The Schafer Leather Store has been around since 1867 and sells a wide variety of leather goods and gifts. In particular, they have a huge selection of Kicker boots and Cowboy hats. I stopped in yesterday and was warmly welcomed by couple who owns the place and amused by a street guy who wandered in and complained that he couldn't get any credit here! It's a very nice shop and I got to peak in back where the do a lot of leather-related work themselves. We also chatted about some of his cattle work and the Iowa State Fair that we separately attended last year. I'd like to come back if I happen by this way again.

I tried them on and some fit well but lacked some things I wanted and others didn't fit the way I wanted so no perfect match but here is why this place gets 5 stars while I was there I observed other customers in the store and West going above and beyond to offer advice on other things in the store and personal recommendations to the point customers even were saying "wow I really appreciate that information" " that means alot" ect He really showed a "I care about everyone" attitude top notch customer service! He even tried to find something for me, but unfortunately, there just wasn't anything that was there that matched, but we found something close. I just needed a different size, so he took my info and will be in touch when it comes in. I was very impressed with the customer service observed! Picked up the supposedly repaired shoes for $30.00 and they appear to have never been touched. When I called the guy, he was so rude that I lost my temper with him. I left a jacket there to have the zipper fixed so I told him not to touch that and to just throw the jacket away. He will not refund my money because he expects me to drive 1.5 hours round trip so he can look at them. Told him I do not want him touching anything else of mine as it is obvious he is refusing to take any responsibility for the issue. So he just ripped me off for $30.00. I think the tax department should be advised of this guy's 'cash only' business.
