Rochester Art Supply is like an artist's candy shop OMG. They carry beautiful high quality art supplies. I can't believe I didn't find out about this place until just recently. If you dabble in art and live anywhere near Rochester, definitely check them out!! The store is well organized. They have a lot of supplies cramped into such a small space. I've only been here twice so far and the layout has been intuitive enough for me to find most of the supplies I've needed on my own. The staff is very nice and helpful. I came in with no ideas on what kind of easel I wanted but the very nice woman who helped me walked me through my different options on their online portal. There aren't any other stores around that carry the high quality oil paints that I'm looking for. They have various price points of paint. I've found some really great deals and quality paints for much cheaper than I can find them online (if I can even find those sets). I've also been able to get my hands on some limited edition sets. They also have a great selection of professional quality paint brushes and canvases. There's a greater variety of paint brands, colors, mediums, solvents than I would expect. I really couldn't ask for anything more. I'm so happy to have this gem so close to home :) very highly recommend checking this place out, even if you're not an artist. Get some pics of the gorgeous store. I'm planning on wowing all my out of state artsy friends and family next time any of them are in Rochester.

The Siren is a very unique addition to Rochester's coffee shop options! My fiance and I met up with…read moretwo friends for a coffee date on MLK day, so it was a bit more crowded than usual with the holiday. With a party of 4 it was a little tough to get a table but we eventually snagged one on the first floor. We got hot oat milk matcha lattes. My only other experience with matcha was at Happy Earth Tea which set the bar high, and I was very satisfied with the matcha flavor in our Siren lattes too. I ended up ordering a second one -- pricey but worth it. There's more seating upstairs as well, but the vibe is much quieter on the second floor than it is downstairs. I'm not sure if that's always the case, or if it just happened to be that day that more people brought work/study to that area of the shop. So if you're looking for a place to talk, your mileage may vary. Plenty of bathrooms on each floor. I will have to return again to give the book selection a better assessment, but overall the selection was varied and full enough for a shop its size. Overall this is a fun place to take a friend for coffee or for a solo date with a book. I'll definitely be back.

I was in the mood for a treat after a recent appointment, and happened to be driving by The Siren…read moreand The Sea. I've had this place on my "to try" list since then opened, so decided it was the perfect time to stop. Unfortunately, it just didn't end up appealing to me in the way I had hoped. While there are some books in the downstairs part of the store, the majority of them are upstairs. Shopping the downstairs shelves is a bit awkward because there are tables/chairs for people enjoying their goodies from the cafe... so you're maneuvering around them while trying to look at the books available for sale on the shelves. It feels like you're disrupting people. While shopping upstairs, there are a variety of smaller book sections, as well as desks, an area for kids (with bean bags), and a corner seating area for two. While I was wandering the upstairs, there was someone loudly using their phone to practice Duolingo... which, while I appreciate the desire to learn another language, would really put me off wanting to use any of the reading or work spaces upstairs. Kinda ruined the vibe. They had some cute stickers and accessories for sale on the 2nd floor, but i didn't end up getting of them because I told myself I would only purchase them if I could find at least one book to buy... and I just didn't. Anyone who knows me would tell you that it's pretty much impossible for me to not find a book of interest... but I just didn't find anything that struck me... so no books, no stickers, no reading accessories. I wandered back downstairs and thought I'd have better luck with something from the cafe, but alas... no. The cafe menu seemed pretty limited, and there were basically no pastries left (just before 2pm on a Monday). The drink that I did end up trying (their special available for that day) wasn't especially memorable either, unfortunately. TL;DR Wanted to love The Siren and The Sea, but it just didn't do it for me... might be a nice workspace, and has a generally welcoming vibe, but I actually left *without buying any books* & the cafe aspect felt very generic, unfortunately. :(
