Along the side of the park is a babbling creek with a wooden bridge that crosses over so you can walk along the natural area. If you prefer a paved path, there is a loop that takes you around the park. The day I was there, a family was enjoying a birthday party in the shade, having lots of fun. Not only does this park provide recreational space for the locals, there is an area is dedicated to overnight RV parking for $25. As you enter the park on the one way driveway that encircles the space, the managers office is the first trailer to the right. I'm giving it five stars because for a small town of less than 640, these are great amenities. So if you visit, out your expectations in check, keep it relative.

The green grass on the sloping hills under beautiful oak and fir trees creates such a lush and peaceful space throughout the year. My favorite time to go to Jackson Park is during the summer when they have concerts on Thursday nights. There is a large wooden Pavillion where the band sets up and there is plenty of room for the large crowds that gather. The park also has movie nights in the summer. The movies are projected onto a large screen and people gather on blankets and chairs with picnics to enjoy a movie under the sky. The park was donated to the City of Hood River in 1939 by a local rancher and wife, Charles & Viaje Jackson. It has been enjoyed by generations ever since. What a gift! There are bathrooms on site and they are generally clean. There is a strip parking lot on the May Street side and parking on Taylor Street.

Plus, there's a great path that winds through a forest, and I thought it was an amazing opportunity to take some photos of the plants there; I could imagine the scenarios featuring the forest as a part of the Black Forest in the fairy tales I like to read sometimes, such as Little Red Riding Hood with the Big Bad Wolf (except different, of course). There are big dinosaurs and fake palm trees. The big dinosaurs are awesome! There are two sections of playground, swings, a sandbox, bathrooms, and an asphalt walking path around the park. There is a little kid playground and a big kid playground. The playground area is rubber. Outside of the playground, there is a sandpit with tons of sand toys inside. The park was very clean. When taking first time visitors out to this area, we often drive from Portland on the Washington side to take in views of Mt. Hood in , then stop at the Cape Horn viewpoint to take in the lush and expansive views of the Columbia River. Always a crowd pleaser that elicits oos and aghs. Next we pass through Cascade Locks, we stop at the Marine Park to use the clean facilities and enjoy a picnic. There is plenty of room to spread out and it's never crowded. There is a small playground for the kids, lots of open space, and a boat launch and Marina. The park is well maintained and so peaceful.

Park amenities include a children's playground, open lawns, picnic tables, clean public restrooms, a gravelly beach, boat launch ramp, and marina. We often drive out to just sit and watch the windsurfers, various birds and boats go in and out. Unique views of the Bridge of the Gods is just downriver too. The Marine Park offers a variety of indoor and outdoor venues for special events for groups of 5 to 500. Such a nice place for a birthday party, baby shower, family reunion or even a wedding. Make sure to tour the Historical Museum while you're there and see the first steam locomotive of the Oregon Territory, the Oregon Pony. The Marine Park also serves as the meeting and launching point for the Columbia Gorge Racing Association's sailing events, and racing takes place in the waters upriver from the beach at the east end of the Park. Check their webpage for next year's Regatta in July. This is world-class sailboat racing in a world-famous big wind venue and not to be missed. Many professional sailors say it's "the best place in the world to sail."
