I played the Victoria Lakes course. The course itself was very nicely maintained, and it was beautiful... but... maybe I just got spoiled by the electronic displays that you usually get nowadays... this place didn't have them on the carts and it was a little inconvenient because we had to use our range finder more than we normally would... And I'd say that the directions to tee boxes weren't the most clear... Final complaint... it was slowwwwwwww that day. read more

Played the Vineyard Course on Monday, June 22. The staff was great and overall the course was in good shape and well maintained. The only issue I had was with the sand traps which were either soaked and sometimes with puddles or dried out like cement. There are a good number of traps on this course with many in front of and around the greens. I don't have any issues with that but if you're going to have so many traps, maintain them and keep them playable! Wet sludge or cement are not playable conditions. read more

There's no sand in 90% of the bunkers. Other than that, the course is pretty nice. If you hit into a greenside bunker just know, you'll be hitting out of clay, not sand. I'm a golf purist & like to play the ball as it lies but I end up taking a drop if I hit it in a bunker, and I'm a good bunker player! Last time I checked sand is cheap! Pony up & put sand in the bunkers and you'll get 4s without question. read more

Positives: Beautiful course! Ocean breeze keeps you cool as it's close to the beach! USB port on cart for charging your cell phone, etc. Two courses to choose from. Fair pricing! Great, friendly staff! Negatives: No GPS on carts, no built-in cooler to keep your drinks cold, no ice maker for previously mentioned lack of cooler(bring your own, I guess!), no sand with seed to repair divots on carts. Come on, guys. Cut and roll the greens every once in a while. And put sand in your bunkers. And take the rocks out of your bunkers. Somebody is gonna get hurt by a rock flying out of one of those things. I know golf has such a demand in SoCal that people will always play, no matter what the condition is, but take some pride in your course. read more

The Lakes course has a challenging layout with beautiful views of the surrounding area. Plenty of water and length to require strategic shot making. Only negative were the greens ( no ball marks) are slow because they've never been rolled. read more

Played today. I have played golf on cow pastures that were in better shape. Today the end had not been mowed for at least 2 days, many greens were damaged and the rough area mowed grass was not picked up. I have played at RR golf club for over 20 yrs but I will never play RR again...period. American Golf mgt company should be terminated immediately by the city of Ventura. read more

I posted a review some time back, January I think. It's so disappointing to see the condition of the victory lakes course now. The mowers just leave all the cut grass in the rough, u can easily see different cut heights in the fairways and the greens are a joke. American Golf ruin another golf course(s). They don't maintain the courses. For example, (1) sand traps are a joke, (2) rough has no definition, (3) some areas are 8 inches deep and random so being little offline causes a lost ball, (4) grass clippings are not pick up so even when in the middle of the fairway you are in the rough read more

So let's start at the range since you are there first anyway. The range is the worst range I've ever seen. You cannot see where your balls are even going as they go down into a trench so if you're trying to get distance, you will never know. There is a bunch of old metal poles sticking up everywhere on the range. Standing on the hitting mats looking down the range You have about a 2 foot mound in front of you. A little bit of grading would go a long way. The chipping green is absolute joke. The golf balls provided look like they have been sitting in mud. Now onto the golf course the courses are managed fairly well except for the bunkers feel like concrete when you're hitting out of them. The pace of play is horrible and you are paying $75. read more

Played the Victoria Lakes course today and was very disappointed. New about the work being done on the work being done on the collars of green (which will be nice when grown in). But did not know about the punching and verticutting of fairways Look like they could be baling hay. First few greens in ok shape from eighth hole on forgot about it. Auto two putt recommended. Played Victoria Lakes today. I thought it was fun and challenging, not in the best shape but for $55 to walk on a weekend, reasonable. My biggest concern is there is not a marshall or ranger in sight. People chop this course up, don't repair ball marks or divots, round was 5 hours 15 mins 8:45am tee time. That is ridiculous. Charge me another $5 and hire some rangers. read more

I actually like this course, but I'd recently booked a round there, with cart included (this detail is important), as it stated on their website. When I got there to check in, the woman by the name of Susan told me that they were out of carts. Understandable, it happens. So naturally, we proceeded to ask to use push carts that we could use to walk with- a very common item at most golf courses- and they said that they were also out of those. Now keep in mind- it was not very busy, at all. Every tee time after ours and at least 6 tee times before ours were open, so this seemed odd that every single cart and push cart were unavailable. We then asked if the we could change our reservation to play just 9 holes, since they were no longer able to honor the original reservation that we'd made, and we would not have access to the equipment (cart) that was advertised, booked as part of the reservation, and charged to my credit card. To my chagrin, Susan replied by telling me that it was my fault for not calling ahead, even though their website said that there were carts available, and charged me as such. Funny enough- we actually did call ahead, but nobody answered and it went to dial tone. Regardless, their website showed carts available. What is the point of having online booking if the expectation is that you have to also call them to book? Susan then told me "Sorry, I won't be giving you any of the help that you're looking for. You should have called me." At that point I just asked to cancel, and Susan just said "Ok. Go have fun doing something else then." Now look, I understand that things happen and sometimes you just have to be flexible. I totally get that, and am more than happy to adjust plans as needed. But to offer something, then not honor it, then try to charge the same amount of money to people that were more than happy to work with them around their mistake, and then have Susan treat us poorly as though we made any sort of mistake is just wrong. There was no reason for Susan to not let us at least play 9 holes, when really, they were the ones who made the mistake of offering carts and charging for them, even though there were none available. This golf course owes me nothing. Susan owes me nothing. I get that. But I've had situations very similar to this one happen dozens of times before, and every single time the courses have been more than willing to work with us when they make a mistake with our reservation. Susan is the only person I've come across who not only refused to help, but then treated us poorly. I just wanted to get this out there so that others don't find themselves in the same predicament that I did. Or at least know that if you book a tee time here, they may change the terms of your reservation without notification, expect you to pay the same price, and then blame you for it. Not only will I never play at this golf course again, but I will actively warn others against ever visiting and spending money at this establishment. River Ridge Golf Club didn't just lose a customer today. They gained an enemy. read more

Unfortunately, this course is in the midst of a steady decline in the quality of the course and it's staff. Please end the excuses and concentrate on improving. Spend the money! Put in the effort! If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. This place is not kid or family-friendly. My husband who is a frequent golfer in the community will no longer be supporting this business as the way the staff treats people does not align with our values. Not to mention, the restaurant needs a substantial upgrade with more culturally diverse offerings. FYI, most of the menu items look like they taste like cardboard are are not appropriate for those with sophisticated palates who desire flavorful options. Step it up, folks! read more

It's tough to write a yelp! review for a golf course. How fine of a day on the links is governed by the weather, your playing partner, who you get paired with, your health, how well you played and who pays for the round. Throw in COVID-19 rules, a 90-min. drive from my house and a brutal hangover from a fun Friday night, and you have this writer's dilemma. This is not a manicured gran country club but, for a public course, it's fantastic. $40 plus cart on a Saturday morning is a bargain for this location. We wanted to escape the heat from the valley and the weather was spectacular. When it's 90 in the valley, it was 73 in Oxnard. The smell of the ocean, cool breezes, nice views, uncrowded holes and little highway noise, all made this place a joy to play. Lots of trees, rolling hills, a little bit of water, very good greens, wide fairways, playable rough and some unusual green shapes. The 18th hole, a rare par-3 finishing hole, is a true island green, only accessible with a foot bridge. The staff was fine, the bathrooms were clean, the beverage cart gal was friendly and the COVID rules were acceptable. Play early or prepare to wait for a cart since they do not allowed shared carts unless you are from the same family. A spectacular day on a very good golf course. read more

This course has made the bottom tier of Ventura county courses. I'd put it down there with Camarillo Springs, maybe just a slight tick above it. Fairways were dead. Tee boxes were not level (blue tees) or had big holes in the ground where they put the boxes. Greens were so inconsistent and slow. Rough was hit or miss if it was there or if you were playing out of the cow pasture. Apparently there was a "catastrophic failure" on the bridge on 18 of vineyard too. Didn't make it that far as I quit after 4 hours on hole 12. Waiting 15 minutes between shots is awful. Oh and add to that - the clown on the mower on hole 7 running over my ball that was just off the green (I could see it from the tee so no way he couldnt see it right on top of it) and kept mowing the whole time we were playing the hole. This course owes me a pro-v for that boneheads move, but I'm not going back to collect. Too many other nicer, better courses in VC county. read more

I stopped playing this course several years ago after the two brothers who ran it, left. Course back then was nice. Playable. Played it today after a couples years away. Worse than I have ever seen it. Played Victoria Lakes. Hit the first tee shot down middle. Second was played off dirt. Terrible. Happened several times during round. The greens were even worse. I saw a quote day before we played. Said the greens were like putting on a pizza. It was so true. Absolutely no maitnanace being done on course. I will never play there again. What the city of Oxnard is doing with the proceeds. Course was absolutely packed (Friday). I would recommend they close down 9 holes at a time and revamp them. The layout of the course is okay. I would recommend paying an extra $30 and go to Moorpark CC. read more

Not sure what all the bad reviews are for. I played here this morning 9/26/23 and it was great. The fairways were green and cut. The rough was a little long. The only reason for not five stars is because the greens were actively being punched and sanded as I was playing and there was no notification given. I love playing the Lakes and Vineyard especially during the hot season. Its about 20 deg cooler than the valley and has beautiful views. Not sure what all the bad reviews are about the state of the course. The course is well looked after for a public course, especially after several years of severe water restrictions and Covid. Fairways are in fairly good shape while the greens are excellent condition. In most courses in LA we have to fix multiple divet holes, but here we did not come across any green with noticeable divet holes. We find the pro-shop staff to be friendly and accommodating. One or two proper rest rooms on the course would make it Five stars. We will be coming back to play each week, especially during the hot days. read more

Fun course! Fairways were dead but totally playable. Went on a Tuesday afternoon and it was dead so the perfect place to teach some newcomers. Lost two stars for the Marshall who stalked us for multiple holes even though there was nobody behind us and we always let people play ahead when they caught up. When we tried to drive back to the club house he cut us off and was extremely rude saying we were going the wrong way when we had just missed one turn. His attitude kind of ruined the whole day. After reading so many bad reviews, I was expecting a real dog track. Played Vineyard on 5/16 - went off at 6:30 as a walking single with no one in sight in front and nobody apparently ready to go behind. The course has generally very good grass coverage. The tea boxes were mostly in good shape - including the par threes. As with any municipal course, there are some places where you can draw a poor lie, but for the most part, I found good grass throughout. Green surrounds are very lush, with nice conditions. Greens themselves seem quite healthy. They ARE slow! Perhaps as slow as an 8.5 on the stimp meter. But they roll true, although some very light traces of early April punching still exist. Slow actually makes putting easy since smacking the ball hard allows one to take the break out of the putts. Green side sand traps were "fine". Not as much sand as you might hope for, but certainly not lacking sand entirely. The one fairway bunker I found had quite a few loose rocks and pebbles but was groomed and also had sand in it. Overall, for $40, I feel it is a good value. Having just relocated from LA area, I can say that the conditions were better than Brookside, Santa Anita, Griffith Park and other munis I have been playing for years at higher prices..... read more

Bad customer service. Checking in for a tee time, I said to the guy behind the counter, "I have an 11:36am tee time on Victoria Lakes". Dude looks at me for about 10 seconds then starts barking at me, "Who is I?, I don't know who I is, and you're not speaking to me correctly." I wait 5 seconds and say, "I have an 11:36am time on Victoria Lakes and I'm the only golfer booked at this time". Dude starts talking about "Who is I, you said I and I don't know who I is", again with an attitude. I tell him "Look at the booking sheet, and tell me how many golfer's names do you see?" He then realizes that I'm playing solo and then checks me in. As I'm leaving to go play, dude says again that I wasn't talking to him correctly. I go play my round. After, I go back into the shop, get right up in his face and told this guy to never speak that way to a patron again. I told him that golfers are paying good money to play this course and that he was rude and condensending. When speaking with a patron, try using "Good morning sir, may I have your name please" and be polite about it. If you don't like your job, then quit. Dude was about 5' 7" and bald. I don't know who the manager is of this course, but this guy was the worst. Have been playing golf for over 30 years on courses all over SoCal. Never have encountered someone like this with such poor manners and zero customer service skills. read more

The golf course is in bad shape. Greens are three or four colors. Fareway are poor at best. Bunkers are a joke,no sand always wet muddy ect. The fringe around the greens should be ground under repair. The course over all is the worst I have seen in 30 years. The staff do their best.! read more
