Will never come here again. Cheap...and there's a reason. Every single tee box is trashed. They aerated and left the plugs in making it a muddy mess. Stop over watering! 8 minute times are not ideal when you have walkers and carts. This could be a nice course if their grounds crew knew what they were doing. So disappointed. read more

I used to come here years ago, when i lived in Lisle it was close and convenient. Went there today and apparently rubbed the cashier the wrong way about questioning if I had already paid online. Proceeded to give me quite a bit of attitude over a simple question. Talking down to me and just being a grumpy old man about it. He asked me if we had a problem and I'm just baffled at this point as to what his deal is and said "no problem at all, was just a question as it was confusing." Some people just don't need to be in a public setting and he was one of them. Don't think we'll be going back. Many other places can answer a question without being completely rude about it. read more

Two stars because the course is nice, however, the middle aged gentleman at the front desk is rude and does not seem to have a customer driven attitude towards business. Specifically, he asked me "what is wrong with you" because I showed up 2 minutes before tea time which I apologized for being late. In addition, I'm newer to the sport so i wasn't aware I couldn't share my brothers clubs. When he asked if I had clubs I said I typically share with my brother and he responded angrily stating "'NO NO NO, NOT ALLOWED, you NEED to rent clubs." Course is generally in rough shape, and poorly designed. Many tee boxes face directly into opposing fairways and fore! Calls can be heard constantly. Pro shop worker with glasses is generally unhelpful and pretty rude, speaks with a condescending tone. Price is affordable. Wouldn't golf here again, staff is unbearable. read more

This is by no means an easy 9 hole course. Right from the first hole the fairway slants from left to right and there is a creek that collects a lot of balls and if you are having a bad round holes 7&8 will finish you off. I will say the staff is your typical public 9 hole course staff that works for minimum wage and free golf. They are all retirees that seem to miss the little bit of authority they had when working. Bunched up tee times. People not even sure if their tee times were actually scheduled? Confusing system. And it would of taken 3 hours to finish 9 holes...? Tee time was pushed back 20 minutes for no reason, just the simple fact they schedule as much as physically possible making it a pretty brutal on course day. Not worth the trip/time at all. Beautiful golf course! I have only played golf here a couple times but I've been very satisfied with both visits. The pro shop staff is friendly and professional while making the tee time over the phone and in person. I noticed the new "golf bike" while I was there earlier this week. The guys in the pro shop were very excited to show us how it worked. LOVE the idea but I don't think I'm ready for biking a golf course quite yet! This is a 9 hole course so many people walk but riding carts (& bikes) are available. The entire course is beautiful and well maintained. I saw the cart girls out and about while we were playing. They were available and quick to get you drinks and let you keep playing. They were friendly and made sure to tell us they would still be out if we needed anything else. Overall--challenging course and professional staff! I will be back soon and hopefully I will play a little better!! read more

Best 9 I've played. Now I play it a few times a week either alone if I'm looking to get in & out or I'll jump in with a few old timers to get some stories out of em...I suggest everyone do that at least once by the way. Good to play the night before a challenging 18. Only negative is those awful bikes they let people ride around there. Do whatever you can to not be stuck behind a foursome of non-English speaking women on these bike caddy thingamabobs...I tried asking if they minded if I passed them and they just smiled and got on those god forsaken bikes. I didn't want to offend them...not sure how their culture views jumping a hole or driving a 3 wood 280 off one of their heads while riding one of those just completely awful for he game of golf bike cadets up & down the fairways looking for a ball that clearly went into the first hazard it crossed... But Im pretty sure they were guests in our country and who am I to intrude on there fun..luckily the ranger is a cool guy and didn't mind if went back a few holes so I didn't have to keep waiting around. read more

I came to River Bend at 1pm this Wednesday afternoon and the course was dead quiet. I had the day off with my wife who is 7 months pregnant, who somehow I convinced to come ride in the cart when I played 9 holes. I would normally walk the course, but since my wife came with today I decided I'd get a cart. When I asked if it would be ok if my wife could ride in the cart with me (she's not a golfer), the gentleman working informed me that it would be a $5 fee to have her ride. A total of approximately $40 for round + cart + rider fee (For 9 holes!!). In the past on quiet weekday afternoons I've had my wife come ride with me multiple times at different courses, and have never had a club try to charge me to have her tag along. I asked the gentleman working if there was any way he could waive the fee, especially since the course was so quiet, but he declined. I even asked him if I could walk (which I did not mind) and my pregnant wife would pay for the cart fee and ride, and he told me that was not possible either. I declined to pay the ridiculous $5 fee for having my wife tag along as an observer, and told the Pro Shop gentleman that we would go play somewhere else. We ended up going to Village Greens of Woodridge and played a nice 18 holes (with no rider fee!) for the same price of $40. I understand that some courses might have a rider fee on paper, but did feel offended that it couldn't be waived on a Wednesday afternoon for my pregnant wife. Wish we could have been better accommodated. read more

I just played my last round here and won't be back. Twice Ive walked off the course as its soooo slow and pace of play is not managed. They were already 25 minutes behind on tee times at 10:30 in the morning. They need to change to 10-15 minute tee times instead of 8. If you have 3-4 hours to waste for 9 holes, go enjoy. Oh, and to top it off, my friend couldn't make our tee time and I got charged for his tee time through "Golf Now". I called and asked why I was charged for my friend emergency and they said I have to talk to Golf Now to clear it up. I didnt even use Golf Now, I used their website to book the tee time. The staff didnt help at all...so much for customer service. read more

The best 9 hole I've ever played. Whenever, I hear 9 hole course, I think of some simple municipal 9 hole courses which are straight, simple and not much fun. But this is the most difficult 9 holes I've ever played. Layout 5 holes has some kinda water hazard on them. There are 2 par 5 and the rating of this course is like 70. So definitely, this is the best and most difficult 9 hole course I've played. The greens are like championship green which are very difficult to read. Crowd So here's the catch, because it's a muni course and it relatively inexpensive, you are gonna wait. Bottomline Fun, challenging and inexpensive. This course is really cool, even though there is enough water on the course to be in play on 8 of the 9 holes. Bring PLENTY of water balls! After a few rounds here, surprisingly I haven't gotten any balls wet (I did *not* say I haven't lost any balls, just haven't put any in the drink...yet). It's a really nice course, they take great care of it, and the prices are pretty good. If you're in the burbs and lookin to do 9 holes, check it out, I think you'll like it. read more

Last Thursday was my first time coming to this course and it was an overall wonderful experience. The man in the pro shop was so sweet. I paid for me and the other 4 some I was golfing with and he was like what a nice lady. I also offered to pay him cash since his credit care machine was being slow. I felt so bad for him but he was able to get it through it and also I was so helpful on explaining where to get the carts and Where everything was. I then came back in to buy alcohol with my 3 other friends and he said to them you owe this lady money and he goes wow now you're buying more. He was so such a jokester and made my first time great. Such a nice man at the pro shop. My only complaint would be that we didn't know which was the first whole was the man didn't do a good job explaining where it was especially since it was the first time at the course. Other than that overall a great course and a little challenging for a 9 hole course. read more

Customer service was Horrible. We made it to the FIRST green and the Ranger was already getting on us for being too slow. First words out of his mouth were "Is there a problem here?" Completely rude. We are seasoned golfers and we were playing a normal pace. At hole 7, he again returned and became verbally confrontational. We all became very angry. He kept yelling "2 Hour 14 Minute pace!" We had let another group play through that had only 3 golfers, so we were 5 minutes off pace. I've golfed for 30 years and have NEVER been treated so poorly by a ranger. My foursome will not play this course ever again. Judging by other reviews, this is a normal occurrence. read more

This course is a hidden gem. It is well maintained, staff is courteous and very helpful. It will test every level of player. And as a bonus it has a wonderful restaurant attached to it, Wheatstack, that has a large deck overlooking the course to relax after your round and have lunch. Tight course but could be fairly decent if they knew how to run it. Every time I have played here it is backed up, so backed up that it takes about 3 hours to play 9 holes. The starter will openly say that people arrive late and that he still lets them play, so he has to jam in groups and it delays everyone. Today he said that a group was supposed to tee off at 7:36 but they didn't arrive til closer 8:10 and he still let them play, so things might be slow. Are you kidding me? That's horrible. On top of that, the ranger just drives around the course not paying attention to anything and will run right across the fairway when you're about to hit and continually tells groups to move faster. He never takes the time to check and see who the slow group is and then ask them to skip a hole, instead he yells at everyone to move faster. Overall they could have something good but their operations are horrible. read more

Nice little course, very regulated the guys running course make sure it's moving and are always cruising around making sure your etiquette is good lol. Easily walkable lots of water and out of bounds in any high grassy area because it is federal wetlands. read more

I'm going to disagree respectfully with Tommy and Brian. This was a very forgettable course for me, goose crap everywhere, not maintained all that well. I will say, however, that the fish fry at the 19th hole was some of the best I've ever had. Definitely would return to the restaurant for that. read more

This course has always yielded unpleasant experiences for me. Play is very slow. There is goose poop everywhere. Do not wear your favorite shoes or pants. The course does not have a driving range and prices are exorbitantly high considering the overall low quality of golf. Someone would have to pay me to play here again. read more

I was looking for a place to play a quick 9 holes with a good friend of mine early in the morning. We stumbled across this course on a golf booking sight and decided to give it a try. Upon arriving we were told the course was too wet to use carts and we would have to walk. I was a little confused since it has barely rained and has been dry for weeks. At the same time I understood and I am all for keeping up the condition of the course. The gentleman said he would have to charge us for the carts but the booking service would have to credit us back. Seemed kind of weird but I took his word since he has been through it more than me. We walked the course which was like walking through a marsh. Other than the wetness the course was very nice. The customer service was not the greatest. Upon finishing I had to put my pull cart back and there was a kid working putting them in. When I tried to hand him the cart he just walked past me and inside. Sure I'll put my own away but I have never experienced anything like that at any other course. There is a reason I pay more for other courses. I will continue to pay the higher fees for the service I get. Should I add hat when I called the booking service they said the course should have not charged me for the cart since I was paying there. The experience left a bad taste in my mouth and I will not return. Shame on you guys for trying to squeeze every cent out of us. Thank you for giving me a reason to continue to play 18 instead of 9. read more

I'm giving this a 2 because of the price from Groupon and the course and grass was nice. It was the staff that was a problem. I was very excited last night when I booked a tee time at 6:32am, Early enough that we will not cause a delay to others. My kids, out of their own savings, bought a father's day golf present where all 4 of us (my wife and 2 kids) would play. On the way there, I told the kids that we will have to play best ball so that we do not cause delay to other golfers. At the first tee box, we were RUDELY met by some guy who was probably the marshal, and said that we need to make sure that we are no more than 15 minutes per hole and that we shouldn't even have been allowed the tee time given that there is a golf outing following us. This really did not go well with me and I even told him that we were playing best ball anyhow. Anyhow, I played the worst golf game this summer and was rude to my kids as I was hurrying them up all through out. We ended up skipping holes and from the 6th, we went straight to the 9th. This same marshall showed up again and told us that we skipped to the 9th and that the 7th was at another hole. I told him that it didn't matter and that our games and our day was ruined from the start due to his rudeness. He just drove away. Sadly for this course that it is not a family friendly atmosphere. They offer lessons which I even considered for the kids upon going in the proshop when we checked in. So disappointed and I felt so bad for my kids and my behavior throughout the game. I wish I was able to control myself and just walked away from the course before tee off rather than me getting mad at my kids to speed up their game. I would consider this the worst moment in golf for me. So disappointed. I took my family out somewhere and tried to make up and redeem the day somewhere else. read more
