Residing between the great Mississippi River and the Rum River meet lies Peninsula Point Park. This…read morewas the first stop on my Anoka Adventure Day and it did not disappoint. STAR #1: The've posted a ton of information throughout about the park and its rich history. I really enjoyed learning about its significance to the indigenous peoples and trappers that settled in the area. STAR #2: Tons of grassy space for picnics, frisbee, and more! So go ahead and stay awhile! STAR #3: There's a small play area nestled back from the shoreline - so be sure to bring the littles! STAR #4: With docks and boat ramps aplenty, Peninsula Point Park seems to be a place fishermen flock too. STAR #5: There's abundant parking, though I'm sure it fills up fast on the weekends! Peninsula Point Park was definitely a hit and made for an excellent place to stop and catch some rays. I'll gladly make my way back next time I'm in Minnesota.

There are plenty of walking trails! There is a cute bridge that crosses over the creek! There are also trails that walk next to the creek. Very peaceful and you totally forget you are in the suburbs! The playground equipment is well taken care of and no sand or wood chips! It's all rubber on the ground. There are plenty of activities to keep your kiddos entertained. There is also a basketball court, volleyball court, 3 pavilions, an open field and indoor bathrooms. If those are locked, there are porta potties. There is also a small garden with benches. Overall this is a quality park! One definitely worth visiting!

Loved our weekend trip to this park! When we arrived, the parking lot was very busy and there were…read morevery few spots left, even though it's a pretty sizeable lot for a park. We quickly learned this was because there was a special event going on (the Sankofa celebration) inside the center, with vendor tables and a couple of food trucks and even some crafting activities. So we got to experience that on top of the rest of the park's great amenities! The center is sleek and modern inside. LOTS of toilets (single occupant, all-gender), lots of coat hangars, multiple water bottle refill stations. The ground level has some cool reptile/amphibians behind glass you can ogle, as well as interactive informational displays (great for kids and adults, imo). Downstairs they have the rental booth for gear and educational rooms (they had a falcon demo in one while we were there!). Beside the center is an awesome multilevel playground, very fun. As well as a splash pad (for non-winter months) and an elevated boardwalk. The most nearby attraction is obviously the dam, which has an impressive spillway that's mesmerizing to watch. You can even walk across it to go over the river to the park on the other side. Apparently this spot is popular with fishers (though I don't have much knowledge on that subject). There are also trails that can be explored. Paved routes good for all recreational uses, as well as further out hiking paths that are just dirt. It'd be great to come back out again sometime and explore more. Across the street it seemed there was even archery!

Check the trail map before venturing on foot and make sure your device has a full battery charge as you may need to get your bearings. I tried the purple trail and found a couple of arrows leading to the correct path and then nothing more. The trail had many options with paths veering to the right and left and I didn't know which would be the purple trail. Not a big worry as I figure I'll come out somewhere and I've been in this situation before with some state park trails. Skip to the end, my 2.8 mile trail was about 5 miles around after relying on GPS to keep aiming toward "parked car". There are different entrances and parking lots and cross trails and room for canoeing. Just come prepared and it's easy to take a short hike around on a paved trail if so desired.

They have a decent bathroom structure it's no Central Park Maple Grove but they are clean. Your a bit off the beaten path it feels remote which might not feel good to moms if there isn't people around as a dad of three girls it's refreshing. Check out Thursday evenings during the summer for great free music...and free parking! My friends and I enjoyed the amazing Minnesota band, The Power of 10 and danced to it all night long!
