(this is a very late post from our visit in summer of 2022)…read more What a gem of a museum that we happened upon during our recent visit to the Millsville, NJ area! We love finding local museums and this one did not disappoint. We were given a short introduction of the museum by a nice lady, then we walked around all of the rooms at our own pace. Every room is PACKED with so much history, and each exhibit and display is well-organized. Afterwards I learned that it actually IS more than 1 museum! We loved all the different displays. The museum really takes the time to pay tribute to so many groups that have served in the military, including Japanese Americans, Tuskegee Airmen, Women in the military, all across multiple wars. You could easily spend a whole day here just absorbing all of the history and artifacts. The collection is just spectacular! While we were there we were given an impromptu tour by Mr. Ed, a volunteer and Vietnam Veteran. (Tours can be scheduled in advance but we didn't schedule one, we were just lucky enough to chance upon one). What an honor and pleasure to be in his presence as he let my 2 boys into the display vehicles and explain (very patiently) all of the features and functions of each. He spent lots of time telling us about the history of the vehicles and in particular we spent a good amount of time in the flight training center. I can't say enough about this great museum. The restoration efforts are fantastic and you can see the passion and care that the employees put into maintaining and, even more importantly, IMPROVING this place. Also to note, restrooms are available and clean, as is water. Located right on the Executive Airport, so you can also catch small planes coming and going. Gift shop is small but reasonably priced. Truly a great place to visit and we would definitely come back, especially when they have their air shows and other events! Probably wouldn't recommend for under 5 years unless you just want to see some airplanes outside. We became members and receive occasional mailings with updates. They have since acquired some new vehicles and we look forward to making another visit in the future!

We had our ceremony in the antique store in front of the large open door, old church pews & antique chairs for our guests... just beautiful! From there the reception with the farm tables & antique dishes...perfection! Dealing with the staff was an absolute blast! They made it seem so simple. Everyone I spoke to regarding the wedding planning with the venue always said to keep in mind that most venues arent very personable, you are just a number...that was the furthest from the truth here. These ladies all knew who I was, what we loved, and everything about our wedding! Anytime we have out of town relatives visit, we take them there. It's so peaceful and also educational. Winter of 2026 was very bad this year and we noticed it has also taken a toll on their landscaping. With time, I'm sure it will be repaired. This place is worth an afternoon visit! Glass, yo, it's from Joy-zee!…read more This is a weird but cool arts campus in Millville, mainly about glass, but also housing a decent-size pottery guild, and a small building of textile/tribal arts. In addition to live glass blowing demonstrations, and special classes or make-and-take events for glass/pottery pieces, they have a glass museum with tons of history on glass in the USA. NJ had all the right conditions and materials (wood, sand, soda ash, and silica) for glass so it was the nation's main source of glass for a long period in US history. They make pottery and glass items on site that are sold in the store, and visitors can observe all of this being made. There is a long nature trail, a lake, historic schoolhouse, and various other interesting buildings on the campus. There are at least two stores, both with tons of glass and pottery/ceramic gift options, among other artistic mediums. There is finer art glass sculpture available too, in the gallery store. Wheaton offers a handful of free admission days every year (mostly in summer), including the Fire Muster, with a bunch of fire engines and firemen! They also host craft shows, holiday themed weekends, and other festival events. Live music and food trucks are normally part of any event day. It's a very fun place, and easily can take 2 hours to explore everything. My last visit I was there 3 hours and still didn't get to the nature trail. Nearby Vineland has many great food options, especially Puerto Rican.

The gallery has very reasonable commission rates for artists who wish to display their work. Periodically, the Consortium hosts Dr. Sketchy's artists' sketch parties. These are a great way to get together with friends & other artists to draw together. They also offer yoga classes and other events on a regular basis.

Delafaire, AKA the Delaware Renaissance Faire, is held over three weekends in October - November…read moreeach year. This is one of four "pop up" faires run by the same group. I e now been to three: Philly Faire, Bucks County Faire and Delafaire. The fourth is Midsommar Faire in Connecticut (July). This was my first visit to Delafaire, and it's already on my calendar for next year. The Faire is in Townsend DE, not terribly far from Smyrna. It's in a rural location, so cell service is spotty at best. The Faire is held on the grounds of Fire Base Lloyd, a veteran's assistance organization. You'll see the big helicopter mounted out front. The fees they make renting their field (30 or so acres) go to support their work with homeless veterans. Pretty cool. I arrived just before / at opening. Checking in was easy, the line moved quickly. They had their first show, a harp player who sang traditional folk songs from the renaissance period. I joined up with friends, and we walked the grounds, visiting the vendor tents, seeing a few shows (Magic! Storytelling! Comedy!). The "pub" was cool, all proceeds from that went up the Delaware Museum of Nature and Science. Also cool. They had a Filipino restaurant there in a good tent. I got the lumpia which were delicious. I also got a strawberry shortcake bowl with vanilla ice cream and nilla wafers that was quite good. Parking was easy. There had been rain so mud was a thing - you are parking in a field. Tickets were quite reasonable, especially for all the acts and characters. Well run, lots to do, gives back to the community. What else could you ask for?
