Mind-blowing wonderful fairyland of materials for making art; I felt like I was in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The staff were extremely knowledegable. I needed some real assistance, since I am new to cold wax/oil painting and the staff had some great expert advice. When looking for collage/texture materials, she was very helpful and patient. Rochester Art Supply is like an artist's candy shop OMG. They carry beautiful high quality art supplies. I can't believe I didn't find out about this place until just recently. If you dabble in art and live anywhere near Rochester, definitely check them out!! The store is well organized. They have a lot of supplies cramped into such a small space. I've only been here twice so far and the layout has been intuitive enough for me to find most of the supplies I've needed on my own. The staff is very nice and helpful. I came in with no ideas on what kind of easel I wanted but the very nice woman who helped me walked me through my different options on their online portal. There aren't any other stores around that carry the high quality oil paints that I'm looking for. They have various price points of paint. I've found some really great deals and quality paints for much cheaper than I can find them online (if I can even find those sets). I've also been able to get my hands on some limited edition sets. They also have a great selection of professional quality paint brushes and canvases. There's a greater variety of paint brands, colors, mediums, solvents than I would expect. I really couldn't ask for anything more. I'm so happy to have this gem so close to home :) very highly recommend checking this place out, even if you're not an artist. Get some pics of the gorgeous store. I'm planning on wowing all my out of state artsy friends and family next time any of them are in Rochester. read more

Horrible customer service. I purchased some foam core for mounting vinyl prints to. I cut the piece down outside the store to fit in my truck and have the size I needed for my picture. After I put the picture on the foam core (which I have done the same way several times) the foam core covering started to bubble. I tried to bring it back for a return or store credit as obviously this was an issue with the foam core but the owner refused saying the foam core got wet and I didn't ask for help. Why would I need help if I have done this with the same product several times with no issue? And if it got wet both sides would have bubbles but that was not the case. The owner is a crabby old man who didn't even care or even apologize for the product failing. I will never shop here again. read more

I tried to order a gift card online to use in store, but it was requiring shipping so that wouldn't work. I tried to go into the store before the time they closed (time was also shown on handwritten sign on door), but the door was locked. Wish they hadn't advertised the gift cards as an alternative to going into the store if you have to have them shipped or only have the option to use them on the site. read more

So many beautiful supplies that just are not available in one place in person. The prices were extremely reasonable! The staff extremely helpful. I wish I was local to Rochester. Ordered from them on line. Didn't receive one order and a second order was missing an item no longer in stock. Hand written note stated that the amount for the missing product would be refunded since it wasn't in stock any longer. I've sent two notes and over a month later still no refund. Getting ready for the 6x6 at RoCo Art Gallery I went in looking for specific supplies. While I was able to find most of them one particular type of paint they did not carry. Luckily for me the cashier, a kind elderly woman, was kind enough to call around town to save me countless trips. Unfortunately we couldn't find the paint here in Rochester, what she did next earned the five stars. She went online found three companies that carried the paint and delivered. The entire process took less than fifteen minutes. Great service, knowlegeable staff, plenty of stock on hand, and reasonable pricing. I would recommend them to anyone. read more

Great place for discounted art supplies. They have a great collection of markers that you can't really find anywhere here in Rochester. I really liked their little rack of discounted paint brushes. There is 15 minute parking in front of their store. You can also find metered parking along close by streets. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE! I make my appearances on Saturdays so I can see Sally. She is fun, effervescent and helpful. There are hidden gems stacked here and there and the store is made to be explored. Some might call it cramped, I call it comfortable! Parking is free on the weekends and there are usually spots on the side street. read more

Not in a million years and no amount of money could make me use this online retailer again. It was the worst customer service I have ever had in my life. I didn't feel they listened, I feel I had to constantly repeat myself, I feel they were simply too busy to care about anything I said, let alone acknowledge what was clearly their (huge) mistake, and try to fix it. Even going to the supervisor, with what was clearly their mistake, on paper, meant nothing. This is THE worst art store/customer service experience I've ever had. read more

I lost my favorite little travel watercolors and went berserk trying to find them to no avail. The place that used to carry them around here no longer does and it was not easy to find them online...until I found Rochester Art Supplies. No sooner had I placed an order than they appeared in my mailbox...ok, it took a couple of days, but who's counting when they're traveling 3000 miles and I didn't specify faster shipping. This place is awesome. They have everything you can think of and some things you've never seen before. Supplies for all medias and levels. Prices are reasonable with some things on sale frequently. Helpful staff and a sort of chaotic environment that I actually like in an art store. It means they would rather have a lot of inventory for customers to choose from, than lean it out and make everything neat. This store is wonderful. It is like a great attic with all kinds of treasures all over. Great bookmaking supplies and the range of brush pens is amazing.
