The WORST!!! Play here often and find the management and Marshalls to be sexist, unpleasant, and no regard for customer service. We were told a "frost delay" would cause a 20-30 minute wait, which turned into an hour delay. Then a group was able to go in front of us to "finish" a hole causing a further delay. When I asked for a credit or rain check for nine holes as this will take us into a 6 hour plus round from our original tee time, I was met with rude, condescending tones. read more

Super friendly staff, course is in great condition. Greens had been punched about 10 days prior to our tee time but they made us aware of that when booking, which no course ever does that and it was super cool of them to let us know. Round took about 4.5 hours. Will definitely be returning! read more

We just moved to Sterling Hills from San Diego. I have played the course 3 times and for the price you can't beat it. The staff is very friendly and the food is great. The traps can use some work but overall if you just want a nice day out on the links and aren't used to country club stuff this is the place. I understand that it was sold a few years ago and my neighbor has told me the new owner is really getting it into shape. So most of the reviews you read are about the old owners. My home is on a tee box and we had an issue with the sprinklers from the course and they came right over and fixed it. I post this just to let you know how much they care about customer service. I would give the place 5 stars if it was in a bit better condition. Many of the bunkers need work. However, the value cannot be topped. Mid week round was 50 bucks including cart, range balls, and a sandwich at the turn. Staff is very friendly and of course the weather is almost always great. read more

I've been here 2-3 times and the first time was amazing. The course was in great shape and the people were very kind and helpful. The last two times I have played at this course I have been told rules have changed and certain access is revoked because of terms that aren't true. I personally play with Youth on Course and have been to many courses where I can get a cart and play my round. On top of that every other place I've ever been to lets me book a tee time. Not here though, they let you book a tee time but once you arrive at your tee time they tell you that you may not play and tell you to wait an hour or leave. As for the carts I have just turned 18 and would love to take a cart now that I am legal, however they say that in the rules of Youth on Course, it specifically states that we may not use carts and since we already get a discounted rate that its not allowed for me to get a cart. To close this off I would say if you're looking for a one time place to golf, great place but they have so many inconsistent rules and regulations that just make it way too hard to have fun. read more

The Good: Very reasonable price. The free sandwich ticket is a nice touch. More places should do this. Free warmup bucket adds to the value. Nice challenging layout and usually a lot of fun to play. Mature trees line the course. Greens are usually always in good shape. The Bad: Course conditions are unpredictable. Sometimes good and sometimes its bad. Not sure why that is. This place has gone through a lot of ownership changes so you never really know what you are going to get if you have a big time gap between visits. read more

I had a really nice time here. My family and I went for a few hours, just to get some practice in at the driving range. We got a lil tour of the course and its beautiful rolling greens. I couldn't believe, from the looks of things, that this place had been in major repair. Everything looked so nice. The grass was lush and everything was just beautiful. The greens weren't too fast, just perfect. The customer service was impeccable and everyone was so friendly. Having come into the pro shop just before closing, I was worried that they'd be real reluctant to help us. That was NOT the case. Apparently there was going to be a special event held in the banquet room, beginning in the main lobby and foyer areas. They let us know this early and invited us to come back into the building for the pro shop or restrooms using an alternate building entrance. Awesome. After some practice swings, my lil one wanted a lil break. We took a break, sitting on the benches a ways away from the driving stalls. We watched the loads and loads of butterflies go by, migrating. It was beautiful and was just so calm. We hadn't thought about golfing here at all before but it was definitely something to think about now, having seen how nicely the grounds had been taken care of. I was so impressed with how the ladies restrooms were taken care of even, offering all the little things that make a world f difference, like mouth wash, wipes, perfume, tooth picks, sanitary feminine products just in case, etc. Things like that are so small but you'd have no idea how important they can be until you don't have 'em. I'm not sure if it was the same in the men's washrooms but I can tell you I definitely liked and appreciated those extras. Some of what was nice about being there was that everyone there was pretty laid back. They didn't rush us. They weren't upset with my lil one being there and making a few tiny lil outbursts because she was so excited to see the birds and all the migrating butterflies. Everyone was so sweet to our family. I bought a voucher from golf moose. What a great deal. I would recommend this course to everyone. The stay was very friendly, free warm up basket of balls, putting green. The course was in great shape. It's not the longest course but it is not easy. The greens were in great shape and were faster than the city courses I normally play. The sand in the traps were fluffy, not like the dirt on the city courses and they were well manicured. I felt like I was playing a country club. Highly recommended. read more

Great course in good condition, but to make me wear a mask in the Pro Shop but have their employee making my sandwich in the snack bar not wear one, is about as oxymoronic as it gets. The worst day I played golf is here at Sterling Hills. All the staff were rude to our FAGA group which consist of 8 groups. The staff at the proshop and the starter are not acomodating and did not show any sign of understanding since we have 8 flights. The staff at the cafeteria slammed the phone on one player when he called to order his food on hole #8, and was not quick enough to say his choice of sandwich. We are the FAGA, Filipino American Golf Association of Ventura county , 95% retired Navy, and we bring business to the courses that we play since we average 36 players all the time. I don't play much but I am pleasantly surprised and happy with how well the fairways are looking, the greens are rolling very well and the course is always a ton of fun to play. Just fair warning that when you book tee times online via the Sterling Hills website, you have to pay a non-refundable Golf Now fee. Even when you cancel the tee time well in advance, you don't get your Golf Now fee refunded. I asked the pro shop about it and they told me to call Golf Now. When I called Golf Now, they told me it's a non-refundable fee whether I play or cancel. Sterling Hills switched over to using the Golf Now booking engine and there's no warning of the fees so I feel slightly cheated. I will think twice about booking a tee time here now. read more

I have played Sterling Hills for years and with the way they treated myself and my golf partner was absolutely unacceptable. I called into the clubhouse and let them know I would be about 10 minutes late due to traffic driving out to the course. Below is the distance I am coming from to play this course. I actually played a golf tournament in the area last weekend. What was upsetting is that the starter and his starter guy at the tee box area where very rude and forceful in their speech when talking to first my partner while he was waiting and then when I arrived after waiting for my cart he is setting there with a walkie talkie and telling me I needed to go back up to the clubhouse and let them know my partner was gone. So to stop myself from getting into it with the other person and i'm holding back what I really want to call them I decided that I was not going to be pushed back 2 hours when I saw a few 3 somes go out. I wasn't even the 10 mins late that I projected and these 2 old dudes were acting as if they own that public course. I'm hoping GolfNow will provide me with some type of credit. A few things: Most importantly. My boyfriends car was broken into in the parking lot and there was only ONE camera and it was blocked by a tree. When the owner was notified, he could care less and wouldn't come out when the cop was writing the report. It was the worst customer service I've ever seen. He finally came out and had the audacity to say "would a round of golf suffice?" No. How about you get better security cameras or get insurance to pay for that sort of thing. The least you could have done was reimburse us for our round we had already completed. And hated. The course: Terrible shape minus the greens. Every tee box was sloped and every fairway was damaged. My boyfriend and I lost balls within the damn fairway cause they were covered in leaves or dirt. Very disappointed cause I loved this course growing up. The staff: As I already mentioned, the manager couldn't give two shits. The guys at the front were fine, but I only give this place one star for the wonderful cart gal. She was so nice! I hadn't played this course in several years. I told a buddy how great it was but after the first couple holes it was clear it's taken a turn for the worse. Only good thing about this course now is the value. Shame. It was so promising when first built. Feel bad for all of the homeowners who once had an attractive course at the center of the community. The Good - the greens. They rave about the greens and compared to the rest of the course they are in good shape. Pretty good roll and they have undulations so not easy. Value is also good. Cheap. The Bad - the hospitality. Guy at the front counter was laughably rude. Didn't want to give us a cart though the package we had included them. I get with COVID-19 it's tough as 1 person per cart but the way he went about it was rude. Also didn't believe my friend that he was booked the same time in our foursome. Arguing with him. Then he gives us a 15 minute call on the range while we're warming up. Then says "last call" for our group "the starter is waiting". Never told us we were up and it was only a few minutes after the initial call. Just a gruff, unhappy dude. The condition is poor. I know bunkers can't have rakes (though a lot of courses are putting them on carts for players to rake their own), but these bunkers looked like they hadn't been maintained in 3 days. Nothing but wet, deep foot tracks in every square inch. Marshall tried to say they were raked every morning. No way. We had an 8am tee time and they were beyond beat up. Course could use a lot of water. Lots of dirt, brown patches, etc. If your course is in bad shape at least by cheerful and try to give people a good experience. Wouldn't want to be the owners of this track. Has to be affecting property values too. read more

Even though they have set tee times and they know exactly who is on the course. we went back in cart to the last hole that the club was left at & the group of 4 were the only ones there! Disgusting that adults would steal from a kid. As I was out taking my son for a round of golf to practice. If I could give zero stars I would. The establishment was of no assistance, "did you see them take it" .. really? no ... the spaceship that beamed it up went too quickly, didn't catch a license plate. give me a break. Played this course today. Started off on the back 9. I haven't played in about 5 years. Back then it was bad. It's a decent track. You have to know what you are doing though. Greens are tough. Lots of undulation. I had several 3 putts today shot a 13 over. Not the best of my scores but for a tough course on a windy day, not bad. read more

Sterling Hills Golf Course is making a comeback and conditions are improving after years of neglect by previous owners. I play this course weekly and it continues to be one of my favorite courses in Ventura County (and there are many to choose from). The course is getting regular water and new seed is growing in the bare areas of the fairways. Greens have always been in good shape but getting better. I have played this course for over 10 years and have seen the ups and downs of course conditions and customer service - but new ownership is working hard to change that. Lee Harlow is the Director of Golf and a Ventura County local, and his attention to conditions and customer service will make this a top rated golf course. I anticipate that course conditions will be perfect in about 6 months, but it is still a great course, value and location right now. Don't be misled by reviews from hack golfers that play 4 times a year, shoot 100+, and complain about their lie when they top it off the tee about 50 yards. Our group of local golfers (mostly single digit handicappers) choose to play here weekly because the course is challenging but fair, and the value and customer service is great. As I said, conditions are improving as the new grass is growing, and it will only get better. There are several tee boxes to choose from, and you can decide how you want to be challenged. That gives you a lot of options to play different shots off the tees and into the greens. For the layout, location, green fees and customer service - you can't find a better value! read more

I love this golf course. The tee boxes and greens are always immaculate and the fairways are in good shape. The problem is the staff. The marshals are not good and the pro shop staff is dismissive and rude. I don't understand why they treat people the way the way they do but have experienced their abuse firsthand. I attempted to contact the manager both by e-mail and by phone with no response to multiple messages. I finally reached the pro shop manager and explained my problem with the marshal and told him I didn't really want anything except for him to be aware of the problem and, possibly, an apology. He said, "why should I apologize? I didn't do anything." I have stopped visiting this course and have stopped taking my customers there. There are other good courses locally where I am not treated so poorly. read more

Went this weekend to play a round of golf. Started about 9:40 AM around 12:00 pm we were ready for lunch around the 9th hole. Tried to call the café with the number listed on the 9th hole but the extension kept getting us through to the wedding planning departments answering machine. Tried 3 times same result. We got into the café we were using tokens included in our round of golf and inquired about adding French fries or onion rings to our meal. The cashier replied that we have to pay him an additional $5.00 for French fries and $6.00 for onion rings. When inquiring if that was not included with our tokens, he began yelling loudly at us (cash only, cash only you know, denarrow, money!!!) Then began rubbing his fingers back and forward and sticking his hands in my face about 2 inches from my nose. The menu showed French fries at $4.50 and onion rings at $5.50. But he kept yelling at us and running his fingers in our face stating he wanted cash only. Not sure about you, but I'm not used to being treated that way. I've gone to sterling hills several times before and never inquired this kind of treatment. You may want to think twice before going there if that's the way they're going to treat the customers. read more

Played there yesterday 4/22/20 it was good to get out fairways were in so-so condition and the bummer was they did not have any flags in the holes on the greens so you had no target to aim for the reason for that they said was it somebody the day before had touched the flagstick so they were concerned about contamination , The greens were in OK condition thought they'd be better and there was a lot of people bbecause they just re-opened it was a 5 1/2 hour round only walking no carts. read more
