We chose this venue for our wedding because it is genuinely gorgeous and has so much potential. Unfortunately, the way the venue was managed before and during our wedding caused unnecessary stress and took away from what should have been one of the most enjoyable days of our lives. We were repeatedly given specific assurances throughout the planning process that were either changed at the last minute or not followed through on. This included the bridal suite access, musicians and speaker equipment, name tags, catering, parking, cleanup, seating arrangements, and items we were told would be available through the venue. The parking situation was especially unacceptable. We were repeatedly told that we had two roped-off parking spaces outside the venue. This was even confirmed during our rehearsal. We relied on that information when planning and even rented additional parking spaces because of it. Then, on our actual wedding day, we were told we could not use the two roped-off spaces we had been told were ours. This happened in front of our wedding party while we were trying to figure out where we were supposed to park. Having information that had been confirmed multiple times suddenly changed on our wedding day was extremely frustrating and embarrassing. We were also told the venue could comfortably accommodate 250 people, only to later be told that tables would need to be broken down. This ultimately affected our guests and contributed to people leaving earlier than expected. We were also told the venue had a catalogue of items available to use, only to find out closer to the wedding that certain items were unavailable or that there weren't enough of them. These are things that should have been communicated accurately from the beginning. We also paid extra for coordination, paid for the classic bar selection, and rented from the venue. For the amount of money we spent, we expected a much higher level of organization, professionalism, and service. Instead, the experience honestly felt like a rip-off. The bar service was also disappointing. The beer provided was very low quality, and the bar staff appeared inexperienced. Several of our guests commented on this as well. Another major issue was the management itself. Unfortunately, our interactions with the owner, Loren, often came across as passive-aggressive, dismissive, and unnecessarily confrontational, particularly when we raised legitimate questions or concerns. We were not looking for special treatment--we were simply asking for the things we had been told we would receive. Several of our guests also independently commented on feeling uncomfortable with Loren's demeanor and the way he interacted with or looked at people throughout the evening. Cleanup also began before 11:30 PM while guests were still present and the event was still going, which made people feel as though they were being pushed out before the celebration was actually over. We understand that no wedding is going to be perfect. Things happen, and we would have been completely understanding of minor mistakes. The problem was the number of issues, the lack of communication, and the fact that many of these were things we had specifically confirmed ahead of time. We paid for coordination. We paid for a bar package. We paid for rentals. We planned our wedding based on the information we were given. We should not have had to spend our wedding day dealing with issues that could have easily been prevented through basic organization and communication. The venue itself is beautiful, but unfortunately, beautiful surroundings do not make up for poor management and poor customer service. Based on our experience, we would not recommend this venue for a wedding. Our disappointment has nothing to do with the beauty of the property--it is entirely about the management, communication, professionalism, and the overall level of service we received for the amount we paid.

Having both the ceremony and reception in the same building was also so convenient for us and our guests. The bar service was excellent. The bartenders were fast and friendly, the coordinator and staff was amazing to work with, and Distinctive Catering did a fantastic job. Great food and Drinks, and even helpful service with buffet. We also loved the DJ they recommended through Complete Wedding + Events. The day-of coordinators were especially wonderful -- they did such a great job converting the ceremony space into a lounge area during cocktail hour while incorporating all of my decor used in the ceremony to the reception perfectly. The two white, male bartenders assigned to her event were not friendly to the guests, creating an off-putting atmosphere right from the start. To make matters worse, several guests overheard the bartenders making racial comments about probably not receiving any tips. This behavior is utterly unacceptable, disgusting and was clearly racially motivated. Given that their wedding was attended primarily by Black and Brown guests we knew exactly why they said it! Absolutely a racist trope that we don't tip or tip well. Multiple guests complained to the bride, groom and/or someone in wedding party about this. It is deeply troubling that a venue they entrusted with such a special occasion would employ individuals who clearly harbor racial bias. All I will say is that minority couples need to be aware. No one should have to worry or deal with this bs on their special day nor should their guests.

Deb makes fresh chocolate chip cookies which are amazing The neighborhood itself is great - Heritage Hill - a neighborhood of 1000 homes all older than our great grandparents :) Within a 10 minute walk to the east you'll find half a dozen or so restaurants and bars and one of the jewels of the neighborhood - Art of the Table - which has spirits and tons of unique foods and knick knacks. Downtown is only a 20 minute walk if that's what you fancy. Rates were half of rooms downtown but with double the charm and service Look forward to coming back again!

This hall is one of several on the West side of Grand Rapids that is normally members-only. During Pulaski Days, all of the halls in town are open to the public and everyone can buy drinks at the bars in each hall. There was a $5 donation (cover fee) to enter, which I thought was reasonable. The hall has two floors - the first floor was mostly tables and people waiting at the bar, and upstairs was a DJ, dance floor, and food ordering window as well as several long tables set up for people to sit and eat. In order to get drinks, you had to purchase tickets for $2. Most of the drinks were reasonably priced at 2-3 tickets each. Upstairs was pretty crowded, but we managed to find some seats. Overall, a decent spot to visit for Pulaski Days. Parking can be scarce in this area since it's mostly residential, and it looked like there was another event happening at the basilica nearby. Be prepared to park on a side street and walk a bit.
