This review is for Lower Falls Creek Trail which was a ~3.2 miles round trip that took ~1.5 hours to complete. Just 50 mins away from Multnomah Falls; we decided to cross the Bridge Of The Gods into Washington! There was a $3 toll fee at the bridge (class 1 vehicle). Trail was narrow for the most part where you will need to stop to let others pass. Overall, not too difficult with a stunning waterfall at the end! Great out and back at approximately 3 miles RT. The falls are so spectacular, a much longer trek would be perfectly acceptable! The trail itself is pretty narrow at times, we had to pull off often to let others through from the opposite direction. The environment is lovely, beautiful trees and the wonderful sounds of rushing water. When you approach the falls it's pretty jaw-dropping. From a distance, peeking through the trees the anticipation of what's coming is energizing. Once you arrive there are large boulders and layers to climb around to get different views (warning, some spots slippery). Although you can't possibly see the top areas of the falls fully, what you get to see is simply gorgeous. A beautiful pool and forest surroundings, along with a waterfall of spectacular height with a plethora of refreshing spray...what more could you want?! I've taken in quite a few falls in the area and so far this one takes the cake. Definitely worth a trek to see in person, as pictures do not do it justice. Would LOVE to see this hike and falls snow-covered too! read more

A beautiful hike to get to a spectacular destination! Almost as soon as you leave the trailhead, you'll hear rushing water, which I suspect gave Falls Creek its name. The walk follows the creek, with frequent delightful views of bits of whitewater or tiny waterfalls, or just idyllic glimpses of the creek. The hike to the falls is generally uphill, becoming somewhat steeper as you approach the end. The sensory payoff of the falls itself is multilayered - the sound is the first thing that lets you know you're almost there. There's a tantalizing glimpse of water looking up through the trees. A very short stretch of trail where the temperature appears to drop about 15 degrees tells you it's just around one final corner. Once you make it to the falls, you're looking up, looking down, and trying to take it all in, from a viewpoint that seems closer than any other waterfall I can recall. Big flat boulders provide a place to relax a bit, maybe enjoy a snack, and just let the experience wash over you (not literally). The hike is rated as easy, but I was very glad that I had my hiking poles with me - I'm a lot closer to Medicare than most Yelpers are, and a year of pandemic that kept me from the gym, so I'd definitely consider the 3+ mile round trip to be a hike, rather than a stroll in the woods. But regardless of the condition of your knees, this is a very special place. Enjoy. read more

Falls Creek Falls are "5 stars" for sure. "4 stars" reflects the journey to get to the Falls. These falls defy description and are enough to instill a sense of wonder in the most cynical human. (OK. Maybe I exaggerate a bit. :-) ) First off: The last 2-mile stretch driving in before Dec 1st would be best completed with a lunar rover. Our AWD Subaru Legacy Outback did fine but a lower car will be slower going. Take your dramamine. After Dec 1st, the road is closed so expect to add an extra 2 miles to each end of your hike to walk in to the trailhead. The upper falls trail is a good climb. The lower falls trail offers a better view IMHO. Bring a sandwich and spend some time. Photos of these falls are gorgeous ... and do not do it justice. Fellow hikers were well-masked and polite drive our covid-era hike and we appreciated that. There is a toilet at this trailhead but usually no TP and usually it is messy in there. read more

Still WOW amazing & see my original review for more important details. Updating to more accurately convey the difficulty level. There are several short-ish inclines along the trail to the falls, most of them are on the way to the falls but there are some on the way back to the parking area. As you get closer to the falls the trail gets narrower, rockier & there are more tree roots to navigate over. If you are relatively fit, this will be an easy hike, but for others this will be a moderate, to even difficult hike for someone with mobility issues. I recommend trek poles for anyone with mobility issues or if you are new to hiking. When there are leaves on the trees the trail is mostly shaded, with some short sections in full-sun at mid-day. There's a single pit toilet at the trailhead where you park. We recently took a friend with some mobility issues, but they wanted a challenge & a workout, and while it was difficult for them, they said it was absolutely worth the hike. read more

I love this waterfall. It is in my top ten list that is definitely for sure. About three Miles of a hike but so rewarding at the end. I like to bring a drink and enjoy it with a sandwich because the view of the waterfall is just magical. Please take away all your trash and leave nothing but footsteps. read more

Wow! Now, I only started my review like that because two of the three previous reviews started with the same word, and I don't think I can improve on it. This hike has one of the biggest wow moments I've yet experienced here in the Pacific Northwest. And considering it's actually a quite easy hike, there's simply no good reason that you haven't done it yet. Don't bother with the upper falls hike. The view from the lower falls is actually much better. I don't want to give too much away, but the final turn of this hike will leave your jaw on the floor. An early afternoon arrival will guarantee you the best photo-op in the gorge. Bring a camera and bring a friend to take all the amateur modeling shots your beautiful heart might desire. Trust me, you're gonna look good. It's also a nice place to plan a picnic lunch or do whatever else you crazy kids might want to do in the woods. The inclines are pretty mild, there are some cliffs that shouldn't be a problem if you have basic motor skills, and there are plenty of streams and smaller falls to keep you entertained along the way to the grand finale. One note: if you go during the off season, you'll have to park pretty far from the trailhead. How far? Your walk to the trailhead will be longer than the actual hike itself. It's still not bad, and it's still totally worth it. But I can only imagine that it's even better during the summer. When you aren't walking almost 2 miles each way to simply get to the trail. read more

Who would've known the good folks of Carson, Washington were roosting almost right below one of the Northwest's most beautiful waterfalls? Maybe they know, thus explaining the rampant "No Trespassing" signs scattered about the rural community. If it was at once a sacred secret, that status has long been lost to the "ooh"ing and "ahh"ing of local city folk that make the one and a half hour trek from Portland out to the Bridge of the Gods, and beyond. The drive is a snap, so long as you have some good music to keep you company and a keen eye for dodging suicidal chipmunks. I have to give Skamania County props for having forest service roads fairly well maintained and even more beautifully sign-posted. A good sign is sometimes hard to find, especially in a situation where you really could use one... Once out of the car, the 1.7 mile rock-and-dirt trek to the waterfalls is just about perfect. Hemlocks, Spruces, and Cedars commandeer the 2nd growth and old growth forest, while various ferns, berry bushes, wild grasses, and mosses keep good company to the royal trees. About a quarter mile into the hike, the immensely powerful sound of the river begins to soar into the ear canals. There are fallen trees strewn across the fairly mellow river and the dampened red earth all the way along the hike. Many old growth wonders arise, including gigantic geriatric fallen conifers, exposing impressive root systems; massive rock walls with moss so abundant and bright green, it nearly appears ectoplasmic; and a plethora of flora that ranges from tropical to vines to striking flowers. A small rocky pond has to be crossed along the trail to reach the destination: two majestic waterfalls, funneling endless roaring white bubbling streams of water over their ledges and into the river a couple hundred feet below. There are many damp boulders for humans, of all ages and from all regions, to lean upon and ponder the wonders of this forested kingdom. I can see why the Bridge of the Gods would be named as much, because this would be the sort of place where holiness and grandiose beauty reside in an enchanted mossy kingdom. read more

Falls Creek Falls is my absolutely favorite waterfall. A nice, easy hike and when you come around the corner and catch your first glimpse of the falls, it's just magical. You can keep your hike at easy level by going to falls and back. If you want more of a challenge, there's a connecting trail that takes you to the top of the falls. I took this route once and was a bit disappointed by the view from the top. But maybe I did something wrong. It was quite steep. The advantage is that you have almost complete solitude from the majority of the hikers who go to the falls and back. This trail is also listed as a loop trail. I took the return loop once and found that I prefer in and out on the same trail along the water. read more

A bit of a journey to get there since the gravel road has lots of pot holes, but glad we were up to the adventure from Portland (beautiful drive coming from the Washington side too). Definitely worth checking out. The Falls wear beautiful and there's plenty of places to sit and eat your lunch on the rocks while watching it! Wow! A lovely jaunt from our base at the Bonneville Hot Springs Resort, and an easy climb to one of the most beautiful sights to be seen. Pass the Carson Fish Hatchery, take the right to stay on River Wind Road, and the look on the right for the Falls Creek trail 152 sign. The gravel road will take you to the circular parking lot, and the trail is well marked after that. Don't get fooled - you'll come upon a smaller, but still impressive waterfall, and may think that's the end. Walk another 10 minutes and you'll be well rewarded for your efforts! A sight to behold, with an excellent flat rock area, perfect for a picnic. read more

One of my favorite hikes in WA. As others have said, if you go during off season you will have a good 2+ mile hike to get to the trailhead (the hike it's self is about 1.5-2 miles one way). Fairly easy hike with a BIG payoff. If you're feeling adventurous you can sneak off the trail right before the end and get down to the river before the falls, makes for awesome shots! Or, you can scale the left hand side and make your way to the top of each tier of the waterfall (there is 3, each smaller than the last). There is an impressive tree-root ladder that is not for the faint of heart if you choose to do this. You can also take the upper falls path and bypass this, but where's the fun in that? Oh, and the trail is pet-friendly!! read more

what a gorgeous trail. you hike along a cascading river for about 4 miles and then reach a beautiful waterfall. It's also dog and kid friendly. The uphill wasn't too strenuous. even my out of shape butt was able to keep up with my husband who is in much better shape than I. You have the option to continue upward, but we chose to turn around because it gets much steeper after the waterfall. read more
