I purchased a Stihl backpack blower. I was working with one individual when a second employee came over to take over the interaction. I was offered the "double warranty" (which in my mind translated to "pay more for something I'm unlikely to use"). The second individual took the blower to the back to "test it". He placed fuel in the tank, tried it, came out and sent me on my way. Within one hour of use (which included emptying the fuel tank) the blower stopped working. When I took it in, I was informed that offering me the double warranty was their speak for the use of a fuel additive. The blower is fried and the cost of a repair exceeds the $545 I paid for it. One of my joys in life is going to the hardware store. I like to wander around and hunt for all of the things on my list. The River Falls Ace Hardware is one of the best hardware stores I have ever been to. There is always lot of help if you need to find some oddball bolt or part. The staff all have radios and will locate anything you need in seconds. The did expand some and now have more square feet of hardware. This location also has an excellent rental selection. I have rented many items from them over the years. Only reason they lost a star is for their pricing on some of their items is a little bit on the aggressive side. I don't expect them to be Menards cheap but they could try to at least price things a little bit more affordable. read more

I went in to try and find a chainsaw chain for my father who couldn't go in himself. I learned that I should have brought in the entire chainsaw which is great to know for future needs, but service was borderline condescending and sure made me feel like an idiot for not have the specs available. Would have much preferred a "Don't worry we'll help you figure it out" as opposed to the "You'll have to get me more information for me to be able to help you". I'd been struggling to get a screw out of a saddle for a week and ended up stripping the head. I walked into this store with the saddle and immediately someone was able to help me. He was super good-natured about the whole thing, got the screw out, and found me a replacement, all within a few minutes. I can't recommend this place more! read more

Appreciate the customer service at this store! I called in a bind needing a screen door repaired within just a few days (normal service is 5-10 business days). The gentleman who does the repairs said he would make it happen. I dropped it off and he had it ready for me by the next morning. He was so kind and helpful when I picked up as well! I have always enjoyed going to the hardware store, often a needed break during a frustrating project to pick up parts or get a few tips and ideas to get things done around the house. The Ace in River Falls has been awesome on all accounts, they are always there when I need something. The Ace in River Falls has also been a huge supporter of our local Scouts, getting in supplies the boys need for the Pinewood derby cars and inviting them over to help with the dog stand at their open house giving the boys a great chance to be involved and earn a few bucks for summer camp. Just purchased a new Weber grill. Samuel was great in helping me get it ordered as they didn't have it in stock and got one on the truck right away. As the grill was over $399 they also assembled it for me and delivered it, which based on the assembly instructions that came with it probably saved me at least a few hours of frustration! They also delivered it and brought it up the stairs to my deck which again would have been quite difficult/impossible to do without two people. Can't wait to use the grill for the first time tonight. I am a DIY-er. As a female, I feel as if the staff is thinking when I walk in, "What the heck is *she* doing here, looking at plumbing parts?!" The owner is cranky, too. I entered the store recently, headed right for the spray paint. I knew what I needed because I had bought the same product there just the day before. The owner spat at me, "Can I help you" in an aggressive way. I said, "Nope, I'm good." He said, loudly, "What?" And I said, louder, "No, I know what I'm looking for, thanks." And he said in a cantankerous, p*ssed off kind of way, "Well, are you SURE?" Again, I felt like he was implying that because I have a uterus, I couldn't possibly know where items are or what I even need. I will NOT be shopping there ever again. Which is a shame because I generally try to shop local. I am thinking about sending an anonymous letter to them, expressing my feelings and experiences (not a rant). read more
