier than ever. I love how friendly Danny is and i love how he tries to help distract you through the tattoo with conversation. THERE IS A REASON THIS PLACE IS CHEAP. They do cheap work and have a cheap set of terrible staffing. It is genuinely disgusting how they run this shop and I cannot agree more with the countless reviews on unprofessionalism. I wouldn't recommend this shop to ANYONE. For countless reasons, starting with yes, they have quite possibly the worst management of any piercing/tattoo shop I have ever been to. I have been to countless around the states, as well as Michigan. Their front desk man talks about politics for 45 minutes and will argue with customers for no reason at all other than to debate, incredibly disrespectful and rude. I waited an hour to get pierced and then I was told by two other professional shops that not only do they use improper piercings, but they also do not know how to pierce correctly. They lie about the gauge size they use, they do not take sanitary measures and it smells like a garbage disposal inside. I had to get an emergency removal from one of the piercings they gave me A DAY AFTER and then their owner continued to disregard that there are Michigan laws on how a piercing should be done correctly and told me that they were wrong... Michigan's laws were wrong. Laws. Not even just the correction from two other shops, one out of town so this wasn't about a competition rather than safety. I hope they don't dare to reply and defend themselves because this shop should be shut down for many extremely valid reasons. Do not listen to their fake reviews; please take precautions because coming here would be your biggest mistake. Take care of yourself and speak up, because even after addressing my concerns, they take pride in trying to be right, knowing that they are wrong and putting their costumers at fault for their own shops mistakes, so don't make the mistake any of us did. There are plenty of other great shops that are worth the price and time, don't waste yours here. read more

Do not go here for any advice on piercings. I came to get a new hoop for my conch, took 20 mins to get a hoop in, then they switched it to a smaller hoop, which resulted in TWO KELOIDS and Inflammation, my ear swelled and I had to get the hoop removed because of the mis sizing. I cleaned it daily, slept on the opposite side, but my ear began engulfing due to the size of the jewlery. Apparently they cant even size a piece of jewelry, so id be cautious about getting a new piercing here. RIP my conch piercing and hello keloids and scar tissue. THANKS! Don't lie about experience... if you don't know how to help someone don't just shove something random in their ear hoping it works out. The person was flustered and didnt have any of the right tools either... even though i called ahead of time which just shows the lack of preparation knowledge. Maybe they are fine for tattoos but get a new piercer. read more

After leaving 3 other local tattoo parlors in tears while seeking an artist to do a cover-up, I was referred to Danny at Rising Phoenix by a friend. When I walked in, the staff was so friendly and caring. Danny immediately set me at ease and set to work on collaborating with me for the tattoo I've always wanted. 4 hours later, I left feeling so completely happy with the results, I knew I needed to share my experience here in case anyone else out there has a tattoo they hate and have been told there's no hope. Now, you should know, as talented as Danny is as an artist, he loves Jesus even more than that, so be prepared to hear some enthusiastic stories while you get your tattoo!! So worth it. read more

Was quoted one price and then when I went to pay it was $20 more. Also I ended up getting only the black outline with no color instead due to concern about the artist's skill level. Also there was zero aftercare instructions given. Felt like it was a tattoo mill. Zero privacy. Randos wandered thru the room during the session and that didn't seem sterile at all. Employees child screaming in the other room. I trusted others reviews. Big mistake. Final art was different than art provided. read more

Very unprofessional shop. The piercer was rude helping me when I walked in. The tattoo artist wanted me to come back at 5pm hours even though she told me to come in at 3pm for my appointment. If she was running behind schedule a phone call would have been nice.. instead of her telling me right when I get there that she's busy for another two hours.. Very unimpressed and disappointed. I got a nose and cartilage piercing here. It was very cheap, about $50 total. I was a little hesitant because of the price and I guess you get what you pay for. I didn't have any choice in the jewelry they used, which was ok because it was pretty basic anyways. But the man who pierced me wasn't very talkative- to a point that it was kind of rude. And the shop itself was a little weird. But I haven't had any problems with the piercings yet. So if you want some cheap piercings remember you get what you pay for. read more

Got a tattoo here today. I liked the artist, he gave me exactly what I wanted. He was both careful and quick - which is a rare combination. The tatt was fairly priced. I did spend a while waiting around for an artist to be available (not because they were all busy, though) - so that knocked one star off. But overall, very very good. Got my first tattoo from Danny at Rising Phoenix. Emailed him a picture, then stopped in to schedule and on the scheduled day he remembered me and what I wanted. Point #1. He sized it exactly like I wanted it and added color perfectly. Point #2 The atmosphere in the shop was relaxed and friendly. This is my first yelp ever, and I work as a chef. So I think that says something about what would motivate me to write this. My first tattoo from Danny was in 2011. A musical themed piece that I drew. He took my art, and transformed it into a killer tat. I was back in his chair a month later for my 2nd, then again a week later. Both on my forearm for all to see. I now have over 20 tattoos from Danny. Not a bad one in the bunch, he listens to what you want ,and does his best to give it to you. One time he did misunderstand me,and drew up something that was not what I wanted. He had no problem drawing something different, and didn't get all butt hurt like some artist. These people that don't like there tattoos should blame themselves. Danny always has you check your stencil before he starts tattooing something he knows will be on you forever. He reapplied one on me 4 times ! I also have a cover up that he free handed. People always ask me where I got my ink, now I just carry his business cards in my wallet. He's affordable, has a gentle hand, and most important he uses really good ink! I got a tat in G.R. on Plainfield and 5 mile and it itched for 2 f-ing years. Yes he's a talker, like any good bartender or shrink. If you don't like the subject, bring up music. You'll probably leave with some new bands to listen to.
