Came here for the first time this past weekend for a baseball tournament…read more Positives: -Friendly people working -Good parking (though we had early game) -Clean restrooms and grounds -Well behaved pups allowed -Stadium seating -Food/restrooms right next to the fields -Full bar if that is a plus for you Negatives: -Turf has seen better days, but repairs to areas have been made in most areas and about the norm for most of these tournament fields in the bay area -Usual high prices for food and not allowed to bring own food in -Must go up and down stairs around the snack building to get to the adjacent field unless you walk further behind the building to the center of the complex and then back over to the fields - just a weird set up to not have a level transition around the building and adjoining the fields

I recently visited BLD for fun to watch whatever soccer game was going on. THE AMOUNT OF DRINKING AROUND CHILDREN??? should be considered unacceptable. People reeked of alcohol.. and it was extremely unpleasant. To add on, I was interested in reffing for the summer so I thought, "Hey, why not ask the score keeper how I can become a ref for indoor soccer in the summer?" The worker told me to talk to Justin in the front office, and so I made my way. Justin offered me an interview the following day at 5pm. I pulled up around 4:40pm, and he said, "The guy giving you the interview will be here in about 10 minutes." I asked, "Is it okay if I go on the swings while I wait?" He agreed. First of all those swings are falling apart, THEY ARE DANGEROUS AND THEY NEED TO BE UPDATED. The entire metal ROD/BAR moves as your swinging. To give a visual, I'm about 5'1" and weigh less than 150 pounds. ANYWAYS MOVING ON TO THE INTERVIEW: IF YOU ARE A WOMAN I WOULD STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. Once my interview actually started which btw, I'm 28 years old, I teach 5th grade and I have TONS OF EXPERIENCE. However, this man who was giving me the interview BARELY LET ME SPEAK. It seemed that I asked more questions than he did... which was shocking. I learned more about him in the short 10 minutes that I was there. In other words he said, "You probably can't handle it." Little does he know the amount of trauma and experience I have working with all types of ages and people. However, he would never know since he WOULDN'T ASK ME QUESTIONS OR LET ME SPEAK. Stay far away from this business. It's terrible, and don't even get me started on Roy.

I lived in a very violent part of the city, so going to a place to escape all that while being able to study, hang out with friends and make new ones was amazing for my youth development. Fast forward to now, and I had move here to Central Valley with my family, after finding out through a Chamber of Commerce flyer we had one right here in Manteca. I went over to meet the staff and learn about what this location had to offer. For a membership price of $60 a year, my kids had access to homework assistance, STEM activities, Taekwondo 2 day of the week, Local Sports such as basketball, soccer and football. You couldn't find a better placed $60 dollars, and I know this as my children spend way more on Robux and Fortnite skins. I had also learned the staff is trained to handle children with ASD and ADHD which is another plus for those parents who aren't certain about putting their children in an unknown setting. They allow a day pass trial before you sign up so if youre curious to see how your kids about it, have them check it out and then talk about it on the car ride home. There are tremendous social benefits to being a member of the Boys and Girls club, and this location's staff is very friendly and welcoming.

I've never felt more uncomfortable or unwelcome in a retail store. From the moment my three friends…read moreand I walked in, the atmosphere was hostile. A female employee was aggressively slamming doors, throwing a ladder onto the floor, and repeatedly giving us dirty looks. It felt intentional and incredibly disrespectful. We are all brown, and it was impossible not to notice that white customers were being treated normally while we were ignored. I was waiting at the counter to purchase ammunition, and despite clearly being ready to buy, no one acknowledged me or offered help. It felt like we simply didn't matter. The combination of rude behavior, lack of customer service, and the clear feeling of racial discrimination made this a terrible experience. No one should feel profiled or unwelcome while trying to shop. I will not be returning, and I strongly recommend management address this behavior immediately. This happened on 1/26/26 around 2:00pm

This was honestly the best decision I have ever made. They just have so much stuff in here. I spend most of my days by the bowling section just looking around and chilling and vibing. The handsome gentlemen that works the shoe section is always eager to help. The cashiers are always so friendly and joyous. It's like I'm not even in Manteca anymore and like I get teleported to awesome sauce ville. Wow I feel so happy just talking about this place. Oh how I love it so. Every day I wake up and scream with excitement knowing that I'm driving straight to Big 5. Thank you for always being there for me Big 5 Manteca, and I will always be inside you.

After many months of being outcasted by this nightmare of a place I am ready to share my…read moreexperience. This is my experience as a parent to other parents, I am not in need of a response from any person affiliated with this place. The director and the owner lady (her picture is seen here as owner) are fake frauds. They smile and say all the correct things until they no longer like you. When attempts were made to work directly with the teacher, it seemed great, but not to these two ladies, next day I was asked by them to meet so they could tell me bluntly we are going to dismiss you and your child from our center, sign here, let's go collect your child's items. Okay bye! A household with two working foster parents. This was a foster child. Oh yeah, It was a no go to have a county social worker visit child at the site...huge red flag. Can't begin to express the hardship they made me go through when asked if my child could be given albuterol for asthma. Christian compassion?! What a joke. I pray their ministry is better than the practice of their child care center. God bless this place, for they know not what they do.

Our daughter…read morehas been attending Refuge Christian Preschool since November 2023, and I must emphasize that both my wife and I are very protective--some might even say too protective. In fact, I am often referred to as a helicopter mom. Initially, we planned to homeschool our daughter because we believed we were the only ones who could ensure her safety and care. However, as she grew older, we noticed her longing for more social interaction, especially since her sister is significantly older, and the only time she was really able to socialize with children her age was during Sunday classes at church. So, we decided to look around and see if we could find a place that felt right. After some research and a few school tours, we found Refuge. The school administrator, Lisa, was absolutely welcoming and wonderful. Based on our impression, their mission statement, and feedback from our daughter, we decided to enroll her. Fast forward to today, I must express how completely satisfied we are--actually, satisfied is an understatement. We are beyond pleased with the amazing people dedicating their time to our daughter and all the kiddos! The level of love from the director, Ms. Dina, and teachers Ms. Jodene, Ms. Alexis, and Ms. Natalie is something every parent prays for when leaving their child in the hands of someone else. They are excellent at communicating with parents, go above and beyond to make the kiddos feel safe, and the special events they create are truly magical. I am the kind of person who is an overthinker and can usually point out anything that is not right, or tend to correct things that are not being done as I would do them when it comes to our children. But with the nurturing teachers that our little girl has and Ms. Dina overseeing it all, I can honestly say there hasn't been any cause for concern. I actually feel a sense of ease dropping her off at school every morning, and for me that is definitely saying a lot!!! Some highlights for us include the growth we've seen in our daughter, the excitement she shows when she tells us about her day, and the scriptures she learns and recites. There are so many amazing things I could say about Refuge, Ms. Dina, Ms. Jodene, and Ms. Alexis, but the best testament is that our daughter genuinely loves them, and that means everything to us! We've been happy with many decisions we've made, but enrolling our daughter at Refuge is by far one of the best!
