Somewhere I read an article interviewing CO Governor Polis and asking him his favorite restaurants in Colorado. I recall he said in that article that whenever he is in Pueblo, a top priority is to eat at Rita's. Naturally that piqued our interest. We found Rita's with the help of GPS. It was a gas station in its previous life. We were shocked/stunned by the appearance of the restaurant on the inside. It wasn't filthy, but the concrete floor was bare and there were large objects covered by a tarp on three or four tables and crooked pictures on the walls. We wondered if there had been a water leak through the ceiling. There were approximately eight tables available for seating and three attentive waitstaff persons. Service was friendly and fine-- and the food was good. I had an open face enchilada that was nicely prepared. The green chili was more mild than I expected. However, there were some nice pieces of pork and the flavors were generally good. My wife had a bean tostada and an enchilada that she thought featured Velveeta cheese. The bathrooms continued the decor theme that was downscale to say the least. One needs to get a key from the staff to get into the women's bathroom, which is located outside the restaurant and secured with a master lock, much as you would have found in a gas station years ago. Overall, Rita's was a mixed bag. The food is decent, but if you are hoping for any type of atmosphere other than "hole in the wall," you might want to look elsewhere. We left thinking this could be an ideal choice for Robert Irvine's Restaurant: Impossible series-- and also having some doubts about Gov. Polis' s restaurant picks.

Rita's is a hole in the wall, in the best sort of way. The restaurant has been there for 40 years, and you don't get longevity like that without serving delicious food! The staff was friendly and the owner shared stories with our family as we ordered, describing her family's history at the restaurant. The food was very tasty, and the green and red chili were both delicious. That red is hot! Overall, I'd call this a local treat, and we were lucky to find it on our way through Pueblo.

Nothing special, but decent Mexican food. Wouldn't go out of my way to eat there. Nothing else to say!

The food is terrible and the service is worse. Don't eat there, they will tamper with your food.

Whenever I get breakfast for my office, they request Rita's smothered breakfast burritos. The lunch here is also good!

Giving the order over the phone was easy, the order was ready when promised, the staff was super friendly and the food was hot and delicious. I love Colorado/Pueblo green chile and Cactus Flower has some of the best. Today I ordered hot vs medium over my blue corn tortilla cheese enchiladas and it was spicy and flavorful. We also love their flour tortilla chips and salsa. No question about it, I/We will be back!

We weren't off to a great start when it took quite a while be be seated and there were many open tables. Once we sat down it still took a cool minute for anyone to come to the table. So for me to give five super stars say how good the food has to be to make up for the slow service. Chips and salsa are a telling sign on how good the food is and they more than passed the test with light chips and salsa so good I wanted to chug a gallon of it! Oh my gosh friends. I was blown away by how good the food was. I had the combo #7. Pork and guacamole, chicken and cream cheese enchilada, a fried flour shelled chicken taco, with rice and beans. I went for the mild medium green chili option and it had quite a kick! Next time, I'll stick to mild. Still, it didn't take away from how awesome it was. The taco was seriously the best taco I've ever had in my life! No kidding! I don't know how I'm going to be able to finish this review because I'm getting so hungry writing it. For dessert, I had a sopapilla. Sopapillas are one thing only a few restaurants can get just right. They should be light, airy, and puffy. These were kind of a combo of fry bread and puffy. Kinda' heavy and not too puffy, but the flavor was fantastic. They're on the pricy side at about $4.25 for one. It's good-sized, so you could spit it but you won't want to because it's so good! I believe it's a family-owned and operated restaurant, so that's super cool. Too bad I live in LA. If I lived in Pueblo I would be there all the time. Bookmark this place if you're ever passing through Pueblo. It's right of I-25 so you can have one of the best meals of your life and continue on your happy journey!

I like how they are open early and they serve breakfast all day…read more Walking in it's a small place, but enough tables. You order at the counter and they call out your number to pick up. I ordered the fajita trio Mexican bowl. I got it without tomatoes but to add the green chili. Husband ordered the combo number 20; enchilada, chile rellano, and something else I can't remember. Anyways, I can comment on mine only. It was very good. But with all the sauces; guacamole, sour cream, and green chili it became very soggy. I would probably forgo the guacamole just because I enjoy sour cream. They have a salsa bar with various salsas that I couldn't say what they were. Except for two. One tasted like very hot salsa and the other a mild home made basic salsa. Both were very good, except the hot was a little too hot, which is rare. Next time I want to try a combo as it comes with rice and beans. Cons: the salsa isn't labeled as to what each one is and it's like you have to put a little in the cups to taste it. I can see how they can get busy and no where to sit. But they have a drive thru, so that helps if the parking lot is full. The place can be a little difficult to find as it's at the end of a strip mall. Recommended? Yes. It's more fast food, but really good fast food. When I'm in Pueblo and want Mexican quickly, I would go here.

Writing this as I sit waiting for my pickup order that I placed about an hour ago for a 12:30pm…read morepickup. The parking lot was very full around noon on a Wednesday but the restaurant only had a few tables full and no one in line. They did have dance tracks playing at about 3 ticks too loud for the occasion and setting. After waiting for a little over 5 minutes, my food was brought out to the tunes of Lady Gaga's poker face. Not horrible but I am pretty sure they did not start assembling my food until I arrived which is not great...here is to hoping the food is good... Later....So, I ordered the chicken enchiladas combo plate and a fish taco. The taco had an appropriate serving of fish with decent flavor and texture with the fresh toppings. I only got the sour cream in my first bite and it definitely could have used more but the taco is still tasty without. Tortillas are good. Upon first glance the enchiladas looked decent. As they say, looks can be deceiving! I always get chicken enchilads when ordering for the first time at a Mexican style restaurant as I think they are a good indicator. Refried beans need salt and fat badly. Rice is ok but also dry. Now, the star of the show the supposed "chicken" enchilads. Wow in the worst possible way. First, there is not a shred of chicken amongst the unmelted pre shredded "Mexican cheese blend". Not only that but I found a single piece of meat that is not chicken and most likely is pork. Luckily I do not have any dietary restrictions but if you do beware. I may try reheating these terrible excuse for enchiladas later so I can at least melt the cheese and pretend I ordered cheese enchiladas without chicken, which I would never. The enchiladas alone deserve a zero star review. Disappointing. Giving two stars for the fish tacos okness and lady gaga. Will not be back. Do not recommend.
