After eating at several restaurant in Florence for 9 days we took a day trip to Siena. So very glad we did and, after reading some reviews before our trip, so very glad we reserved a table at Tar-Tufo's! What a outstanding dining experience.
The restaurant is a bit off the town's beaten path but has a lovely view of the Siena hillside and surrounding countryside. It's a warm and sunny place near the windows and a cozy place further back into the vaulted dining room.
The staff is warm, friendly and very helpful in choosing dishes.
Since it was the beginning of white truffle season, and we love that delicacy, we were treated to a rolling truffle-shaving cart with each appropriate dish we chose.
The slow-cooked pheasant breast on a crispy pastry with poppy seeds, onion, blueberry juice and fresh truffle shavings was not only creative but delicious! Then tagliolini pasta with almond powder and, yes, fresh white truffles shaved before us and scattered over the dish was also a knock-out.
We also ordered the ravioli pasta stuffed with codfish, fresh chives, creamed peas and crunchy zucchini flowers - yum. And the roasted wild boar loin, herbs , demi-glace of veggie roots and mashed potatoes and carrots. It was also very good and the plate presentation was inspired.
Wish we'd had room for one of their desserts! What a great dining experience! read more
