I saw a tattoo on a clerk at Trader Joe's and asked where she had it done. Her tattoo was absolutely beautifully detailed, much more elaborate than what I was looking for, but I figured I would check the place out. Jimmy did hers. I looked up the ratings and comments on line for the Kalamazoo/Portage area. I chose Daybreak Tattoo as well. Jessi does line art so that is who I was paired up with. I am super impressed with the outcome of my little dragonflies on my hand. I have had so many complements on the placement, subject and design (even though it is a simple one). I am also impressed on the cleanliness of the establishment and friendliness of the staff. Super kind, SUPER CLEAN. If you are looking for a great place with great people, to have your next tattoo, this is the place.

My artist was Jessi, she was amazing and completely understanding; she pointed out a few issues with my tattoo design I came in with and after walking away and experimenting on my own I realized her concerns were true. I cannot recommend Daybreak (and Nick!) enough. Great studio, very clean and very much a professional environment. This was my first large piece and Nick was great to work with throughout! I wanted a zombie Doberman (RE inspired) and he more than delivered. Everybody at the shop is just awesome to be around and I enjoyed my sessions despite the pain because of them. read more

I had a tattoo done from the OWNER a few years ago and he scared my wrist after getting a bra call and I have had sensitivity issues with it ever since. He was an asshole through the whole thing, I have since had it covered up and I'm still having issues with the tattoo he gave me 10/10 would not recommend. His attitude was completely shit too through the whole thing like he didn't care. read more

Treated me horribly! They changed the day of my tattoo 3 different times on the same day of my scheduled tattoo not even 1 hour of notice from the time of my appointments! I've gone in here twice already ON TIME! Just to be rescheduled for another day due to my artist not being there.. They finally had the courtesy to at least give me a call the third time.. I have been waiting over 2 months for this tattoo now that was supposed to be done the very next week from my deposit.. And my new date is September 18th now and they will not return my deposit.. So now im accepting my loses and finding an actual reliable tattoo shop because these guys arent it! I post this in hopes to save somebody else the trouble and terrible service I went through going here. read more

Nick is absolutely fantastic! HIGHLY recommend this artist. He's a one man band at this shop, and isn't afraid to run with your idea and make a one of a kind creation for you. My tattoo was on my hip so it required a lot of bare skin and he is very helpful in making sure you are comfortable in the shop with him. I had a wonderful experience here. Came here to get my second tattoo from Nick and he was very insightful about the size of my tattoo and how tattoos usually age. I've never heard this from any other artist, which gave me much favor with Nick. He was very honest and obviously cares about not only how his tattoos would look right after it's done, but 10 years down the line. Very happy! read more

Meet the Business Owner: Nicholas R.

Nicholas has been tattooing since 2009. He specializes in color, illustrative tattooing but enjoys doing a variety of styles including anime, black and grey, new school, and more! While he would be perfectly happy doing nothing but skull tattoos all day long, he enjoys any tattoo where he can help clients develop their idea into a great tattoo. Large projects and simple, quick tattoos are both welcome! Nick has a reputation for being honest with clients and will be the first one to tell you if he feels an idea is not something that will work out as a tattoo or will not age well. The goal is always to give you a tattoo that you will look at in 10 years and still be satisfied with!

Due to Covid restrictions, Willow aren't currently allowed to serve any drinks or snacks, but they allow guests to bring their own treats to enjoy. The management coordinated with me to provide a mani/pedi for the ladies and to call me for payment so the birthday girls didn't have to worry about payment at all. At the end of the day, Ally gushed to me about how wonderful and relaxing it was. Willow nailed it. The only thing that didn't go great is that the specific nail treatment didn't last as well as expected, but the management made it right. They gave Ally a free touch up and shellack and they reimbursed me for Emily's mani. I will gladly use them again.

Nick at Daybreak was recommended to my wife and I by another tattoo shop in town. We figured that was a good sign, so we checked him out. It was the right call. We both had an idea of what we wanted, and Nick worked with both of us to make sure the final tattoos were perfect. This was my first tattoo, and Nick was super honest about what would look good - not only when I left, but twenty years down the road too.
