It's amazing what hidden gems are tucked away in Rochester. I would have never known about this side street gallery had it not been for the invite I received to an event there. It's a great venue for a cocktail party - there are two rooms and could comfortably fit at least 50 people. There's a projection screen too if need be. If not for a party, you're welcome to visit the gallery during open hours. There was some impressive work displayed when I visited. What a great opportunity for the RIT students to be able to feature their hard work to the local community in the Neighborhood of the Arts. Parking can be a challenge if you don't land a spot on the College Ave. Village Gate parking lot is the next best spot, but you'll have to walk a bit to get there.

The next time I'm in the neighborhood it would be worth the short walk to see what they are showing. I attended a Rochester Print Club annual event, the space was spacious enough, two rooms, they welcomed our byo-aps and seating set up for guest presentation.

I can see why people love this place so much and even though it's not really cheap there's a lot of different and unexpected things to find in here.

They also have some apartments and a few other shops and stores I'm not as familiar with. Eclectic. East Main Clay has a nice assortment of ceramic items, including garden gnomes (& other items) that you can build a pole of. Funky tea pots, mugs, plates, and more. Hodaka Pottery on the 4th floor has lovely Japanese themed ceramics. The Hungerford Bldg had First Friday (of the month after 5) and Second Saturday days events where most of the studios and ships are open for business. Chime check them out, particularly as the holiday gift giving season iof here. Support local in the best sense of the word. The Community Design Center and Reconnect Rochester/Rochester Cycling Alliance address both noon profits dedicated to making Rochester and it's infrastructure better for ALL of her residents, regardless of their income. Anytime we visit Rochester, we have to visit the Eastman Museum. It's a great museum, featuring not…read moreonly the permanent exhibit, the house, the outdoor garden but also the rotating exhibits. Everyone is also very nice and welcoming. I absolutely love photography so I love seeing the old pictures and the cameras that took them. It's so cool to see the evolution of the camera. They also have a few movie cameras too. They also had a whole wall displaying the colors used when Technicolor was first introduced. I also like seeing how much better pictures got over time too. When we visited recently, there was a wonderful exhibit that I absolutely loved. It combined my love of flowers, horticulture and photography. It was so cool that this man grew these beautiful tall flowers across a large portion of his property and photographed it all. He also created some other beautiful pieces. I especially loved three large panels. While touring the house, you see many fascinating items from Eastman's life. It's a beautiful home. You can just imagine the parties he must have hosted there. I would love to have attended a party that he had in his dining room. He had some beautiful things. the foyer where you go to the other rooms or upstairs. He had some interesting artifacts too like his pipe organ that had around 6k pipes. I bet it sounded amazing because there were also buttons that made it sound like a whole orchestra. The gardens there are absolutely beautiful when not under construction. They have so many wonderful varieties of flowers and other plants. I can't wait to go back and see it after the construction is done. There was also a beautiful picture of Macchu Picchu outside. If you love photography, you must visit. They have a nice gift shop too.

If you're one of the world's richest men, how do you design your home? It turns out, George Eastman, best known for earning camera patents and running a multi-million dollar international firm, had a wild and wacky side. Who else would install not just a cathedral-style Wurlitzer near the central stairwell, but hire an organist to play it every morning at 08:00 as an alarm clock? He once took an African safari and decorated his home liberally with the mementos: An elephant's head is in place of pride in the atrium. Eastman's mother lived to an advanced age, and had her own wing in the house. For me, this was some of the most interesting and personal parts of the house. Her bedroom window had the best view of the formal gardens below. The nurse's quarters were adjacent to hers. The state of the art wheelchair was on display, and looking into the medicine cabinet (behind glass) were the medicine bottles she used. Raise your hand if you're surprised morphine was there? Except for the china pattern, the piano, and the furniture, Mrs. Eastman is almost invisible. Perhaps that was her preference. In summer the gardens are open to the public. There's a gallery/ photography museum next to the house on the first floor; the price of admission is covered in the same visit fee. Seniors, students, children have discounted ticket prices.

He shows his students new ways of thinking about what we really see- colors, shapes, relationships, and how it all creates an experience. I have a new way of looking at things. The Gallery is an exciting place that contains Bill's art library of books and tastefully displayed art of not only his works, but so many other talented artists. The paintings change frequently so every visit may be a different experience. Bill and his wife Linda are helping to put Caledonia on the map as an art destination. Their first community art show last fall helped to showcase the many talents of local artists. In April, the next community show will bring together area photographers. There are many reasons to spend a day in Caledonia- add The Village Gallery your list!

This is one really beautiful gallery - every inch is meticulously designed from the glossy wood…read morefloors to the bright lights shining on each piece of art on display. We came here to see Peter Pincus' ceramics show. The way they had the place laid out was ideal for perusing and each piece was better than the next. They get a cool mix of artists in this space so it's worth a stop if you're in the area or on your way back to Rochester following a few winery stops. They also have space upstairs, which features smaller pieces - lots of drawings and paintings hanging on the walls. On the first floor they have a very small store with some random supplies, books, knick knacks and gifts made by local artists including some jewelry on display. Whether or not this is something they do, it's a cool space for an event. I think they plan to host classes in the future which would be a nice addition.

Awesome exhibits, a great gift shop (really, really great gift shot), great…read morelight (you could just go in and sit and relax for hours), and right in the middle of cute Clifton Springs! I have been to 3 or 4 exhibits here in the past year (photography, watercolor, ceramics), and have been wowed by every one. They showcase a great variety of mediums, and there are usually multiple exhibits on display at a time, upstairs and down. They also have an artist in residence, and on our latest visit, we were able to meet him and get a first-hand introduction to his present project, which was really fascinating. I love to visit the gallery as part of an afternoon outing. Usually we end up spending an hour or so in the gallery appreciating all the exhibits, then we go across the street to Warfield's for lunch or dinner. Warfield's has great food, a focus on local beer and wine, and a changing, seasonal menu. It's a great way to spend an afternoon. The current exhibit featured in the downstairs gallery is of alternative photography and is definitely a must-see. As a photographer who practices several alternative styles (wet plate collodion, kallitypes, palladium printing, cyanotypes, tin types, etc) I was blown away. The subject matter, size of the pieces, different styles from photo gravure to cyanotypes to tin types, all of it is amazing. And coming up on April 1st, one of the featured artists (tin type master and alternative photography innovator John Coffer!) will have a free workshop, which is by reservation - so go see the show and sign up!

If your not a stair climber this place is not for you.. but they have cool art events, fundraisers and the like. Lots of artists show here and Dina Maria Photography has their offices here. The space for yoga is big enough to hold about 20 yogis the smaller space I am not sure. It's an older building that has charm and lovely old wood floors. The area is convenient if you live in the area and they do have parking.. if you like art and want to support local artists this is a cool place.

Sabra Wood is a clever clay artist and you may have seen her celebrity mugshot mugs around local boutiques such as Shop Peppermint. If you are ever in the studio, you can spot the artist immediately by the cute cat ears diadem she wears. She really is the sweetest human in the building and always has awesome snacks! I recommend planning a visit on this Holiday season for some local shop love and gift procurement. Your loved ones will appreciate all the quirky and funny puns.

I actually wasn't sure where to find a poster for an event…read moreand remembered this spot was on Monroe Ave. While it may be unusual for me to be on the hunt for a Ryan Gosling poster (no, I won't be hanging it in my office...), I found what I needed here without much hassle - all for $10. I'd rather buy locally than online and it was so much more convenient swinging by here on my way home. Beyond that, I've perused this shop many a time to find cool art deco prints, Rochester subway maps, and vintage magazine covers (specifically love the New Yorker ones - great gifts!). They have some stuff you might not find elsewhere and you can get it framed if your heart so desires. I usually will stop in here to check out their selection after grabbing a bite to eat at Aladdin's or elsewhere on this strip of Monroe.
