It's rather easy to get to from route 50 and it has an outdoor parking lot. There is currently a lot of construction there, so the parking lot is a lot smaller than normal. Luckily, when I have gone, it hasn't been crowded. But I can't help but Wonder how folks fight for parking spaces during the work commute. The station itself is just fine. It has three escalators -- one to go into the station and go through the gates, and two to go to either side of the platform to go to either New Carrollton or Vienna. It's convenient that I live somewhere that has access to so many stations for my different needs riding to the city.

Amtrak/VRE/Metro - King Street Station, Old Town Alexandria VA…read more At the start of a weekend trip from Alexandria to Newport News, I was booked on one of Amtrak's Northeast Regional trains. I've lived in Alexandria for about 15 years and appreciate the reach of trains stopping in Old Town. The transit footprint includes the Blue and Yellow Metro rail lines, the VRE commuter rail, and both CSX freight and Amtrak passenger trains - making the station exceptionally versatile. The Amtrak station opens at 6 a.m. - and there's an excellent 24-hour diner a block away, near the Hilton serving Old Town King Street. One of the not-so-great features of the Amtrak side of the station is that passengers heading into D.C. may have to cross over the tracks or face a lot of steps up and down to get from one set of tracks to the other. Complicating the process is the practice of withholding information about which track incoming trains might be using, so we won't know what side of the tracks we will be boarding from. That's all going to change: the site is undergoing major construction changes that will eliminate having to cross the rails on foot. While the construction will likely take most of the year to finish, the result should be amazing. We saw a similar investment in the site two years ago when the WMATA/DASH side of the station was overhauled, greatly improving safety for all who use the station. According to the station's website, the contractor must achieve substantial completion within 756 consecutive calendar days from the Notice-To-Proceed (NTP), issued December 2025 (so figure it'll be under construction until early 2028). This is a station of historic standing, within a stone's throw from the Washington Masonic Temple monument. Once the dust clears, passenger safety will see a significant improvement, as will train traffic.

To save on Uber/Lyft fees, I took the metro from DCA to this station, then took a bus to National Harbor. The bus area is right outside the metro station and fairly easy to navigate. This station is also in the heart of Old Town Alexandria. I was able to walk around and see a little of it, but if you have more time, you can take the free trolley around Old Town- it also stops here. There really isn't much you can walk to unless you have a good amount of time before your bus arrives, so my suggestion is to stay put and not try to find coffee, food, or drinks. I wish there was a convenience store or coffee shop closer!

There's traffic! So much bumper to bumper traffic! However now I can save my wear and tear on my car. Its about an hour ride. Which is fine by me. There's a lot stores and shopping centers nearby besides Tysons Mall. The station is well lit and has pedestrian bridge. Now I can visit my VA friends more ! Only downside is riding metro ain't cheap. Can you believe rush hour ends at 9pm?!!! However its cheap to ride the metro on the weekend.

Honestly I would just whip through this station and keep on going. However, determined to acquaint myself with my surroundings and to figure out how to use the Metro to its fullest potential. It is a great location if you wanted to make a quick trip for shopping. Located next to the PG Mall and the movie theater. The whole reason I came used this station in the first place. Plenty of restaurants and shops along the way besides the mall, so you can definitely make a whole day by using this Metro. It also can link up to the bus network with all the bus bays.

7/13/23 Since this…read morepast June ( In 2023),  I and my colleagues have been stopping at this station. The closures of Dunn Lorring Metro Station is the main reason for this.   I have watched this area transform from what the area use to look like.  I see high rise apartments  along with businesses like The MITRE Corporation, Northrop Grumman  and The Archer Hotel which use to be a Hilton Hotel. The Sushi Umi store has been there since 2018 and I do not believe the restaurant ever opened.  Please correct me if I am wrong. The McLean Metro stop from what I saw today look clean and well maintained.   The escalator steps were the only thing that looked worn and scuffed up from heavy traffic...as it should be. I saw the cost of getting a day pass is still 10 bucks with $8.00 dollars being credited to your Smartcard.  I saw the new prices for Rush Hours and Non-Rush have changed in price.  Now Non-Rush Hour's price is  $2.00.  I failed to take a picture of the new time prices, but a least you know the Now rush hour time  starts at 5:00am ends at 9:30am.   Rush Hour starts up again at 3:00pm and ends at 7:00pm. I did not get to the top of the subway area, but I will another time.  Nevertheless, I enjoyed seeing the new area of Tyson's Corner from the Metro Station.  I will be sure to ride the Silverline  from start to finish some time on Saturday in the distant future.   Maybe even stop by and visit Relaxation Station  at Weaton Mall. We will see.

I will say that this is one of the nicest entrances to a Metro stop I have seen. Being in the midst of George Washington University lends to that. Big bust of the first president just step from the escalators allows for the steady stream of people to file by. The station itself isn't anything extraordinary. It has the same aesthetic as every other underground Metro station in DC. The trains were running on time the day I chose this station. Coming at a consistent pace and it didn't matter which line I took as I was making my way to a connection. Even though it looked like every other station, this one felt longer than most. And the way I was heading on the tracks it felt like a longer than usual walk to get the part of the platform where I wanted to be. You have to remember not all trains have eight cars.

If you haven't had the joy, you need to partake. If you are en route to the ballpark area during a game, ready yourself to become part of the flow. The flow that is gravitating towards the ballpark. And not just the ballpark, since the soccer stadium is over this way as well. If you don't know where you are going...yes you do. Just let the flood of people take you. The whole vibe of this station is the same as other one-line stations in the area. One platform, one entrance/exit, one schedule to have to worry about. When it is not gameday, or it is after the gameday rush, you would not know this is the same place. When it's not a rush of people, it's a calm and quiet place.
