    Sassy and friendly foal

WOW. River's Bend Ranch provided me and boyfriend an experience we unanimously considered to be few and far between. The scenic site was home to the meditative retreat we didn't know we needed. After looking to schedule a horseback trail ride through Groupon, we decided it best to stay overnight in the area. Caroline, I believe her name, at front desk reception scheduled us last minute for a two night stay in the Wild West Cabin on the property. The cabin was spotless upon arrival. The horseback ride was tranquil and we enjoyed seeing the animals (pig, goat, horses) who were all very friendly. The foal was also quite sassy and friendly with much personality. River's Bend Ranch is located about 20 minutes from Massanutten and about 35 minutes from James Madison University. If you're looking to stay in the area, River's Bend Ranch is better than any airbnb or hotel by far. Visit Dates: 9/21-23/19

We went here for my daughter's birthday. She loves horseback riding and we were greeted with a friendly smile. The staff was courteous and very good with young children. My niece was a little nervous at first but they give you time to get to know the horses and get comfortable. The trail was ideal for young kids but if you want to go fast you would have to get a private lesson. We went at a slow and steady pace. Saw a bunch of the deer along the way and had a great time. Would highly recommend if you're looking for a great bonding moment with your kids.

We are on a family vacation and looking for outdoor activities to do, being in Virginia horse riding came in mind. River's Bend Ranch gave a great experience to our group! We had 4 children and 3 adults. The 2 guilds worked well with the kids who where a little nervous at first. The trail ride was nice it was about an hour long, it took you down by the Shenandoah River, though the woods and up and down the path. So it's not just one level a nice ride. I would recommend it for beginners, experience riders they also offer private rides. In all it was a great morning and I would do it again.

My husband surprised me with date here to go horseback riding and it was such a delight! My husband and I were the only ones on the tour and the guide made great conversation. The horses were very friendly and so gorgeous! The trail goes by a river and has a beautiful view. We will definitely be back in the future and I definitely recommend coming here! !

Connect with nature at the Ranch!

I visited the Ranch for a yoga retreat and had a wonderful experience! The entire group stayed in the Lodge House which had plenty of rooms and most rooms had connecting bathrooms, which was great privacy. The house was very clean and our group enjoyed both the top and bottom porches for lounging around and watching the sunrise and set! I also went on a horseback trail ride which was conducted by 2 great staff members at the Ranch that did a fantastic job of managing the horses on the trail even when a few got unruly :) For the cost of $35 for the horse back riding experience was great and I would recommend it, especially in the Fall. I should also note here that our house and a fabulous hot tub outside that was spectacular for relaxing and taking the night sky in. I look forward to coming back to the Ranch as it offers the perfect remote getaway from the city!

We stayed in one of the cabins for a few nights and WOW - what a relaxing and beautiful place! The cabin was comfortable, spotless, and chock-full of amenities (full kitchen, massive jacuzzi, and a porch with a view of the sunrise and the ranch's rolling hills). We made full use of the propane grill, as well as the firepit behind the cabin each night (which came fully stocked with weeks' worth of firewood), took a relaxing trail ride on horses with Cassie, and, most importantly soaked in the peace and quiet the entire time. A big thanks to the staff for being so welcoming and accommodating, and we are looking forward to coming back.

This was our first visit, and I would go back in a heartbeat! We stayed in the Cowboy Cabin. It has everything you need! Clean, and with great views. Fire pit out back w/picnic tables. The horseback ride through the trees and along the river was fun. The ladies who led the ride were great. Some of the friendliest customer service around!

What a great place!!! The staff was very friendly. The cabin was so clean, updated, and roomy. This was a last minute check in, after hours, and the staff was happy to accommodate us. The view is beautiful. This ranch is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy yourself. We also did a trail ride, the girls that took us out were friendly & professional. This a great place to connect with nature in a modern cabin with all the necessities, even a Jacuzzi tub. We will definitely be back for a longer stay. A huge thank you to the employees for making our stay great!!

Came here for a one night stay on a whim and I'm so glad we found this gem! We stayed in one of the one-bedroom cabins and there was plenty of room and an amazing Jacuzzi tub. Guest service was wonderful and the place was very clean. I loved being away from the noise and under the stars with the amazing mountain view. Utensils and cookware is provided and there's a grill and fire pit available. There is an outdoor hot tub in the common area, but we didn't use it because we'd have to drive down. We did a ride on the horses in the morning, the scenery was gorgeous and we rode alongside the river. I highly recommend and hope to make my way back some day to see the fall foliage.

Found this place on Groupon for a trail ride. Wonderful experience. The staff was warm and welcoming and the horses were well trained. The property was beautiful and riding along the river was awesome. Highly recommend for a weekend getaway or a day trip.

The horses were gentle, well cared for, and perfectly matched to Us. Our guide, Ella, was absolutely incredible. Along the trail, we stopped to watch several deer, which was such a peaceful and magical moment. Then came the biggest surprise--we arrived at a beautifully decorated table that had been set up for our engagement. It was absolutely perfect, and everything was arranged so thoughtfully. It couldn't have been a more romantic setting to propose. A huge thank you to Lisa and her Team for helping make our engagement so memorable. Her kindness, attention to detail, and genuine excitement for us made the day even more special. We'll cherish these memories forever and highly recommend this experience to anyone looking for an unforgettable adventure.

The views were definitely epic, but they came with a couple of big hurdles…read more The first was that when I booked online there wasn't any way to put the ages of kids or expertise level of the people riding. It's fine, but they claim that you don't need any experience. When we showed up, our guide saw us waiting outside of the car and he told us to sign in. After filling the paperwork he came out and said he didn't know that there were kids riding on their own. (I had my 11 and 9 year old riding by themselves). He seems like a very nice guy, but the whole time he was complaining that he already dealt with kids that morning and the slow horses had been used so he didn't have slow horses for us to put the kids on. The second hurdle was that his horse was not listening, I think he might've been a young horse that wasn't as broken-in as his usual horse. He said his horse was hurt, so he couldn't use it and he had to ride a horse that was "nuts." There were horses that were in the back that he had swapped so I don't know why he couldn't switch his horse to different one. He kept having to smack him and pull the reins to try to get him to keep going on the trail because he wasn't listening. This wouldn't have been a huge issue, but he insisted in holding a lead to lead my daughter's horse since she was riding on her own. (he suggested my son go ride with my husband doubled up) His horse kept moving abruptly, and I felt like it was more of a safety issue for my daughter to be near his horse so I asked him to let go of the lead, and have her ride by herself without him pulling the horse. She seemed to do much better without him holding it because, thankfully, her horse (Diamond) was cooperative and chill. The whole time he seemed very frazzled and worried. Although it is understandable for him to want us to have a good experience with the horses and for everyone's safety, I think that him having a different horse and there being better communication when booking a riding session would've made for a much better experience. The whole time we pretty much felt like a nuisance, and I felt sorry for him. He suggested that we get a partial refund because our experience wasn't as great as it should've been since we didn't have the correct horses to have a smooth ride. When I communicated with the owner, they just said thank you for letting them know and they didn't offer any sort of compensation or refund. In future, if we were to do this experience again, it would probably have to be with a different guide, but I don't think that I would come back to this Ranch I would try somewhere else. On a positive note, the views were amazing, the horses that we had were pretty chill and kept trying to eat, but other than that they didn't cause trouble. They had helmets for us if we needed them and the guide was upset, but he was apologetic the whole time. The guide did a great job at posing the horses for our family picture.

Later on we had a trail ride on horseback with Justin. He made sure to pair each rider with an appropriate horse based on their skill and experience level. The views were absolutely stunning, and the ranch definitely lives up to its name. We enjoyed every second of our stay and did not want to leave. I hope to return sooner rather than later.

A group of 16 of us booked for the weekend and I honestly can't think of enough great things to say. Seriously, everything about this place was AMAZING! I organized the trip, so I got to work with one of the owners, Jesse, to get everything set up. He was helpful, responsive, accommodating, and really kind. I organize a lot for my friends and myself, and this was one of the easiest. Upon arrival we were checked in by the other owner, Gary, who immediately made us feel like we were at home. He gave us a wonderful tour of the property and told us everything we needed to know for a wonderful stay. This property is nestled in the hills of WV and the views are STUNNING! Every space and room is beautifully appointed, really leaning into the upscale rustic vibe you'd expect in a mountain retreat. So many beautiful nooks and crannies to sit and read or play games or just nap. The pool and hot tub are gorgeous and Logan at the pool bar will take amazing care of you! They provide a complimentary breakfast of freshly cooked eggs, meats, and biscuits/scones. The lunch and dinner menus are varied and everything we had was delicious. Our servers, Rain (spelling ??) and Angie were stellar and the ambience was just perfect. Every single one of us left feeling refreshed and we were all sad to leave.
