History

Established in 1879.

The Rising Sun Hotel business started way back in 1879 and was on a Cobb &Co stage coach route about 60km from Brisbane to Toowoomba. The origial hotel site was at the seven mile bridge near the Bremer River but was moved to its current site in Rosewood and rebuilt in 1908. It has had quite a few owners over the last 130 odd years but none more notorius than the Sloan Family which had the hotel for the first 67 years. Here is a little history of the family printed in the Brisbane Courier ,1929. "The Sloane family have been intimately connected with Rosewood since its earliest pioneering days,and are held at the highest esteem throughout the district." During the Great depressionthe Sloans family and staff operated a soup kitchen from the back verandah for anyone in need. The Rising Sun Hotel was home to the local doctor,dentist.chemist,bank manager and Priest.All of these were treated as family often dined together,listened to the radio,played cards and sung round the piano.
