The park itself is really small, more of a neighborhood pocket park than a sprawling city green space. The playstructures were in great shape, there was a lovely pond with ducks and a small walking trail around the perimeter. Mature trees provide shade and there was even a lovely little gazebo for that extra dash of small-town, Americana charm. The kids played, we stretched our legs and everyone was ready for the road.

We met promptly at 1pm and hiked the prk for 2 miles, the park ranger was very knowledgeable and led us on a wonderful trek. There are 3 ponds for boating or fishing, I wouldnt swim in lakes due to alligators and snakes... I would most def go back and use the facility for hiking, fishing, cabins, or camping. The park was clean and well kept, free entry but it is always kind to leave a donation! Oh almost forgort there is a natural spring fountain that you can drink from! Great way to start the N Year '18, this will be a Yrly trek for us!!

On the south perimeter of the Lowcountry Regional Airport, this small park has some benches and the…read moreoriginal marker light from when this field was much smaller and a high-altitude picture (no satellites back then) of the vicinity. There is also a marker pointing out the early history of the area and some more recent activities. The marker reads on the front, "Anderson Field. This airfield, the first in Colleton County, was built and dedicated in 1933 on 60 acres leased to the town of Walterboro by the estate of C. C. Anderson, for whom it was named. By 1937 the town purchased the field and its 3 unpaved landing strips. Local, state, and federal sources combined to fund a large hangar and paved runways by 1941. The U.S. Army Air Corps leased the field from the town in early 1942 and purchased an additional 3,712 acres to create a new Walterboro Army Air Field." On the reverse, "Walterboro Army Air Field. The Walterboro Army Air Field, opened in August 1942, was a sub-base of the Columbia Army Air Base and the largest sub-base in the 3rd Air Force. It served as a final training base for pilots prior to overseas duty and housed a military population of as many as 6,000 as well as hundreds of German POWs. When the base closed after the war the field was deeded back to Walterboro and Colleton County. Erected by the Walterboro/Colleton County Airport Commission & the Colleton County Historical and Preservation Society, 1997." The Tuskeegee Airman Memorial is separate and nearby. This is my second time to Bangs Paradise Valley Hunt Club this year. My first impression was pretty…read moreeye opening inside this big lodge covered in trophy bucks from floor to ceiling all around, a pool and ping pong table, and then dinner seating off to one corner. The accomodations, which runs off the lodge were very comfortable with a true 'just like home" feel. All meals are included and the food they cook is amazing food that is just like your Mama used to cook. I could go on about the food and deserts...yummy. Tom Collins overseas everything...and closely. His management of his many hunt areas is impeccable, from the way he drops people off to their stands, to picking them up, to scent and sound. He is a good man who really cares about his guests, and cares that they have a successful experience while there. Everyone I met on both my trips are those who keep coming back (and it is easy to understand why). This last time I only killed a 4 pt, but I did have the chance to kill a bunch of does. I highly recommend this place with 5 1/2 stars!!

We just got back from a canoe trip that included spending the night in the large treehouse. We had…read morean amazing time. Chris, the owner is an approachable guy with energy and excitement. We somehow forgot to bring water with us for our trip and he quickly offered to let us use his 5 gallon water jug (for no cost and he filled it for us). Booking was easy , directions and details were clear. Paddle was somewhat easy and just long enough to enjoy without getting overly tired. This is a unique experience that I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a river, canoe and nature. Seems to stay booked pretty solid during the warm months so plan with plenty of time.

What a hidden gem in South Carolina. We had a wonderful weekend away to relax and unwind in one of…read moretheir three treehouses. Day 1 was about a twelve mile canoe trip (4-5 hours on the water) and day 2 was 10 miles (about 3-4 hours)- they provided maps of the river and mile markers posted on bird feeders along the route. The treehouses are extremely well maintained, sturdy, and clean. They provided cookware (pots, pans, utensils, etc.), as well as indoor and outdoor grills, a french press for coffee, soap, cookie spray, matches, board games, a hammock, and a lovely fire pit. Our treehouse slept 2, but there is a 3-4 person and a 6-8 (I think). Ours had one couch in the main room and an upper loft with a mattress and pillows (all extremely clean). Bring your own blankets or some sleeping bags, though. This is the last year under current management. The couple who currently own it built it all by hand and the love they put into it absolutely shows. They have confidence in the new owners taking over and we can't wait to see what the new people do with it going forward. If I could give them 6 stars, I would, but 5 will have to do. This is a treasure of South Carolina and you need to check it out immediately (but maybe keep it a Spring and Fall activity- there's no A/C).

We figured a nice get-away will keep him from continuing his projects and allow him time to heal. This is a beautiful, but small campground with a creek running nearby. Despite what others have said, we have not seen any gators. ( At home we have gators living down the street.). This has been a beautiful respite for us, getting away from the decisions and craziness, but not being far from home. The Park Ranger is a very kind and friendly man. He will help you with any questions or issues you may have, with his gorgeous smile on his face. We will be back again gladly, anytime.

We came to Colleton State Park as Snowbirders from northern NY. We arrived on November 16th and…read morewill be here until December 31. We couldn't ask for a nicer or better run campground. The camp host, David, and his wife, Misty, are just amazing. The Rangers are very helpful as well. The campground is right on the Edisto River. You can rent canoes directly across the river or bring your own. It's a wonderful flat water canoe or kayak paddle. The sites here are very nice with a fair amount of space between them. The bathrooms are fairly old, but always immaculate. The showers are incredible for a campground. The water is always as hot as you want, and it can be run for as long as you like. I don't think anyone could ever go wrong staying here. Of course, I don't know what it's like in the Summer - probably a lot more crowded with families. Right now it's incredibly peaceful.
