Mark matched us perfectly with Adam and Alicia made sure that we knew where we had to be and how to connect with Adam. Adam is a phenomenal guide. He understood that this was a big day for my wife, her first SOCKEYE fishing experience. We found our spot in a few minutes and quickly learned to the fine art of "flossing". 60 minutes later we had bagged out, three beautiful SOCKEYE each. Heading home for a large Fish Smoke with friends and family. If you are targeting TROUT or SOCKEYE, ask for Adam. He knows the environment intimately, was absolutely superb when it came to working with my wife and had her casting like a 40 year veteran in literally, no time at all. I love his coaching style and how super supportive he continued to be, through our whole fishing trip. On top of that, Adam is one of those fun people you would like too just hangout with. KING SALMON Fishing With Fishology and Chase We were scheduled to to go Halibut fishing. The weather turned and that was the end of that. Mark and Alicia jumped into high gear and got us booked with Chase for a KING SALMON guided experience. We had so many questions and every one went out of their way to set us up for success. Communication is always top notch with this crew. Highly responsive, quick to tackle anything that may come up. Casey is one of the hardest working guides I have ever met. He pushed us into the best fishing holes and worked the ores to capitalize on the best spots, in the best holes. He constantly rowed, tended lines, swapped out fresh bait, coached and taught us all about the Kasiloff river and their residents, the gorgeous KING SALMON. The KINGS are diminishing at an alarming rate and all the guides work very hard to preserve these fine fish for generations to come. We caught 3 nice KINGS and two HUGE SOCKEYES. Whatever we were not allowed keep, Chase made sure went back to the river with as little handling and as much care as possible. It makes me so happy to know that there are people like Chase out there, providing incredible experiences yet working that hard to preserve these experiences for future generations. KING SALMON Fishing is a great adventure and I highly, highly recommend the Chase Guided King Salmon adventure. Simply outstanding. Another flawless event presented by Mark, Alicia and Chase. Dan and I fell in love with Alaska back in 2016 when we went on our first Alaskan cruise. The…read morefollowing year, we did a cruise tour and realized that Alaska has more to offer than just the cruise. So, we always discussed since then to plan an Alaskan vacation that was more land than a cruise. However, the pandemic happened and our vacation plans were on the shelf until this year. We are not avid fishermen. I haven't touched a pole since I was a child but we decided to book a 5 day fishing package with Kenai Riverbend Resort that's located in Soldotna, Alaska. Once I booked with them and they received our payment, they emailed our confirmation as well as travel information, packing instructions and obtaining fishing licenses. Best.DECISION.ever We flew into Anchorage and decided to rent a car to take the scenic drive to Soldotna (roughly 3 hours). The resort is located by the Kenai River and it has been in business for 40+ years by the Cho family. The history of how this business came into fruition is amazing and every American dream for anyone who comes to America. They have a lot of returning visitors. One man shared he's been vacationing at Kenai Riverbend Resort for 20+ years! Talk about great customer service when you hear stories like this. At the resort, you can either rent an RV space, lodge (2 or less) or cabin (4 or more). If you don't have fishing gear, they have the necessary gear to make your fishing excursions successful. Their guides are knowledgeable, friendly and helpful and have been with the company for years. Dan and I were upgraded to a cabin next to the river and it was just beautiful. This is glamping at its finest. The cabin had a fridge, microwave, sink, cookware, dishes, hot plate and a gas grill. Dan and I agreed that next time we are here, we are buying a week's worth of groceries instead of dining out. We had 2 halibut fishing excursions at Cook Inlet and Homer as well as 2 silver salmon excursions on the river. Dan and I came prepared with our seabands and motion sickness medication. Our first day on halibut fishing, the guides (Christian and Mason) were super helpful and the remaining group were fun (I was the only female and they all cheered when I got the first catch of the day!). We forgoed the second day of halibut fishing to rest and explore instead. Our third day was an afternoon of silver salmon fishing on the river. While the current flowed fast, the river was smooth. Our guide, Jeremy was helpful and fun as well while we fished. Our fourth day was a morning of silver salmon fishing on the river, which went by quickly because we all caught the max number of salmon (3 per person) for the day. It was cold, rainy and fun! If you're wondering about the fish we caught, the resort will clean, filet, vacuum seal your fish and freeze it all until you check out. You can either have it mailed via FedEx or have them box it for you to travel with. Note: Anchorage International Airport has a storage freezer for your fish if you're planning to stay overnight in Anchorage. ***If you're traveling through Seattle from Anchorage and will be staying overnight...contact your hotel to see if they'll store it in their freezer as the SmartCarte baggage storage does not open until 8am at SeaTac. We took home 70+ lbs of fish. The resort and surrounding area was peaceful, serene and breathtaking. Alaska always brings things back into perspective about life. Keep it simple. Are we returning? I knew he would never do it for himself and if we didn't do it soon, we may never actually get to it. There are a lot of choices out there. After narrowing it down to three, I called and left voicemail's asking for more info. Not only was Jimmie Jack's the first to call back, but they actually sounded like they cared. I talked to Kevin and asked about every cliched question I could think of. He took the time to walk me through everything and made sure I knew this was the right fit. The next day I booked the "Signature Seven" package and the excitement started to grow. Without getting in to a ridiculous amount of detail, I just want to put in emphasis on how great this place is. Everything was taken care of for us. We were booked on all the right types of trips. Directions to boats were given. The staff [EVERYONE!] was incredible and friendly in the most genuine of ways. From Captain Charlie and Cooper, making sure we got to the right spots to get my Dad a 60# Halibut, Captain Dan taking the time to teach me proper technique to catch more fish than anyone else on the boat out in Homer, Jo and Scott taking the time to work through rain and cold to try and get us our King Salmon limits, and last, but not least, Tony literally getting hooked in the face by some random dude in our group, but keeping a positive attitude and teaching us all how to slay the Sockeye. They were all total badasses! They worked hard to make sure we had the best time out on the water we could have and on a trip like this, with the smiles and memories we got to carry home with us, let alone like 300# of fish, they deserve more praise than I could ever give them. Finally, deserving her own special paragraph, there was Phyllis. The "Lodge Mama," keeping us well fed and caffeinated every morning, Phyllis was the kind of person that immediately makes an impact on you and is someone you know you are going to miss before you even leave. She'd greet you with a smile and a hug in the morning and she went above and beyond what her position called for to make sure you knew you were making a genuine connection with someone that really cared about your well-being and wanted to know the real you. She described our encounters as divine intervention, and while some may scoff at such a fleeting moment, I truly feel blessed to have had her in my life for the 7 days. Crazy as it may be to believe, even after only a week, it was hard to say goodbye. She made this trip more special by just being herself and if you are lucky enough to ever meet her, cherish that moment. It will not be one you soon forget or ever take for granted. Are there cheaper trips out there? Of course there are. Could you arrange all the trips we went out on, on your own? Undoubtedly. Could you find your own lodging? Definitely. Should you though? No way. If you are going up North for your first time and you want all the little things worked out for you in the most streamlined and convenient way possible, this is the place to be.
