All told, we ended up trying several things on the menu, most of which were very good. We had the truffle and mushroom spaghetti (very good), sea bass (good), horse steak (yes, horse... it tasted like beef and was very good), fried cheese-and-beef-stuffed olives (pretty good), fried mixed seafood (good), a cheesy olive side dish (pretty good), pizza with mushrooms, artichokes and sausage (very good), baby octopus in a spicy sauce (good but a little fishy tasting), seafood risotto for two (excellent)... oh, and a bottle of vino della casa bianco (white house wine) every night, to boot. The wait staff was very sweet and the outdoor area was comfortable and relaxing. We loved our time in Sardinia and always looked forward to our dinners at Primo Piano.

Then the most friendly people of Sardinia just spoilt us completely and we had a late lunch that took the whole afternoon on their great outdoor terrace. The friendly staff looked a bit surprised, maybe it was the time of the day or maybe our beach look and the fact that we asked for any food they could possibly get on the table? But they came back strong and suggested a lot of antipasti and we agreed to it all. We got what we deserved I guess, they started with oysters and some bread and ham, salami, different types of cheese, some kind of lobster starter and a raw salmon starter. Then an extra table was added and they brought us octopus, some very fresh calamari, raw langoustines and a fresh mix of raw vegetables. We agreed to taste their top wine of Sardinia (which was only €18 for the bottle) and this again was super. After this a beautiful chocolate dessert and apple tart was accompanied by a nice Muscat wine (on the house). There were no other people at that moment and we got to meet the whole staff and family that worked that afternoon who were all extremely friendly. We left as friends and will love to come back here. So this is absolutely not just a pizzeria although they do pizza and the owner showed me very proudly the huge pizza oven.

I asked my hotel to call and make reservations which they did. When I showed up, that was the first thing they asked me-if I had a reservation though the restaurant never filled up more than 50%. So I'll be honest, I'm not sure why they even asked me but make a reservation! It's also a bit of a drive, being in the middle of near no where. I ordered a ravioli with fennel, the su filindeu soup, the sliced tomato vegetable dish, the porchetto, and finally for my dolce the ice cream. The ravioli might have been the best ravioli I have ever had in my life! It was was of those moments where I stopped as I didn't think ravioli could taste this good. Seriously, it was amazing and all it had was fennel inside! The su filindeu was one my top things to eat coming to Sardinia! I actually tried somewhere else but failed and didn't know they serve it here! I asked them about it and they told me currently only 2 women know how to make it. They were so happy that I had known so much about it, that they even gave me some su filindeu! How cool is that?! And of course, it's really good! The tomato dish I had with my porchetto and they both go really well together. The porchetto meat by itself is tasty, but with the skin! Heaven! Seriously, don't leave Sardinia w/o eating some porchetto. Finally, the ice cream. It was also amazing! I was so blown away at how good it was. I think among my top 10 ice creams and I've eaten a ton of ice cream! Sheesh, this restaurant really nails it. I drove all the way from Alghero (a 2hr drive) but totally worth it! Absolutely make time to eat here.

My favorite dish was the appetizer of Prosciutto di Cinghiale, cured wild boar wrapped around a filling of smoked ricotta, served with almonds and chopped seasonal fruits (pears and plums). This went especially nicely with their homemade brown seeded bread, a nice change of pace from typical plain Italian loaves. A whole section of the menu was dedicated to stuffed baked potatoes--the Boscaiola was made with cardoncelli mushrooms, smoked ricotta, pecorino, and Grana sardo; and the Chili Purpuza was stuffed with a slightly spicy combination of purpuza sausage, tomatoes, and Grana sardo. The Maxi salad was a crunchy combination of lettuce, carrots, radicchio, fennel, caramelized onions, boiled egg, goat cheese, apple, and mixed seeds. Finally, we had two of their main dishes--the Torreta di Polenta Fritta was a "tower" made of a fried carrot/pea pancake, topped with a layer of polenta, served with a sauce made of vegetables; and the Stracotto di Manzo was cubes of stewed beef served over zucchini cream. Everything we had was flavorful and delicious, and the presentation and service were definite highlights of this restaurant!

Since it's off season we are having a hard time finding the gems or popular but less touristic places. As we walked by and checked TripAdvisor (sorry Yelp, still a long way to go in some countries) I thought it might be a nice place to try. If you travel this island for some time you might have discovered that there are quite some sh*tholes here and 95 percent of the food is the same. I consider myself a pizza lover and not the greatest fish eater. But after 20 pizzas I thought "what the heck, go fish" just to discover they also had meat. I couldn't control my inner "carnivori" and ordered meat. Got a BIG piece and it was perfect. Also loved the patatos (you have to order everything separately here - don't forget) which was good. Coupled with great wine, good background music and, for the first time here, good waiters (plus their English was better then my Italiani (making the hand gesture while typing this) so that was nice for a change. They could actually tell me something about the food and wine, which is nice since that's a big part of the experience. Last but not least; great deserts and nice roof terrace (which I didn't notice from the street). It's a bit more expensive but it's worth the money. Trust me (I know what I'm doing).

We had an 8 course meal, and all of it was great. It started out with dry salami, prosciutto and bread. Then we had sauteed mushrooms in olive oil, crostini three ways, a chopped salad with truffles, awesome, and a mushroom pizzette. Following this we were served agnolotti with truffles, and linguine with mushrooms. Followed by extremely tender steak, cooked to medium rare deliciousness with thick cut french fries, and then we had a light salad to wash it down with thar was tossed in balsamic Italians eat the salad last, I thought that was interesting. During the meal we had both white and red wines, frizzante and natural water. For dessert we had Panna cotta, and another custard like dessert whose name slips my mind. And espresso. To end the meal we were served Limon cello. Following such a fantastic meal I was literally in a food coma. The restaurant had a simple yet elegant decor, and it also happens to be located in Michelangelos hometown. The views at the restaurant are supposed to be stellar, but most of Italy is a postcard, so Im not surprised. However when we dined, it was later in the evening and very dark, so I was unable to appreciate the view. Literally one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. And at only 50 euros it was an amazing deal too
